*UPDATE* Thank you to Adriano Ruiz (@showcdpneigh) for informing me that you can actually bypass the $5K class to get your VCP “Once you’re a CCNA holder, VMware allows for you to take their Foundations Exam, followed by the VCP-NV exam. This is a way to obtain the VCP without going through the 5k class.”

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a VMware lab video :) I run a small Esxi server - originally it was just to run the GNS3 VM as the main pc I was using didn't support extended page tables. I then used it to run various VMs, both Windows and Linux servers. Of late the main use is running a Kali VM to do basic Pentest labs as I'm concentrating bon Security. The best thing, Esxi is free! VMware Player is free too for desktop useage, though it has less features than Workstation. For those wanting to try Esxi, make sure your machine has an Intel based NIC. Saves a lot of headaches :)
@DialM4Microcontrollr5 жыл бұрын
If you don't already have Intel NICs, you can get older model, dual port Intel cards for$15 to $30 on eBay. Look for "dual 1000mt" or 1000pt models among others. Just make sure the card fits your system; some are PCI cards and some are PCI-Express

I'm sorry -- I still highly recommend the entire 40hr class -- just because you have CCNA..... ummmmmmmm............ no..... that doesn't enhance, or help you to understand VMware systems. Yes, some will argue that "well I know networking"... Great!!! Very Proud of You! But honestly, in this day in age, if you don't "understand" networking... hang up the phone and call it a day! Take the whole class.... I run into folks day in day out who think they know a thing or two/3? about VMware, vCenter, vROPs etc... ummmm no... ummm we virtualize... ummm SAY WHAT?!!!! Just as to be a Cisco "badass"... to be a VMware "badass" stop cheating -- sit for a class and get your company to sponsor you! And BTW.......... the 40hr class IS NOT A BOOT CAMP.............. you will actually "know" the material........... it's hands on... unlike these F****g paper CISSP/CCNA turds of late... (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE... VCE GUYS... !!!!!!) If you have attained VCP-DCV --- I have way more respect PERIOD! Because you CAN'T cheat the test.... much like the OSCP, OSCE... So in summary.. if you already have your CCNA..... Good job! -- but do yourself a favor............. VMware is /aside from the networking aspect/ is a whole other world. go to the class.... just my 2 cents.... enjoy the Journey!!!! This video is great but as far as VMware technologies... elementary at best....

I used to be really into VMWare at home for a long time. I bought WorkStation 1.0 when it first came out and regularly upgraded it. My host was always a Linux machine and I mostly used VMs to run Windows. Then, several years ago, it got too complicated trying to make sure the version of WorkStation I had supported the host I was running it on. I also very rarely need to run Windows, so I just switched to using VirtualBox.
