I have never heard of a debit note until now, a credit note yes, but not a debit note. In any scenario that I have been in the supplier would just agree to send a credit note for faulty goods, and for an undercharged invoice would send a credit note for the full value of the original invoice to cancel it, and then issue a new invoice for the correct amount.

Debits notes aren't as common as credit notes. Most likely because, as you say, there are other ways to fix these kinds of problems.

You can do that too. Debit notes aren't used very often but some people use them.
