I have my MOST experienced scouts present ILST. I directly supervise the presentation. This builds there self confidence and prepares them for NYLT staff.

Hey Stan, great video. 1 correction, the instructors are the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader according to they syllabus. Our Troop has the Scoutmaster teach the 1st module, Senior Patrol Leader teach the 2nd Module and the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader to teach the 3rd module.

Thank you for the correction. It was all newish when I made that video so some mistakes were inevitable. The Scoutmaster is still the lead on this troop training and can have the youth as instructors as they see fit. Good use of resource delegation is a sign of good management. Keep up the good work. Congratulations on 1000 subscribers Scoutstan!!!! I’ve been suggesting troop-level trainings for years!!! Now that I’m a registered adult, I feel the power of persuasion is greater. As I’ve attended National Leadership Seminar, I’ve understood the need for training is crucial to a successful unit and program. As for the adult leaders, what are some tips that I can use to persuade the adult leadership to push training for the youth? Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you very much. It's dedicated Scouters like yourself that make this program work. It is shocking to me how some adult leaders deliberately choose not to follow the program. If you have to convince an adult leader to use the training that is freely provided then maybe they should not be in the position they in. It is quite clear in all troop adult leadership training that troops are youth lead. It is also quite clear that they are to perform the training of the troops' leadership. I don't believe it is our place to convince them if they choose not to do their job. There are lots of other positions within a troop that they could fulfill if they choose not to use the training provided. Keep in mind we are a volunteer organization. Just having someone step up To the position is not enough. Scouting works only if adult leadership takes the training to heart. Leaders are taught how to lead. That's why most adult leaders who have their own agenda, choose not to use the training they've been given. Most problems within a troop can be overcome by getting everyone possible trained. That way it becomes more obvious to others of a non-scouting agenda. Keep up the good work and I'll see you on the trail. YIS ⚜

Do you use a ppt to help facilitate the training or do you just teach from the new syllabus? The BSA is now offering online training for modules 1 and 2 and they have a ppt for Scoutmasters to deliver module 3 virtually if there are concerns for COVID. I prefer to teach it all in person but I haven't found any slides for the new syllabus. It takes a lot of time to create a new training ppt and I was hoping the BSA would create one for us.

Very good point. I've searched around on the Internet and found that the 2011 syllabus and PPT are still available. This was the inspiration for the 2018 syllabus. I think with some modifications the PPT could be used. The Grand Canyon Council still has a PPT copy that can be downloaded from their website at: 247scouting.com/web_admin/BSA010/BSA010page970.php It sure would be nice to have the syllabus come out with a PPT so that we don't have to “reinvent the wheel” each time. I think that with the 2011 PPT out there that is very similar to what is covered in the current 2018 syllabus. Let us know if you find one out there that will match up with the current syllabus and I will post it here for everyone interested.
