EE here Cody. First thank you for making these Great Videos. They fill in sooo many blanks for us industrial sparkys. Open Delta services can cause problems on SCR/IGBT controls because they deform the sine wave (making the peak higher) an tripping the drives on high bus faults. RMS voltage stays ok, so you can only see it on a Scope. You are a great Teacher! keep up the good work. Closing the Delta fix's it. (but thats more work for you guys)

Question, on the board in the shop you had A feeding the power pot and B feeding the lighting pot? Wouldn’t that give you counterclockwise rotation?

Is it true to say that the Lighter Pot/Power Pot is the same as Open Delta bank? Comparing this video vs the Open Delta Bank video that you made, it appears that both are same connections. Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes sir. When building a transformer bank that has a 4 wire delta connection on the secondary side (meaning three phases and a neutral) you will have both phase to neutral load, and phase to phase load. The phase to neutral load is referred to as “lighting load”, and the phase to phase load is referred to as “Power load”. The transformer that is supplying the neutral is called to lighter because it is the only transformer supplying the phase to neutral load. That’s why we call it the “Lighter. “ It does not mean that it is lighter in weight. The other transformer / transformers are only supplying the power load, or the phase to phase load. The lighter designated transformer would typically be LARGER in size (more current) than power pot? Open Delta two transformer system? Excellent explanation.

Yes sir. The lighter pot is carrying all of the single phase load and two phases of the three phase load therefor it needs to be a larger K a pot. 👍
