What is a practical distance for a general purpose rifle

From Jeff Cooper to Chis Way, I have a fairly lengthy discussion on what constitutes a practical distance for both hunting and shooting in general. This is the last lead up to the culmination of an effort to find the best solution to a truly general purpose rifle.

Steve, great video. You’ve exposed what PRS concepts and shooters never discuss… Chris didn’t discover this , 2moa accuracy in all positions/ distances out to effective range of the cartridge is the military standard. In the Marines yes I shot at 500m with open iron sights, marksmanship skills being the primary goal of their course of fire. Building that skills foundation is crucial for all shooting… You’re on the money overall . Let’s see PRS shooters do a standing snap shot at distance… or positions unsupported no bags. PRS is a game and the shooters are gamers, gaming ie caliber shopping etc. but good luck finding the caliber du jour in times famine. Keep ‘‘em coming!

That is a very thoughtful video, thank you for sharing. Vickers told me long ago that whatever your best groups are on a square range, they are at least double that in the real world. He was talking about pistol and carbine, but i apply it to my scout rifle as well. Looking forward to your next video.

I love where you're going with this. I wonder if Jeff would lean into the technology or dig into a dogmatic " MY WAY is the final answer". As far as hunting, my personal limit is 300 meters give or take. Only once have I harvested out beyond 250. 311 yards measured after the fact. Prior military designated marksman.... for me pbr still rules as far as the KISS system. That said I'm still searching the perfect scout configuration. That let's me stretch my non hunting other uses legs. Great video, keeping the evolution and conversation going.
