What is an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)?

I'm long out of high school and I used to have IEPs all throughout my K-12 years. The date of my IEP meeting wasn't my favorite time of the year. I didn't particularly want to go but I also kind of did. It wasn't to get all the attention but to have a chance to advocate and be heard when it came to topics that were of utmost concern to me. I didn't want anyone to decide my future without me, which people have the propensity to do when you have a disability and multiple people collaborate on your behalf. I appreciated everyone's efforts back in the day but today is the day and now I'm not used to that anymore. What's in the past in the past and now there's no childhood past for me anymore. I'd hate to revisit my old IEPs because today as a grown adult, I'd feel suffocated and patronized to have people collaborate on my behalf to make decisions for me, set goals for me, and give me all the attention.

You can always send a child to Kumon or sylvan to help them cope with an IEP . In the same way, you can actually help a child with academic difficulties. Or the 504 plan is also an option. As you may know, the IEP (individual education program) is designed to help and modify a child in his/her educational status. Kumon or sylvan may be the answer to the problem.

I am a first-year special education teacher, and I have an IEP today for one of my students with autism. The hardest part about working with this student is that the parents won't get him fully diagnosed. It has been difficult getting services that would be appropriate. I know this doesn't explain it fully, but are your thoughts? Mind you, this is a small district, so there are not a lot of resources, but I want to advocate without complaining about what the district doesn't have if that makes sense.

This is all POLITICAL to tied PARENTS down. It's advertised to help student, but the TRUE GOAL is to make PARENTS work harder and less work for TEACHER/PRINCIPAL/DISTRICT. It's used as SCAPEGOAT for FAILED Education System. Not even the TEACHER/PRINCIPAL/DISTRICT knows this as they are part of the game themselves. Time to RESTRUCTURE the SCHOOL SYSTEM and enabled the HEART/MIND to teach.

My son has IEP and he is six years old now and started when he was three years he has made a lot of progress I wonder when they will stop his IEP?

Usually an iep is kept in place as long as the child needs supports at school.

My son in two school districts lost his IEP in 1st grade and later found it 4 years later they told me then retested him with expired state board testing. The school district have the state officials protecting them Allowing them to not give my son a education at all now..., also because I am a poor single mom that is homeless they were allowed to get away with it

My sister has a son who is non verbal and has a IEP and the teachers want to cut his school hours to one hour a day They called her and had her pick him up and told her that from now on he is allowed one hour of education and they might increase as time goes on is that fair ?it's his 2 nd day today .

My son has an iep for speech. I heard his speech therapist say several times she doesnt think he will be getting speech therapy for long since he progressed very well. He will start kinder which is a hig change from prek so i am concerned they will take away the iep and he still need it? Any guidance? Thankyou

You will likely need to request evaluations and to see the data that proves he won't require it. But if he is above their cut off in evaluations then it gets tricky. You may contact a local education advocate.

Do they provide IEP in public schools or they are in special schools?

These are done throughout the US- not sure what other countries offer but an IEP is standard for children in schools in the US who have additional needs.

What's the difference between IEP and ABA. Can ABA be a part of IEP?
