How do you use.....................delay?

I use it in a lot of things most noticeably, guitar. If I could walk away with just one effect for my guitar it would be a delay.

Hi Gershon. My take on existentialism is that it's a way of looking at everything from a personal POV without using standardized measuring, labeling, and evaluating. This would be very hard to do with one aspect of my job, which is explaining synth technology to others, but very easy to do when I'm just turning knobs based only on how it sounds and feels to me while I'm in the moment. -_Daniel_

Thanks Daniel! I really love the way you teach and communicate audio principles and concepts. You are such a great teacher and your excitement for the details is contagious even over KZbin.

Bucket brigades are interesting in that they're subject to the same Nyquist law as digital audio, and don't have anti-aliasing circuitry like modern digital, but have the imprecision of analog which makes them sound all the more better. I think there's something to be said about imperfect tech as a source of beauty. Electronics are subject to the laws of physics, being physical entities, and while we can make those physics behave very precisely, we don't have to;) An electric guitar made of solid fiberglass composite might have better sustain, less coloration, not to mention more durability, but you're still gonna go for the tonewood. Piezo pickups might be cleaner than magnetic, but why do 99% of all electric guitars still use the latter? Because it sounds good. You can produce a mathematically perfect saw wave on most sampling, wavetable, or VA synths, as well as on a computer, but analog hardware is expensive and sought after for a reason! And if you want to be technical, it's not a saw wave, but an interaction between a capacitor building up a charge and a transistor switching the direction of current in response to that charge, not unlike a bucket of water filling up again and again. If you know a thing or two about electronics, you can follow along with how an analog synth works. It's not just playing back a sample - it's making current sing.

In the very early eighties, JVC released their very first consumer front-loading VCR, the HR-7700, which was quite feature-packed for the time. The machine featured such a thing to help keep the pitch of the audio the same whilst in x2 play, thus avoiding everyone sounding like Alvin & The Chipmunks! 📼🐿

After using all types of delays, I find analog and PT2399 based delays to be more "alive" in feel and sound, compared to DSP based delays.

Wow awesome, Daniel, you really broke it down to it's simplest form. I've been a fan of analog delays for many moons moons moon moo mo - hahaha I'm actually liking some of the newer digital delays that simulate BB Delays. What's your personal favorite vintage delay?
