Nice dogs my ass.

I've seen IN SHAPE 200 pound Great Pyrenees and actually larger than than but it's not common. I've seen many 180 something pound in shape males. But he's pretty much right though.....160 pounds is a very desirable weight. It's not terrible on the joints but big enough to beat almost anything. W a bite force from 550 to a potential 700 psi they are extremely lethal but great family dogs. Good w and protective w small children. The bite force is from many articles I've read. I've never measured any dogs bite. I've heard slightly less but that's the best average I've found. For comparison a pitbulls bite is 230 psi

No matter the size of the dog, you need 2+ in cougar country. Usually cougar vs one dog is over fast with a dead dog, and 2 dogs vs 1 is a fleeing cougar. They understand strength in numbers.

Ok, they have to be trained. They don’t automatically protect everything. They may kill your chickens, goats ect. So know what you’re doing before getting one then complaining about it and getting rid of it. Plenty of pages on fb of pyr rescues. There’s an insane amount of these dogs needing homes or dying everyday.

"What is a great pyrenees" lemme stop ya right there homeboy, they are THE best livestock guardian dogs, they will stare down bears, throw coyotes like its a baby rabbit, protect you and your family at all costs, even against a bigger and older dog, look up pyrenees vs 11 coyotes, this fuckin dog killed 3 in a guys yard, and chased them down and killed 8 more over the next two days, before appearing back in the yard one morning with some injuries, and he pulled the fuck through. My pyr has stopped intruders, protected my wife, dad, and other dog from a beaten pitbull that had his leash set down, and all while being THE goofiest fuckin critter this side of the mississippi. THATS what a pyr is. The embodiment of loyalty.

The problem of barking in this dog breed, as in all mountain herding breeds, is unmanageable, as this dog dates back to Celtic times, of which Celtic Gaul (now France) was the main component. This dog has been trained for millennia to be a territorial dog. Anything approaching its territory, its masters or the herds it guards, is greeted by its barking. Like the Frenchman, this dog is voluntary, and he decides to protect his family, his herd, not to follow them ^^. The problem I noticed with the story of the 8 coyotes killed is that the patou was alone, which is a mistake. You always need at least two patou. They attack, harass and scare off or kill the attackers - they're very intelligent. A patou alone on this type of predator attack will be killed rather than hit his herd, which is why at least two patou are needed, for safe and effective teamwork, as in this video shot in France in the Pyrenees during a bear attack on a herd: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWLFZGt4nc6saac You have to show them that you're a solid person they can trust if you want to earn their respect, an example that children will follow by mimicry. The clan is the family and the family is sacred. Best regards from the Pyrenees, France
