What is ACTUALLY happening - Moon Knight Episode 4 Breakdown & Review

Moon Knight night is upon us yet again. And this week we delve into all the startling revelations that came with that in Episode 4. A depowered Marc Spector/Steven Grant discover the tomb of Alexander the Great after the first reveal of Mummies in the MCU. You'd think that would be the weirdest thing in the episode but the revelation that Marc Spector was involved in Layla's fathers death leads into his own apparent death where we're treated to the revelation he's been in a psychiatric ward this entire time apparently. Then he comes face to face with himself and a hippopotamus woman and Goddess Taweret. Pretty standard stuff. Anyways thanks for watching!

My theory has always kind of been that Marc's encounter with Khonshu and being his avatar fractured his mind (like in the more recent comics) and made his dissociative identity disorder far worse and more supernaturally manifested.

I'm of the opposite belief that his DID has always been part of him. That Marc is dealing with so much trauma that he created a separate identity (or two!) to deal. it's why Steven Grant is everything Marc wants to be for Layla, sweet, caring, honest, very much into Egyptian history, and the other personality, Jake is the one who takes care of the utterly nitty gritty stuff, like a protector identity, which is an actual thing in DID cases.

Bc like so far from what I hear what we’ve seen in the show (aside from a few obvious hollywood exaggerations like directly talking to a visual of your alter in reflections and the very sudden switch between alters) seems like a decently accurate portrayal of DID so far. I’m personally of the opinion that turning it into literally anything else aside from Marc’s initial trauma doesn’t serve much of a purpose and would just take away a lot of importance for the DID storyline, so I hope the two oscar isaacs thing is only for the mindscape dimension in that scene.

Sunrise and sunset are major themes in Egyptian mythology, Marc floating into the Sunken Place as he dies silhouetted by light represents the sun's journey through the underworld as it guides dead pharaohs to the afterlife. Sunrise represents resurrection. Edit: is Taweret protecting Moon Knight because he's pregnant

Maybe the one who killed Layla's father is Jake Lockley, would explain why Harrow implies Marc killed him and why Marc is very reluctant to talk about the topic, and why there seems to be a more violent personality in episode 3 when neither Marc nor Steven know who is killing the Ammit followers (maybe it was Khonshu but i dont think so) and the 3rd sarcophagus looks like its bloody and Marc just doesn't seem to acknowledge its existence like hes trying to suppress it.

Interesting. Maybe Jake was his “partner” that he refers to saying he got too greedy? Not meaning they were necessarily actual partners but just how he refers to Jake in that quick moment. Marc seeing how dangerous and sick he is brings him to shoot himself. Only to be revived by Konshu. Could explain why Jake is so locked away, he’s too dangerous and has done some really terrible things. Just a dumb theory piggy backing off yours, but I definitely think that Harrow saying Marc killed Layla’s father has to have some truth to it.

Like when the room is completely trashed in Cairo and “Marc” is on the floor drinking hard liquor, it’s possible that was Marc in the smashed mirror and Jake getting drunk. Also theories that Jake was the one who asked out the girl from work, because it obviously wasn’t Steven and it makes no sense for Marc to do that. Lots of interesting stuff out there! Since Marc knew about Steven but Steven didn’t know about Marc, what if Jake is aware of both but neither are aware of him and this asylum setting is where Marc and Steven go whenever Jake takes control like we saw when they flashed to black flickering last episode but since Jake’s taken full control for the time that’s why they’re moving about in the space instead of just flickering?

My theory is that the asylum is not just some sort of other dimension or limbo but is actually the place where the Egyptian gods put into statues by the Ennead are imprisoned. Tawaret could be one of the statue gods we see at the start of the episode and a big part of the next one might be her, Steven and Marc working to find and free Khonshu so Moon Knight can come back and fight Harrow and Ammit. Would be cool to see more Egyptian gods

My brother and I theorize that the hospital is actually a boat to the afterlife. When the lamps swing, a watery boat-like noise is heard, plus Steven was taking about the journey into the afterlife with the little girl in episode 1. I think Taweret will be serving as a guide to help Marc & Steven become reborn and free Khonshu.
