After exhausting all the 2d Metroids, this was the first Rom Hack I played. I'll be honest, in the beginning I liked the visuals but I thought I was just gonna be getting stuck and it would be not like a real metroid game. But pretty soon, I got the hang of the different physics and I was having a blast! This is like Super Metroid 2, its beautiful, features some neat gameplay changes, and the puzzles are probably a little challenging for a newb, but thats balanced by the power ups and sequence breaking you can do. Its fantastic. I just hope there are other Rom Hacks that are as good, because I'm pretty soon gonna be in 2d Metroid witdrawal

Hey Stunt! Didn't know you had a KZbin channel as well! I found this video after watching GaRan's TAS of Ancient Chozo. What I saw blew me away! I didn't know that Ancient Chozo's spritework was custom. I thought Albert had just imported some of the tilesets from Fusion & Zero Mission that were available on MetConst. I really should replay Ancient Chozo. I last played it shortly after it came out, when half of the features you mentioned didn’t exist, and I’m probably missing out on a much better hack than I first experienced.

I've got AC 1.1.5 ~ How do you perform the MeteorBall and that funky Shinespark without the Speedbooster? Not like I'm tryin' to speedrun, but it's always fun to try and integrate stuff like that in a normal playthough just to break the game here and there.

Alex_Wolfenstein97 Hey Alex! Basically you have to be holding run and lay a bomb, then about midway through when you pop up off the ground tap and hold the direction you’re facing and you’ll start to get a speed echo, from there unmorph and hold the direction you’re running, (if you have speed echoes while running you did it right) then squat and there ya go, you got yourself the ability to shinespark. Hope this helps. If not, I’d be willing to make a quick tutorial for exactly how to do it. :) good luck bud

How do you do that one? the closest thing I've got is throwing a bomb down and then just getting across the room without the shinespark effect so I think that's something else. I might make a quick video and reference it just so you have a better idea maybe.

@@Qwoll Ancient Chozo’s map and damage values on enemies/bosses are just different enough from the original that it makes it a bit harder. I’d say play Project a few times and get used to the physics and get a feel for it then moving to AC should be a lot easier and in turn, more enjoyable :)

halcyo That’s pretty awesome! The only problem is that this game is constantly being updated over years so new versions release that outdate older ones. So I would make 10000% positive that it’s the newest version 1.1.5 that’s being loaded on the cart. I’d just hate to see you order a cart and it be a way older version :(

Personally, I’d invest in a flashcart for snes if you’re going the console route. Like a SD2SNES or an EVERDRIVE :) that way you can always just load the cart with newer versions as they release via an SD card!

I wouldn’t say it was inspired by project base as more than half the rooms are copied from project base except they made spikes insta-kill you. In my opinion its hella overrated, the meteor ball is downright annoying and I kept accidentally pulling it off while trying to do a simple bomb jump. The red brinstar theme isn’t even special, its just torvus bog on the snes. Everything about Ancient Chozo just screams: “IM THE BEST ROM HACKER EVER IM BETTER THAN YOU”. Whenever ancient chozo isnt ripping off other hacks, its making the game unnecessarily hard for some reason.

This is a really weak criticism. "Everything about Ancient Chozo just screams. "I'm the best Rom Hacker ever I'm better than you." How is this a negative? It's possibly the greatest rom hack, ever, and it is better than the rest.
