second best is pine tart liqueur... suitable in many foods (mainly fish) or itself
@Ucceah5 жыл бұрын
it's the liquorice itself, that makes the hangover that bad. or rather the contained glycyrrhizic acid causing additional electrolyte imbalance (the main cause of hangovers). i once got very hangover like effects from enjoying half a bag of tyrisk peber. woozy, mild headaches and just drained of energy. still love them, but i'll never hat that much again.

Salmiakki koskenkorva, Or as we call it "Salmari" is one of the best drinks EVER! How ever Salmiakki, Or salty liqorish is a taste that grows in to you. You have to "expose" yourself to it every couple times a week, and in couple months you dont hate it, and in couple more months you like it... or then you steill hate it... "Aquired taste" is apparently correct term in English. Personally, I love it, but I can understand that some just dont like it.

It's usually the first stronger drink Finnish youth tries out. Salmiakki (ammonium chloride) is an acquired taste, so most Finnish kids like it. After the first time you drink too much of it you don't want to do that again... like my husband, who wouldn't take that one shot for all the money in the world. I personally never did that as a teen, so I can still enjoy it if I would be so inclined. I prefer scotch to drink and my salmiakki as a candy, though.

Got a couple of bottles while in Vassa Finland at a liquer store. I asked the sales lady for something unique to Finland, she actually looked nervous selling it to me, lol. Liked it. The closest I can find locally in Israel are salty liquorice candy at Ikea.

Proper salmari isn't sold anymore(if ever) as it should be 50-60% or 110-120 proof minimum and made with Turkisk Peber candy. Koskenkorva isn't a good base for it simply because its a subpar vodka and too weak. Get high proof grain alcohol, like Everclear cut it with water to 140-160 add half a pound of the crushed candy to a pint of vodka, mix vigorously several minutes, the longer you let it dissolve the better. I usually let it "brew" for 3-7 days and I repeat the agitation daily. Straining the remaining candy (ideally only tiny amount should be left undissolved) is optional. PROTIP: NEVER SPILL THAT SHIT, IT WILL RUIN ANY TEXTILE LIKE NO OTHER.

There is not a single bar that doesn't sell "salmari" in Finland. However, you seem not to be aware of one crucial thing: only shitty bars serve that shitty pre made salmiakki koskenkorva. Any bar worth the name will make their own. It's much better than the bottled crap. However, I doubt this would change your perspective in the slightest, as better in this case just means more intense tasting. As you already probably know, it's made from a mix of turkish peber salmiakki candies and vodka. Similar things include laku (vodka and lakrisal drops) and fisu (vodka and fishermans friends cough drops). The last one is quite popular too.

You know Salmiakki Koskenkorva, or "salmari" (pronounced [salmari] with no intonations and a short a's), is still made and it is a huge thing. Definitely a an acquired taste like the shit you call budweiser. Nothing like jegermeister with salt, no herbs and shit. Just purest vodka and the chemical ammonium chloride. Btw, if a huge wiking gives you salmari, that should tell you something about the drinkers of salmari.
@grantizmirlian89797 жыл бұрын
Tony Nordström Swedish name and you say that it's just vodka and ammonium chloride?? It's vodka and Tyrkisk Peber... which is mostly licorice and a small amount of ammonium chloride.

they are still making SALMIAKKIKOSSU here in Finland, but different company makes it... I think. Best SALMIAKKIKOSSU can't buy from liquor store, you have to make it yourself. recipe is quite simple 1 bottle of Koskenkorva or any jother vodka and 1 bag of Tyrkisk Peber salty licorice candies mixed together and voila tasty dink is ready ;) it's one of the best drinks in the world!

The problem, why you didn't like this delicious liquor of ours, is that you haven't been introduced to salmiakki from early childhood! That terrible injustice is what the children of most countries outside of the Nordic countries suffer! I'f you'd been taught the joys of Salmiakki from a young age, as is proper, you'd realize what a beautifullly delicious liquor Salmiakki Koskenkorva is! 😁👍 Don't worry, we won't count it against you, you can't help your upbringing! 😋

I used to make this a lot myself from various salmiakki candy and different vodkas. Never really bought the ready made salmiakki, aside from bars. It's a bit dangerous, as it's so easy to drink. In the town where I lived for a while it was 1€/beer and 1€/shot of salmiakki koskenkorva.

@grantizmirlian89797 жыл бұрын
Seriously, maybe you should try the candy first. In fact, the right path to licorice with ammonium chloride (a.k.a smelling salts) is to start with aakoset original. After a bag or so of that them your ready to try Turkisk Peber...which is basically the additive to the booze which is koskenkorva vodka, which, in turn, is essentially Finlandia Vodka...(heard of it?), minus some sugar... so yeah, ... good stuff. Best as a shot of snaps followed by your favorite beer
@grantizmirlian89797 жыл бұрын
And jaegermeister tastes like fckn caugh syrup...c'mon you know it's true. As a snaps you know salmiakki koskenkorva is far superior... like comparing filet Mignon with cheeseburgers at MacDonalds

Sorry my friend but you say Koskonkorva so knife butherly way XD wrong accent totally but i understand you it is hard to say it right and only native Finns can say it correctly :) and you are correct Koskenkorva brand is only finnish to sell not out of country or least not that field picture bottle thats origin Finnish vodka and law says it cannot sell legally outside of finland so thats why you dont see it in USA/ any american state! You have to go Finland if wanna get it ONLY ALKO sells it! it goes to 30-32-40-60-80% alcohol strong but need to be age 21 minium to buy it. Currrent law real vodka is 37,5% and lower is just strong wine
