Yep, especially retail. Worked for a videogame retailer called Gamers for 3 years, and the VP liked to routinely send out emails reminding people "everyone is replaceable." When their chain pulled out of Iowa, the VP paid to run an article in most widely distributed paper to complain and say "there are no good workers in Iowa." When I quit as an assistant manager, I left to make nearly double as an autoparts delivery driver. And about a year after that, like he'd done with other locations, walked into my old store, fired everyone on the spot, closed it up, and hired the most random people. That was nearly 20 years ago and I still have old customers recognize me from time to time wanting to talk about how the place went downhill.

I am pro-increase salary. Really, I am. However, this is the first time I heard of this "seniority rights". For a new employee, this really feels unfair and ironically, sounds like favoritism. So, how can the employer attract new people if they are already treated unfairly? If it is about older people doing more physical jobs, then fight for less quota or less physical jobs for older people without being scared of getting fired. I hope you get what you are fighting for or at least come up with a solution that is agreeable to both parties. Keep it up!!!

As a Swede, I have a positive view of IKEA. But it saddens me to hear of these unfair working conditions for IKEA employees. Unfortunately, companies often will not improve workers' wages and working conditions on their own. This is why unions are vital in the workplace. As an example 68%!!!! of all workers in Sweden are union members. The result of that is that it is more difficult for companies to decline the demands made by the unions. So keep up the hard fight!

We were hazmat endorsed hauling chemicals, poisons, flammables, explosives and radioactive materials and had a security clearance that required armed unmarked cars to travel in our vacinity. Our dispatcher told us the customer required us BY OUR Names to haul their loads. We both retired as two million mile accident free drivers EACH. Why did we retire? I'm so glad you asked!! A raise was announced. But later found out it was for EVERYONE under the million mile accident free drivers each. So, the 1, 2, 3, 4 and the one 5 million milers were not included in the raise. The heartbreak was devastating. We asked for a load into the closest to our home, rented a car on the way to the terminal, cleaned out our truck, handed in the keys without saying a word and quit. I saw within a week as a 20 year old that unions would be the death of companies like Caterpillar. I left after 10 years. Not because they were a bad company but because they had no chance against feather bedding union people...and I was going to have to manage them. One in 8 was a shop steward and did nothing but rile up the other 7. The rule book was thicker than the phone book for my town of over 100,000 people. On many occasions I had to have 5 or 6 union guys watching me work just in case I needed to have their little specialty do a piece of it... which I could easily do but was against the rules. True. That has been my experience in most jobs. "I paid my dues so I can slack off now". Frustrating. Can see this from both sides. The longer people stay in one job = fewer skill sets due to stagnation and lack of exposure to newer technology and different ways of working. You need a healthy ratio of longer-serving vs newer staff. I'm not a fan of 'one job for life' societies. Mix it up. Assign people jobs and train people in various industries (within reason). Why do people need to stay put all their lives? It's not healthy or productive to stay still.

So how can the people be earning a decent wage pay the price for the product the owners price gouge for?? American cost of living is really insane. A $29/hour job anywhere in the world you would be middle upper class. But Americans pay most of their wage in rent, mortgage, helthcare, tuition debt and sure, taxes. America collects 5 trillion dollars every year from taxes, is capable of affording a 100% free public high quality healthcare, but instead has the highest public spending on healthcare in the world and the general population still spends so much. The poor pays more taxes than the rich. A couple of public policies and proper regulations could make the life of the average American so much more satisfactory and fair.

@christopherbasham1551 I may have overstated this, but worth to add the poor loses purchasing power to a much higher degree when paying taxes, specially because most of poor people pay consumption taxes, which are effectively regressive. Ever since Ingvar Kamprad passed away, IKEA has just been getting worse and worse. My family shopped at IKEA in Borås, Sweden when I was a kid, and the quality was MUCH better then. Now even the old staples (like their Billy bookcases and Poäng chairs) are made from garbage materials with REALLY low quality hardware. I needed another bookcase, that's how I discovered that hardware that used to be metal is now made in plastic, and the shelves weigh a lot less than my old shelves. I have old Billy bookcases with shelves that have never sagged, these started sagging within a year. So, of course IKEA has to rob their employees blind. Their old faithful customers are fleeing by the numbers. IKEA will continue to make a profit for a few more years, just based on their hype. But I am happy to report that I am one of the rats who have left that sinking ship. 😂😂😂

I'm curious as to what Ikea is actually attempting to do. It sounds like the contract is being edited so that seniority no longer plays a factor in job status. So then, what does? Performance? The one guy at 1:47 says that if he "says something management doesn't like" there could now be ramifications. Well...that's the way EVERY non-union job works, bud. This is the biggest problem with unions...that seniority trumps everything, including performance. So if you're a low performer, you still make more than a high performer if you've been there longer. Ultimately, this removes any motivation to even be a high performer, and fills the company with employees who do just enough not to get fired. What company that needs to remain competitive wants that?

Well, let me understand what's going on... Why do companies hire employees? To do what they are told to do, right? So now a bunch of employees want to tell the company which jobs they like to do and how much they want? This is hilarious. How would you feel if you opened a plumbing company, hired plumbers and they suddenly told you that they all wanted to be managers and that plumbing was too hard and they would rather stay in an office and flip sheets of paper... If you don't like your job and it's a bad job, just leave. It's so easy. Go and take the better one available. So why are they still holding onto their 'terrible' positions? Well, one guy said he makes $29 per hour. That's not bad even by California standards. Around 5 grand per month.

I think union people everywhere should go out and start their own company and run it any way they want to.

Bet lots of these good folks were sadly duped into voting against their own best interests recently.

Can you investigate if food prices will go back down to pre COVID levels?
@biteofdog13 сағат бұрын
Currently there is a Kroger price gouging lawsuit.

Nothing is going to go back down in price. Now that Trump is going to be in office. His tarriffs are going to raise prices on almost everything. China has already cut back on American imports by as much as 50% and he isn't even in office yet.

They will not. Only way to combat rising prices is raising wages. The biggest nonsense of this election cycle was the idea of lowering prices of eggs. The solution is not deflation but raising wages. But people bought into the idea of lowering food prices.
