What is a harp guitar? Hear this 1895 instrument on guitar stories with The Washboard Resonators

Harp guitars are fascinating instruments with a long history.
Here is one picked up from Forsyths music shop in Manchester.
It makes an interesting guitar story if you’re interested in vintage acoustic guitars and interesting one off Victorian guitars.
Although not a Gibson harp guitar which has long been a dream it’s a good stepping stone until the day comes.

Hmmm. I inherited a family heirloom that looks a bit like your guitar but a bit smaller and the second neck above has a few slanted frets and is narrow like a violin. It’s rough and needs a lot of repair. Wish you could see it. Cool wall art at the moment.

Sounds like a version of one of these. I’ve seen so many with different specs and so many one offs made with particular details - presumably for the original player. If you play they can be made to work and are interesting for many reasons.

Nice. I just got a similar venitian guitar from the 1800s. Didn't get it for $500 like you. But did get a deal as they were asking $3800 and I paid $2800. Just arrived to the USA yesterday. I was wondering if you know what the tuning is for the bass strings? Any advice is appreciated. Kalifornia Karl

I much about with tunings! Generally I have all the triads of the key of G! My pal Matt Redman has a three part documentary on here about harp guitars and goes into the tunings. He’s an expert!! I am the exact opposite! Love them though. They’re cool guitars!!
