I Absolutely LOVE adaptive music in videogames. But most people dont pay much attention to the music in games. So in this video I will go through the history of adaptive music, I will take a look at how it works and what kinds there are, and I will give some examples!

probably one of my favorite example of adaptive music is in payday 2. i love how between waves the music gets slower between waves and how they made this work with all of the tracks that you can choose.

Great video for explaining adaptive music! However, one perfect example you could've used was Mario Kart 7 and how, just like your game you're making, the futher down the menu you go, the more music is added. For example, the theme in MK7 starts off subtle, but when you go into character selecting, the music gets more complete, untill it is fully completed when you get to selecting a cup. (Edit: i should finish my videos before commenting 💀)

I think the first time I learned about adaptive music was with Minecraft. Ever since then, the concept has been stuck in my brain

Great video! I love how immersive adaptive music can be and have thoughts about how I'd make it myself. Lots of chopping up sections of music and stings between the two. Maybe it's overboard but could be cool. I hope your adaptive music makes your game just as cool.

I think Shawn Lee did a great job on composing adaptive music for Bully (Rockstar Games) especially on the two Xmas Mission and final mission for Chapter 3 phase of the game. Though my personal favorite for this is Left 4 Dead (Valve), the music gives important infos in your gameplay that literally turning the music off is "griefing" yourself.

I think you'd be a big fan of No Straight Roads. A game nigh all about music. Bosses have different attacks that happen in symphony with the different parts of the boss theme. Each boss has three different versions of their theme: Bass, Rock and EDM and moves into EDM for when the boss gets the upper hand, and into Rock when you get the upper hand. It got a christmas update that turned a lot of characters (and bits of environment, i think) into Christmas variants *plus* christmas versions of the boss themes. And on top of *that*, the Encore Edition added a new remix for every boss theme, each done by a different artist. Plus, if you hold the action button, a guitar or drum solo version will play over the boss theme, depending on which character you play as. You may have heard of the game known as Hi-Fi Rush and while that is a very big feat on its own, it's more about the rhythm. NSR is really about the *music*.

Got this randomly recommended, just wanna mention that I love that someone else is nerding out about this topic. Have you by any chance ever played either Banjo Kazooie or NieR: Automata? Both are other great examples of adaptive music and are my personal favourites as well
