I have one building a nest in my room. I made friends with it and it is amazing to see them up close. Thank you for this video.

I've seen one in our house, I removed it not knowing what it is and in my surprise I encountered about 5 caterpillars in one cell. Is it the food left for the larvae?

Thanks for this video. I've accidentally damaged one of these nests and I saw where fresh looking spiders fell out. The wasp repaired the nest the next day and I've reserved that space for them since. The nests here are neat. These ones are yellow and black. They're doing the bees a favor, we have some spiders here that hide below the flowers and await in ambush.

To avoid killing their larvae, when is the best time to remove the mud nest.

So where are the adult wasps? They don't hang out in the nest?

There's been a nest outback on the patio in the corner for probably a year and a half to 2 years. We left it alone. It didn't look like anything happened to it, because it's just been a smooth clump for at least a year now, and now all of a sudden there's a bunch of holes in it. Why did it take so long for the holes to appear? Are they entrance holes o exit holes? It's hard to believe that they've been in the nest for over a year when they hatch after a few days. I have seen activity recently from mud daubers. I just don't understand how it could be dormant for that long and then something starts coming out of it. Let me know if you have any info. Thanks.

Most likely exit holes. The larvae became wasps and left

@@NotSoLiberal so the larvae stayed in there for for 2 years before they came out?

I was removing some ivy that had grown up the side of my house and accidentally grabbed a whole nest, ended up getting bit and stung by one. 72 hours later I am still in excruciating pain and my hand cannot fully close or grip from swelling. I'm about to call my doctor because my other arm and legs have a strange tingly numbness and slight swelling now. I've tried everything. Do not assume they are harmless to humans. They just have their preferences. I am convinced if I were stung or bit more times or by another one also I probably would have died if I waited this long to call my dr.

sounds like you were allergic to the sting of them

Also it could have been a different type of wasp because when the dauber leave the nest other wasps come in to claim it.

Sounds more like an allergic reaction to the sting more than the potency of the sting itself

Spiders are good and control worse pests. Mud Daubers, which are all overcthe worl, paralyse adult spiders for thei maggots to feed on
