All About Absinthe
We go to absinthe-loving Maison Premiere and head bartender Will Elliott teaches us all about this increasingly popular spirit. We learn about the history of absinthe, the difference between white absinthe and green or vert absinthe, and why is was illegal for so long. Then we learn an absinthe cocktail using egg white, lemon, orange bitters, orange flower water, blanche absinthe, parfait amour, Cocchi Americano (an Italian aperitif wine)

That's half the story. There was a grape blight in France. When the wine industry began to recover everyone was drinking this green liquor and calling it the national drink of France. The wine industry ran a smear campaign against absinthe, proclaiming it to be toxic and deadly. I don't know why people think it's hallucinogenic. Maybe it's because it's associated with artists and poets.n I'm having some now in fact. It's lovely.
@martinavaslovik3433
@martinavaslovik3433 8 жыл бұрын
You are right, it was phyloxera that decimated the French vineyards and the wine industry was run by the French government who were desperate to get back market share so they cranked up a smear campaign to demonize absinthe making political hay out of the Lanfrey murders to that end. Absinthe is the most notorious drink in history for entirely false reasons.

Just like any alcohol, absinthe can be dangerous. The most dangerous part is Thujone. But that is only an issue at I believe 100mg/L and the higher the alcohol content the more thujone.
@thewhitestboogieman6552
@thewhitestboogieman6552 8 жыл бұрын
+wahneeota The amount of thujone in the supposed absinthe sold in America is so miniscule that one would have to ingest the whole bottle to begin to feel it's properties. By that time 99% of everyone would be dead. American absinthe is fake, fake, fake...
@martinavaslovik3433
@martinavaslovik3433 8 жыл бұрын
Thujone is bullshit. It's not a hallucinogen at all, it's a convulsive, and present in such tiny amounts you would have to drink enough absinthe to die of alcohol poisoning first before getting any effect from it, and die you would. Check your facts before you post about this again.

Okay wahneeota, please do tell us all why thujone is dangerous. It's not even a hallucinogen, it's a convulsant, present in a few parts per million, and to get any effect at all from it you would have to drink enough absinthe to die of alcohol poisoning first, and you never would get any effect from thujone! You have no idea what you are talking about, so why don't you just shut up.
