I had a moment of clarity when the video used the water freezing point - 0 centigrade i.e. with reference to analogy - finally I think I will remember it! Thanks.

Question.. if i have a sound preset and I turn the master bass volume of that preset all the way down to -10db, do all the bass frequencies disappear or are they just unhearable ? Many thanks
@ChuckN0rr1st10 ай бұрын
No, decibel is just a ratio between source and target signal. If you keep the preset on default, it will be at 0 db (unchanged). If you decrease below zero, you will reduce the volume relative to the original signal. -10db is somewhat ~30% of the originally volume. Your original audio signal is basically that reference point for db adjustment. The video talked about another reference point for decibel measurement. The absolut quietest noise a human could hear. This is often used to describe how much louder our environment is compared to perceived, complete silence.
