My full review of the Sig Cross 6.5 Creedmoor as a general purpose rifle. Call it a Machaira or just a GPR, the Cross is in a class by itself. One note... I failed to mention that the ammo used is the Hornady American Gunner 140 grain, BTHP.

Same. Proprietary rifles can have their place, but an 18 lbs. bolt gun in a 6mm cartridge just doesn't have much use outside of competition. I think it is neat how ergonomic, practical, and accurate the sig cross is for how little it weighs. Yes, I have one.

@@msquared9605 Yes, you do have a point. There are always going to be situations where every rifle could have use. I know some of it come down to semantics of 'what is preferred'. Comparing this sig cross in 6.5CM to an 18 lbs 6mm BR for general use or SHTF, the sig would be accurate enough, lighter weight, and put down more energy at distance.

Cooper described an “assault bipod position” with the bipod deployed and the stock folded, the shooter with both hands on the pistol grip! It was shown with a HK91 in Art of the Rifle. I don’t know how effective the described position is but it did warrant a photo and caption.

Good discussion on the benefits of the SIG Cross as a GPR. However, I suppose the Cross could be used for general purpose but my choice would be a shorter platform like the CZ 600 Trail and in .223 for example. Personally I wouldn't likely be shooting greater than 200 for my general uses. The SIG might be a bit to big while on our farm while driving around in the UTV or ATV. Unfortunately for me, suppressors are not allowed in my neck of the woods. The SIG Cross seems to be a good platform for some.

That CZ would make an excellent utility rifle. In the way I've defined it, not so much a general purpose rifle but excellent for what you're describing. This illustrates a point though. "General purpose" doesn't have a definition. What your general purposes may be might be very different than mine or the next guy. I've tried to define it very broadly to encompass anything a rifle could reasonably be expected to do. The CZ would be a better choice as a farm use UTV rifle but the Cross could do it. Same is true of a variety of uses. There are better choices for each specific task, but when looking at one rifle to handle ALL tasks, you'd be hard pressed to find a better choice than the Cross.

Scope: how about the Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x 50mm Rifle Scope - XLR-2 (MRAD) $1500 21.7 oz 615 g 1st focal plane FFP illuminated? (The MOA model number for this scope is RZR-42202) I think it fits all the boxes and more. I prefer this reticule. Made in Japan. There are 2 versions that are lighter, but 2nd focal plane and simpler reticule, but slightly lighter: Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x 42mm Rifle Scope - HSR-5i MRAD $1300 19.1 oz 541.5 g 2nd focal plane Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x 50mm Rifle Scope - G4i BDC $1350 20.5 oz 581 g 2nd focal plane

Hey, as mentioned before i really enjoy your videos. Especially where you talk about the difference between a good trigger and a great trigger! Just got my hunting license in europe and really looking forward for the sig cross. Can you do a quick video why you chose 6.5 over .308? 308 is a lot more commen over here and it seems to be better for bigger game like red stag or big boar. However the 6.5 seems to have the advantage for long range, PRS etc. Im torn. Would love your advice. However keep the videos coming. We are learning much here. Thanks! Take care. Oh and one more thing. There are a lot of comments out there about the hinge mechanism becoming lose over time. Even on KZbin and the Sig Homepage reviews themself.. You noticed anything about that? Oh and one last note because i really enjoy learning from you, could you go over a basic: how to shoot better for first time gun owners? Like all the steps, why should the thumb rest on the triggerfinger side etc.?

You need to look at the 3-18 trijicon tenmile.... it marks all ur boxes and is the lightest scope on the market with every feature. Best glass. Toughest. Good turrets, zero stop, red/green tree reticle. Holds zero, 21oz

24 ounces on the Trijicon web site so US, three ounces lighter, yes but only 60 MOA of total elevation adjustment. Very limiting. Finding the right scope for this project is still frustrating.

@@cliffy109 I'm just saying I had this exact delema u did. And believe me I had 6 others on there until I settled on this.. ur either going to be heavy and have everything you want. Or light with hardly any options. This is the closest you can come to that with having some good options. The only other option for light weight was the razor lht, but when I had hands on with it the trijicon had it beat. Also I think the optika 6 was another close runner but I wanted a tree reticle.. I mean u can go up like 17.5 mils on mine and then if u really need more u got the tree for holdover. But it sounds good but realistically are you really going to be shooting 1000 plus yards regulary, it sounds sexy, but for me isn't realistic I usually don't go farther than 500, 90% of the time. I know it can be annoying.. I wish Leopold made a better freaking reticle in their vx5 or whatever line cause that was another nice scope but it's just a cross hair and dot. And the trijicon for being a 30mm and 44mm objective is one of the brightest crispest scopes I have looked through... please go on rockslide I believe and read the guys review of the tenmile, itl win u over haha

Do you have a specific reason for why you picked 6.5 over 308?
@cliffy109
@cliffy109 25 күн бұрын
Long story and I wanted to stick with the 308 but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that the 6.5 does everything the 308 does but it does it with less recoil and a flatter trajectory at long range. Cost has come WAY down on the 6.5 and match ammo is now in par with the 308. The only thing the 308 has over it is the availability of milsurp fodder.

This may be a good general purpose rifle for you but there are several things for myself I would find difficult. One, is length. Way too long and unwieldy. Two, eight ounces at the tip of the rifle is worst place for an extra half pound-messes with balance which is as important as weight, maybe more so. Three, is recoil really a problem with a ten pound rifle? Four, what about the muzzle blast without a muzzle brake? If this rifle only comes with a muzzle brake, then it isn’t very practical. Five, that is a huge big assed scope! And heavy! I suspect it also negatively affects the balance. This seems to be a good general purpose long range rifle Your argument is well made and your experience and training is far beyond most and worthy of consideration.

LOL... "tell me you've never shot a rifle with a suppressor without telling me you've never shot a rifle with a suppressor." So let's address this seriously. The Cross comes with an 18" barrel which is 4" shorter than most common rifles. The suppressor adds 5.5" so you're only 1.5" longer than a typical rifle. How much does 4" of a mid-weight rifle barrel weigh? Probably pretty close to the same 8.3 ounces of that suppressor. Remember, this is for a true general purpose rifle and that means it is expected to do everything fairly well. Long range shooting has very different requirements than one that is for hunting inside 300 yards and that means trying to figure out where compromises can be made without destroying the handling characteristics for the close stuff. It is a fine line. Recoil mitigation, blast control, scope features, stable bipods, stock design and other things are not a concern for a hunting rifle but they are if you're looking for one gun to handle it all.

I’m glad I gave you a chuckle. Muzzle brakes are horrible but most rifles don’t wear them, thank god. If the only choice is a muzzle brake or a suppressor, the question may be whether it is worth it. I have a 29 1/2 inch barrel Swedish Mauser M96 that is so wonderfully balanced that it’s nine plus pounds aren’t that noticeable until it is held vertically when taking it from the car to the range and back. It is so long, the muzzle nearly drags on the ground in African carry. In the field, I do not carry or use bipods, tripods or shooting sticks but do use a sling. My view on a practical general purpose rifle is closer to Cade Cole’s Mossberg than anything that is long, with a large heavy scope and heavy. Your rifle fits your needs and you are obviously very happy with it. We can differ in our opinions and leave it at that. I have a great deal of respect for the amount of thought and effort and dedication to rifle shooting, especially in the Scout Rifle subject, you have shown in past several years. Yes, I have shot and been around suppressed rifles (and those bloody muzzled braked monstrosities) to the point where the failure point with AR DI platforms becomes annoying.

If you don’t like muzzle breaks or suppressors, you can just take them off and put on a thread protector. This is also a very compact, lightweight rifle.
