A lot of us who watch NFL for years still have difficulties understanding the different systems and defenses .
@fredbaker90465 жыл бұрын
Thanks Coach I never knew coach Bryant invented that system.

I read it was A.O. Bum Phillips. I think it was for his high school teams in Tex .

Bear Bryant while at Texas A & M in the 1950's asked Bum Phillips when Bum was a high school coach at Nederland, Texas to devise a way to call defenses. Read "The Junction Boys" where Bum is discussed as having devised many innovative procedures still used today. Read Bum's biography Cowboy, Coach, Christian, and Wade's book Son of Bum to understand how his defenses evolved. I grew up with Bum and Wade and lived at the Nederland High School field house during my elementary and junior high years. I wish I would have seen the opportunity to go into coaching under Bum's tutelage. Would have been a wonderful life.

Also used 1 for center shade and 2 i for inside shade if guard.

Hi Coach; thanks for the explanation! What would be a technique for a defensive lineman who plays on the left side of the center? Would it still be termed an S? Thanks.

Jake I’m sorry you’ve never seen it this way, but it is accurate. Google Bear Bryant defensive line techniques and you will find it. I’ll try to post a pic of it. All head up techniques are even numbers. Some people call a shade on the center a 1 technique. But for a lot of people, a 1 and a 2i are the same thing. A 7 tech and a 6i are the same thing. But with like anything else, there are more than one way to skin a cat.

I know Warren Sapp played 3 technique, I wonder about John Randle

WHO IS JAKE? AND WHAT YOU SAID IS WHAT HE SAID IN THE VIDEO IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN. MIGHT WANT TO GET HIS NAME RIGHT FIRST BEFORE TRYING TO CORRECT HIM.

I've been looking at the NFL since 1970. I still didn't understand what the hell what there talking about. He knows what HE knows what he's talking about...but I don't know what he's talking about. I know what a 3 technique is...but why is it for and why is it important.

This seems complicated for no reason lol, should be 123 technique and then differentiate by position. E.g. 1,LG tech. I'm a noob so what do i know
@craigseaman4275 Жыл бұрын
That is the way I have coached it for year. O then 123 over the G 456 over the OT and 789 for the TE. Obviously 1 4 and 7 are inside shade and 3 6 and 9 are outside shades. Shades on center are 0 for head up + sjaded strong and - shaded weak
