After retirement is there provision to actually take possession of the specific assets inside the IRA (precious metals, real estate, etc)?

+Nathan Hickson You can take possession of IRA-Owned assets by 1) providing a valuation of those assets and 2) submitting that valuation with a withdrawal form.

Hi Kaaren, I have a 4plex for more than 15 years. Originally bought it for my retirement. Can I transfer it to my self directed IRA?

+Joe Neuah - Joe- If you personally own the 4Plex then your IRA cannot buy it. That would be a Prohibited Transaction. Your Self-Directed IRA can invest in new assets. www.uDirectIRA.com

+Joe Neuah - Joe, No it doesn't work like that. Your IRA cannot purchase assets you personally own. If you sell the property you can put SOME of the proceeds into an IRA but there are contribution limits so it is likely you could only put $5500 or $6500 into an IRA. Be careful who you do business with. We lost our whole cash retirement account by this same type of Self-Directed company.

Could you elaborate? Was it a scam company? or bad investment? Looking into this for potential investors and would like to avoid any bad companies that might be out there.

I do not recommend udirect. The trust company is American Estate & Trust, with which we have had issues.
