Someone I know is a bisexual lesbian, because she primarily likes women and often doesn't feel like letting people know she's attracted to men, because it's only certain men, and very rarely. So she identifies more with lesbians.

I think that's a very good way to navigate her situation!
@SpecialBlanket
@SpecialBlanket 6 ай бұрын
That's me too. It's such a negligible part of my sexuality that telling people would misrepresent the situation and open the door to a bunch of stuff I don't want to hear. Plus I'm not even sure if it's attraction even in those very rare cases, or just non-repulsion.

Something common I find weird and uncomfortable is if someone cites rape for the reason they have a genital preference. The trans person is just hitting on them. We don’t need to know they link trans women with rape for one. Trauma dumping on people who hit on you in a space where people are flirting is kinda messed up.

I myself have been SAed in some form by all of the guys I dated in my youth. (I know now that dating men really want the move for me anyway) I dated a trans femme for a while and had almost no issues with that trauma because she wasn't a man. Obviously everyone experiences trauma differently, but it just wasn't a problem for me like 90% of the time, and the few times it was an issue we just navigated it with open communication and trust

One of the reasons that many women within the "Daughters of Bilitus wanted their members to wear dresses is because it made it a lot harder for the cops to arrest them. Apparently, they showed up one day, but they said, "Hey, we're not doing anything wrong. Look, we are all wearing dresses."And the police left them alone.

@35:15 absolutely correct. It's not that bi men experience more biphobia than bi women in general, per se; but that gay men's spaces are SO biphobic
@Trash-Garbage-Trash
@Trash-Garbage-Trash 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's not more or less per se, it's just a different kind/level of biphobia, and many bi men choose to publicly identify as gay to avoid the stigma, while bisexual women are less likely to publicly identify as straight or lesbian an be bi in private. These lesbians are being biphobic, in saying that the only reason bi people identify the way they do is social pressure, when it's clear the reverse is much more common.
@Trash-Garbage-Trash
@Trash-Garbage-Trash 5 ай бұрын
I think it's also perhaps more dangerous for bisexual women to hide their bisexuality, because we know that bisexual women are often abused when they reveal their bisexuality to a new partner, and having it revealed later in a relationship rather than disclosed at the beginning can be extremely dangerous, so bi women are more likely to disclose at the start to avoid this outcome, in my opinion. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that when I've disclosed my bisexuality it has been met with anger and disgust in a way that felt dangerous many times. More so from women than men, who usually saw it as "not a real relationship" or "hot." But men were not entirely exempt from anger either.
@deltoro4926

While yes biphobia is very prominent in the community it's still a product of homophobia and lesbophobia as well like spreading the myth of bi men are trying to give women STDs and bi women are bring predatory men to pride, but iirc that have very little significance to the label itself right?
@frenchgiogio
@frenchgiogio 3 күн бұрын
@@deltoro4926Wrong. Biphobia is not a product of homophobia, otherwise homosexuals couldn't practice it without being affected by it but they do. Biphobia is about and centers bisexuality as a reason for hatred, fear and disgust. Bisexuals ALSO experience homophobia on top of that, which is different.

Tangentially related, but the fact a random Irish king from the 8th century AD is more accepting than most people today always cracks me up _The king was silent then. 'Have you had playful mating with another woman?', said he, 'and do not conceal it if you have'. 'I will not conceal it', said she; 'I have'. 'It is true...', said the king. 'That woman had mated with a man just before, and the semen which he left with her, she put into your womb in the tumbling, so that it was begotten in your womb. That man is the father of your child, and let it be found out who he is'._ (from Niall Frossach's True Judgement, preserved in 10th century Book of Leinster) (this is one of the least bizarre events in Irish legend btw) Me personally, i think we should call all nmlnm activity as “playful mating” from now on /j

The predominant “born this way” fixed sexuality narrative I do feel is a bit more nuanced in the specifically a-spec and trans non-binary communities. Like it is clearly still mostly the case (and for transgender people’s gender emphatically the case albeit not always obviously) but there are so many sub-labels in these communities that it does end up being a journey and frankly one’s experience of sexuality can change A LOT as an asexual or someone transitioning or especially as both. And recognising that fluidity and NOT gate keeping is seen as much more important than in the lesbian and gay communities because self realisation of ace or trans identities is hard enough as it is.

While we’re on the topic of bettering & preserving the queer community and investment in the community I would love to bring up 🔥MUTUAL AID🔥if you don’t know what that is it’s essentially a theory around caring for community with out hierarchy or relying on organisations like NGOs ect. Anyway what I’m trying to get at is you should also actively assist queer and other marginalised people that have fallen through the cracks of the system and urgently need help, or even just if they’re running out of capacity. Whether that’s donating, cooking a meal, giving someone a place to stay, education ect it is SUPER IMPORTANT that we all do this bec people are dying as we speak and no one’s going to help us except US! TLDR: if you have enough money to go to a gay bar, then you also have capacity to donate to someone in community who needs it

The only thing I don't like about how the word lesbian is used is that there's terms for people who also like men, that wasn't always the case but now it is. If you are into men who are like 100% that's a man, you arent a lesbian ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -a transmasc lesbian

the ultimate irony being that Sappho herself was...bisexual! When I threw that coin in the fountain, I asked to be dipped in honey and thrown to the lesbians but I got doused in Old Spice and left at Folsom Street. smdh...there was that hot topless lesbian kiss photographed in front of the White House during the 1993 March on Washington(in the April 93 copy of The Economist), but both my friend and I that were in it transed out after and that's just so queer, right?
