What is an UNDERRUN HEEL? (Set up trim on a TB mare)

What is an UNDERRUN HEEL?
This is a first set up trim on a TB mare that had previously been shod.
I explain to the owner the following points in the video:
- finding the hard sole plane (HSP)
- atrophied tender contracted frogs
- the difference between an underrun (overgrown heel) and a heel trimmed down to Mother Nature's constant - the hard sole plane (HSP)
- the mare's natural hoof shaping and pillars of support
- the entry point to her recent white line abscess
- how her foot will improve with better diet and management
You'll notice that we don't remove toe wall, we respect this mare's natural pillars of support and trim to her natural constant of the HSP.
This mare was totally sound walking away from this trim because we only removed that which she would have removed herself had she been travelling enough miles a day.
We are co-trimmers - we don't remove toes beyond the water line - we ALWAYS respect Mother Nature.
