What advise would you give a scout going on there first camp out as a SPL?

The advice I would give to the new SPL has two parts. First, remind the SPL that they are learning how to be a leader. The troop adult leadership is there to help you be a better leader. Ask lots of questions and actually write things down. Second, the SPL should delegate as much as possible. Leaders are responsible to see that everything is done, not doing everything themselves. Not to worry it will get better and more natural over time. YIS⚜

While I agree that a minimum of 4 YPT and IOLS trained & registered adults is a very good rule of thumb, the Guide to Safe Scouting only requires 2. This requirement may differ from one council to another, so it's best that Scoutmasters or Troop Camping Coordinators check with their councils. The easiest way to do that is to contact your Unit Commissioner. ;)

The 2 requirement works until one of them needs to leave because of an emergency. When this happens the camping trip is over? That’s why 4 is recommended to be a minimum. YIS⚜
