I get this all the time. I always play from the appropriate tee boxes, wherever I play. My golfing friends always struggle playing from too long tee boxes and always complain afterwards how difficult the course was. However they never learn!

It's definitely seems a big thing for people to move tee boxes and particularly moving up. I get it, and especially if you are playing with friends of different standards, but not sure it makes an already hard game any easier!

I've honestly never understood it. I've only come back to golf after 15 years absence. I played a lot as a junior and certainly then I wouldn't have dreamed about playing from the 'medal' tees. There was very much a distinction between ladies, mens and medal tees. Now I'm glad that distinction isn't as strong today, I do think less people should play from the back tees and stick to the middle or even try the front tees.

another good video, i am a sucker for stats, facts and figures. I play a course that is 6800 from the tips but that is too much for me to compete and enjoy. I play 6500 tees in the summer and 6200 in the winter, which although not a long hitter i can handle fine, helped by the course being flat which i think is a factor in how important the length of the course is (especially to seniors!). I am sure i would have a lower handicap if my home course happened to be shorter but good scores on a more difficult course give equal pleasure to me.

With the way the GHIN is structured and scored, a high score on a difficult course and a low score on a short course can be worth the same because of the course ratings. I used to play a 5400 yard, par 67 course a lot and could shoot 72-75 pretty consistently. But my handicap dropped significantly when I moved and start playing more 6200-6500 yard, par 72 courses and shooting around 85 because the courses were significantly more difficult. It dropped by several strokes even though I was shooting more over par

I don’t understand why courses feel they need to lengthen as the players hit further. There’s supposed to be a progression in ability and technology. I don’t want to watch Rory Mcilroy shoot the same score as Ben Hogan on the same course while hitting the ball 150 yards further than him. Course records should be dropping. It would make the game much more interesting to watch as the score will lower and vary just as much. When the only true scoring holes on most courses are the par 5’s, you’re just going to see a plethora of 66-68’s. I’d rather see a lot more 59-61’s

Interesting point Jaymes and it’s shouldn’t be surprising as you say that records keep getting broken as players test the boundaries of improvement. Not sure I’d like scores to go down as low as into the 50s regularly though but that may be just the romantic golfer in me and it’s not a bad thing necessarily as you say.

To many air head egos on the courses

Agreed egos definitely come into it Bill but think habit, especially when playing with a group of friends, is a big factor too. Think many people feel it affects the social aspect when different players are playing from different tees but personally think if you're enjoying the game more from the right tees it helps enjoyment all round.
