This is a great lucid and efficient explanation, really easy to understand. thank you! My working metaphor has been to get the pipes flowing first, then tweak the fuel to sustain the flow.

This podcast was sooooo helpful. I'm now discovering about SIBO and the implications it brings. The section on disordered eating and the approach to a SIBO diet was eye opening. It's something I need to investigate more for myself. One suggestion in terms of the other materials mentioned, would be to also include the links in the description. Particularly in this podcast where quite a few other references to your other podcasts and resources were mentioned. That would make it so much easier, especially for those of us having brain fog that even scrolling and searching is a task. Many thanks for sharing your wisdom with the world. 🙏🏽

Congrats on 100! Thanks for all the great info. I've probably had sibo for 30 years and it's caused me tremendous problems throughout my whole life. I'm so frustrated lately that I'm veering towards carnivore diet, but I think you gave a very balanced view that I'm going to try to adopt instead of always thinking so extreme. I also need to do better at testing so that I know what I'm dealing with better. Thanks again

As a fellow Steve , we tend to go extreme with everything! And we expect results as fast as possible.. unfortunately with food and the gut it literally takes so much time and discipline, gotta just realize that everything will pay off if we just keep at it.. even when it seems like nothing is happening, bacteria is a frustrating entity to figure out, like a maze, but once we figure it out we go strong .. you got this man! I’m doin this with you!

Thank you so much for this excellent and informative podcast. I've been struggling with SIBO for a few months now and it's a f**king nightmare. I'm currently taking Rifaximin, and at the 11 day mark symptoms are back in force. Checking out the bi phasic and low fermentation diets to see if they'll help. Also really appreciate you thinking of us vegans. Cheers.

Many useful tips here. Anyone folowing health podcasts on youtube for a time will see that there is an underlying controversy about meat mixed and vegetarian diets. I would welcome a respectful debate bewteen those who argue for different üpositions, eg all meat diets and those who believe that is wrong, because at the moment there are different podcasters giving very different opinions each with great conviction they are right! I would be fascinated if there were a civilized debate between those holding dofferent views about different diets and food protocols. Are carbs good or bad? Meat good or bad? Vegan fundamentally flawed? Id welcome some debates on this!

I have had a total colectomy and have terrible SIBO and CANDIDA. Would yo recommend doing an elemental diet? Do you work with people in New Zealand? I am at my wits end and sick of all the restrictive diets. And yes I feel like food is just my enemy!!!!
@TheHealthyGuts
@TheHealthyGuts 3 жыл бұрын
The Elemental Diet isn't recommended for people with candida issues as it can put an already delicate balance between bacteria and fungus in our gut out of balance. It just compounds it when there's already an active candida issue at play.

So when I had a gallbladder in my appendix removed and I’ve had a hysterectomy, the gallbladder being in 09, and the appendix and 14 my symptoms with my gut have become worse maybe something happened with the structure of my intestines is what you’re saying?
@TheHealthyGuts
@TheHealthyGuts 8 ай бұрын
Yes. 3 surgeries could have created quite a lot of internal scar tissue abs adhesions, which could impact the structure of your intestines. Plus losing your gall bladders means you’ve lost the ability to produce some of your digestive juices which help aid digestion.

I thought it was funny when she said don’t go out and have a burger and fries because before I started the bi-phasic diet (on week 4 now) I had taken my father-in-law out to Burger King and I decided to have a meal with him. He’s 84, has a form of blood cancer and needs bi-weekly transfusions and had a few bouts of UTI’s, landing him in the hospital late last year. He’s lost so much weight and only just started to regain his appetite, so when he discovered he now likes burgers, I’m all for him getting some extra calories. But it was not a good idea for myself as I don’t eat too much junk food. My stomach felt like someone punched me hard for a few days and I couldn’t do much because I felt so terrible. Won’t be making that mistake again. I did have the severe carb cravings and other nasty symptoms during the healing crisis I experienced during the first week, but I knew if I cheated, I would have to start all over again, and I didn’t want to go through that again. I will just have to be patient and only reintroduce foods slowly. This week I’m going to try a SIBO-friendly butter chicken recipe and a little white rice. Can’t wait.

Hi Rebecca - Can I send you my SIBO test results? I went on the rifaximin, two-week treatment. I felt great during the treatment and shortly after, I felt bloated again, gassey, abdominal discomfort/paint and crampy. I'm at a lost right this minute. I want to know what a good SIBO diet to follow? Should I go back on the antibiotic treatment for a longer period of time? I will consult with my Dr. But want to know your opinion...TIA David

I've been on a two week course of rifaximin, it didn't work unfortunately, now on a 6 week course, taking three times daily, on week three and no improvements yet, bloating even worse around period too, is this common? I've hydrogen sibo however slow motility and apple cider vinegar, kiwi and lemon water is the only thing to get things moving along daily. I'm aware the hydrogen sibo is more commonly associated with diarrhoea, have you experienced other people with symptoms like mine that aren't typical for the type of sibo? Any perspective or advice you have for me would be much appreciated!

Is it okay to eat plain full-fat greek yogurt while on Xifaxan for SIBO? Does it help or hurt the condition? Thank you!
@TheHealthyGuts
@TheHealthyGuts 2 жыл бұрын
If you can get a yoghurt that’s been fermented for 24 hours, most of the lactose will have been eaten by the culture so could be easier to digest with SIBO present. Some SIBO patients are ok with fermented foods. Others need to wait until they’ve cleared their SIBO.

Addressing the underlying cause of why your small intestine failed and allowed bacteria to overgrow. It’s generally a motility or structural failure that leads to this.

25:15 still not clear what specifically to eat. I understand 'why' is very important, it's just 1).there're so many podcasts of yours, you can do the 'why' under the different title. 2). There're patients who suffer for decades and are not up to all that.

There is no one size fits all diet for SIBO. It’s about finding what works for you, why your body is reacting to foods (and working on that) and slowly building up from there.

A SIBO diet just controls symptoms. It’s not a form of treatment. If the bacterial overgrowth has returned it’s necessary to bring that down through one of the treatment options. Do you know if you’re hydrogen, methane of hydrogen sulfied dominant?
