I love how this video represents adults with autism too. We grow up to be adults, and our autism doesn't just go away like people expect it to

Anyone else still confused about lisa's bit? I don't get what she did wrong, she just told them what she was wearing and they just went :/
@ScottishAutism4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, thanks for your comment. The group were trying to ask Lisa what she would be wearing to the dance. However, Lisa believed that they were asking her what she is wearing now. This is an example of processing a question literally, which some autistic people can do. The group who asked her the question became confused by this. Lisa did not do anything wrong in this situation, this is an example of how autistic people and non-autistic people can both experience a mismatch in communication and mutual understanding. If you'd like to find out more about autism please visit our website www.scottishautism.org/about-autism

How do people get tested for autism? My family tend to suggest every so often I'm on the spectrum and since learning more about it I'm starting to identify traits. I want to find out to understand better how my brain works but I also kind of don't want to know at the same time

Hi Ray, The best thing for you to do would be to contact our Autism Advice Line. We have a dedicated team of Autism Advisors who will be able to offer some advice and support on this. The Advice Line is open Tuesday to Thursday 9.30am - 4.30pm and can be contacted by calling 01259 222022 or emailing advice@scottishautism.org. I would also recommend you speak with your doctor as the only way to know for certain would be through a formal diagnosis. I hope this helps. Thanks, Nicki

thank you, it helps me a lot. I am traslating it in italian for our site about autism for our school (sportelloautismo.altervista.org that will soon migrate in www.alberghierocastelnuovocilento.gov.it/autismo). I have a way to put subtitles in italian on this blog (but they can be seen only in the blog), have I got your permission to put the subtitles to your video, in my blog? I put a link to this video and a translation in italian in this page sportellautismo.altervista.org/cose-lautismo/ and here where the blog is migrating www.alberghierocastelnuovocilento.gov.it/autismo/2017/02/17/cose-lautismo/

no they dont. Allot of people with autism with a high IQ, high functioning autism or asperger dont know they have it and are often late diagnosed age 50+ most of the times never!
@Anna-bx9qc7 жыл бұрын
true the only way you would know is if a doctor told you, but as i have heard it is hard to tell and isn't that big a deal because many people get used to it not knowing they have it and live normal lives.

I am 15 and got diagnosed about 6 months ago and didn't know I had autism until I got diagnosed, because I work almost like a person without it only difference is that I sometimes don't get what people mean.

@TabbyRose Very true I only found out last year!! It make it easier to understand why i act the way i do. Like farther like daughter (my dad has autism too) and hadn't realised until 5 years ago., he is on a waiting list to be diagnosed (2 year waiting list)
