Nice Vid, but to clear a few things up the main difference between .223 and 5.56 is the free bore or the jump to the rifling. The .223 has .025" freebore length, where the 5.56 has .050" freebore length. The rest of the dimensions on the case are negligible. The difference in pressures ( the .223 max pressure being 55,000 where the 5.56 being 62,000 ) is due to where the civilian market tests for case pressures vs. where the military tests for case pressure. The civilian market tests towards the back of the round where as the military test at the top of the round. If both were tested in the same spot the pressures would be close.

BCA became the opportunists during this scare. All of the products I was getting for less than $200 is now $350 range, it's pretty ridiculous. From a business standpoint they could care less b/c they will sell it to someone. Once things calm down in probably 6-9mo, I won't be a customer unless prices calm down as well.

Yes I'm the guy that bit that extra dollar bullet just the other day . I always build my own ARs but I couldn't find parts and my gf didn't own an AR yet so I bought her the BCA 10.5 556 pistol . It was $200 more than it used to be . I'll gradually upgrade hers part by part but at least she has a platform to work and learn from now as my builds are much to heavy for her to operate effectively.

Finally shot mine yesterday. Shot 5.56 and .223. A few jams with the first couple of mags but once the oil got down everywhere it needs to be, no issues at all. The upper i trued and bedded the bca barrel in and lapped and polished the barrel. This thing is a shooter! I get hits at 600-800 yards on steel with m193 ammo. Are you saying that you used 556-223 to reach that far? damn I didn’t know It was able to do that. How far out do you think an 11 1/2 inch barrel in the same caliber and an A.R. pistol frame could reach (with an accurate shooter oviosly)

@@erikmckaygunsmithing6470 are you saying that I can make a 7 1/2 inch barrel length chambered in 556 and it’ll actually be usable? I guess it’s a mess that you need to go to 300 blackout to go that small then ? I no u will spit more fire but still…. I really wanna make a 7.5 inch build but dreading the prices of 300 wich to be honest isn’t that much worse than 223 in some cases…. What are your thoughts on this since you obviously own and have shot the ar pistol platform in 556/223 with that small of a barrel (7.5)
@erikmckaygunsmithing6470
@erikmckaygunsmithing6470 3 жыл бұрын
@@mrgrump2534 actually the blackout is more suited for this than the 556 becuse of the faster burning powder rate is more efficient in shorter barrels were as the 556 is med burning powder rate and suffer greater velocity loss on short barrels. The 300 blackout only needs 9" of barrel yo fully burn its powder charge so a 10- 14" will work great for blackout. And 300 yds will be about your working limit maybe 400 but depends on what your doing with it. But yeah pistols do better than most people think. I never considered one till i built one for a friend and took it out to test it. After seing how handy it was in small area and i could still engage 300yd targets. So it'll do what my carbine will do in a smaller package and make a good trick gun

Even my 800 dollar shielen 338 edge. Ive had guys tell me dont buy bca barrels they're not very good! Lol but guys always are impressed with how my Ar's are so accurate. I love telling them they just got out shot by the very thing you were running down. The 2 i have are very close to my custom rem 700's i built (im a m gunsmith) the bolt guns do hold a better group of coarse but by god the Ar's aint very far off at 100yds Cant wait to see hiw the grendel performs

🤦🏼‍♂️ 5.56 and .223 are identical case dimensions. Both headspace on the shoulder. 5.56 has a longer throat and allows for longer bullets. And yes, 5.56 can be loaded to higher than SAAMI pressures than .223 book specs. Wylde chambers share the same case dimensions as .223/5.56. The gas tube pressure comment is just ignorant. I expect a manufacturer to represent their products with people with real knowledge. This fellow is full of facts, they’re just mostly wrong.

The case neck is the difference, the 5.56 mm NATO neck is slightly longer which can increase the pressure when fired in a .223 chamber which has the shorter neck length. It's Not Rocket Scientry.

Did a great job of explaining that because a lot of people don't understand that and it's good that you did that cuz a lot of people try to keep people from getting confused and the new people coming up don't understand that... but for me I've never had a problem with either one even the one I bought from you that 223 I bought from you that offer was excellent so there's no difference in either one I've seen either way it works just fine and I don't know why people making a big deal now if you just get one that's made by inferior manufacturer of course you're going to have a problem.. the everything I bought from Bear Creek Arsenal is outstanding!!!!! If you don't believe it I'll send you a video if you want one.... I did one with a 762 by 39 upper that I bought from Bear Creek and a hundred yards I put two of them side-by-side in the bullseye just to let you know just how good your uppers are it really comes down to the shooter at that point....

I had issue after issue with that firearm and after I sold it I found out the wrong ammo was the reason for my issues.

The .223 Wylde rifle has identical chamber angling as a 5.56×45 rifle but also brings a .2240 freebore diameter. It also has tighter freebore size in a .223 Wylde rifle which allows you to shoot .223 ammo with relatively strong accuracy from it than a 5.56×45 rifle. BASICALLY, it's more accurate than a rifle chambered in 5.56. I can agree with the accuracy claims, too! 😉

556 in a 223 has nothing to do with the gas system or gas tube. It's the chamber pressure and case pressure. 556 cases have a longer throat and a thicker wall to accommodate the extra pressure. Kind of scary that a Firearms manufacturer can't explain the difference properly

If you have an interest in US Service Rifle Competition then a .223 Match or Wylde Chamber notion wiil promote accuracy from .223 or 5.56 Match Grade Ammunition. For ALL others the 5.56 NATO Chambered rack grade M16A4 or M4 will deliver sub MOA from Mk262 if the shooter has had some marksmanship training. The USAMU has proven this.

I'm not a reloader so I'm only going on what I've read. You say a 223 in a 556 chamber will have lateral slop. I am under the impression that external dimensions are the same in both roundswith the exception of 556 bullet protrudes slightly further out of the case of the 556. Thus rifling on the 556 starts slightly further than the 223. When putting a 556 in a 223 chamber/barrel where the rifling starts at a shorter distance, the 556 engages the rifling on chambering, thus not allowing bullet momentum before before engaging the rifling and compounding the pressure increase. Is this not correct?

I edited my very lengthy and overly antagonistic response... The following item is overpriced. You don't agree. We can leave it at that. www.bearcreekarsenal.com/223-wylde-24-black-nitride-straight-fluted-heavy-barrel-1-8-twist-rifle-length-gas-system-15-mlok-split-rail-side-charging-upper

@@CredibleHulk10 , I saw your earlier reply. No hard feelings either way. I think I understand your point, but the rules of free market dictate that an object is worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay for it. Also, I don't think it's fair to dismiss the effect of the "pandemic" out of hand - the suppliers are under pressure, the supplies are short, the need to protect workers is real, ..etc. I asked for an example of an overpriced item so I could better understand you. I find BCA prices rather competitive. I tried pricing the parts of a comparable build - the cost came up very close to BCA price. But if you feel it is overpriced - it is overpriced. PSA prices are simular.

I don't believe the 5.56 has more powder. I think the .223 has slightly greater case capacity. 5.56 has thicker case walls, ergo the greater pressure.

Flatter more accurate shots hands down. Perfection at its best.

It seems that every weapon in your introduction is throwing the spent cases forward towards the operator's two o'clock position. This type of ejection is indicative of an over gassed gun that is putting extreme pressure on the bolt carrier group.
@Bear_Creek_Arsenal
@Bear_Creek_Arsenal 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ron, I appreciate your concern, however, after examining the clips you mentioned I believe they are ejecting normally. The camera position is just making it appear abnormal (the camera man is not standing straight across from the shooter but rather in front of him or behind him depending on the clip)

You realize over gassing is an issue for piston driven systems and suppressors. BCA uses direct impingement on their uppers. He literally stated he only had .223 in house because of the ammo shortage, which is anemic compared to 5.56.

Ok BCA, legitimate question here...why are nearly all of the 5.56 and .223 twist rates manufactured by BCA 1:8 in the 16-18 inch barrels? what about making some that are 1:7? I would like to hear your position on selecting the 1:8 twist and mass producing it over the 1:7 twist.
@Bear_Creek_Arsenal
@Bear_Creek_Arsenal 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Russ, I don't know the exact reason, but I assume that it is because most 5.56 and .223 rounds are 55 grain which perform best with a 1:8 twist rate

I have BCA's 1st 7.62x39 upper. Its beat to hell, rusty and has been used in the rifle classes I teach since 2017. I have just retired this upper with over 32,000 rounds on it. The rifling was about gone which I would expect from about any barrel. The upper still hit a man size target out to 150 meters. The only issues I had were extractor break at 900 rounds, bca sent a new extractor within 3 days. Extractor break at 2100 rounds, again BCA replaced the extractor, though I purchased a black rifle arms melonite one and it lasted until the upper was retired. I also had the dreaded light primer strikes that was fixed with the black rifle arms extended firing pin. BCA now has a enhanced extractor and firing pin in the new uppers. Sorry BCA but I still prefer the Black rifle arms ones because they are stronger. For the price you pay for these uppers, add in the BRA extractor and firing pin for another 30-40$ and the upper is sound! Regular Guy Training LLC Richmond KY
