What Is Basketball Athleticism?

Basketball athleticism many times is wrongly seen to be how high players jump, how fast they can sprint straight ahead, and how much they can benchpress. But there's so much more. Stability, lateral and linear quickness, vertical explosiveness, squaring to the basket, and much more. Check out the video for the four main components of athleticism, and stay tuned for how to improve them!
Basketball is truly a game of inches, which is why "Attention to Detail" focuses on the smallest nuances of the game. We focus mainly on biomechanics and the details that spectators do not normally catch.

No Derrick Rose highlight? shame. He's one of the most athletic players I have ever seen despite his injuries.

I think Brandon Roy is a good example for basketball athleticism... well minus the knee cartilage issues. He was so strong with the ball

Basketball players are the most athletic, stamina filled, coordinated ahletes with long reaches, tall height and still light weight and fat. They would make good boxers and good stand up fighters in mma.

@Jack12today That's mostly because the sport is inherently more physical and they weigh more. Factor in the hand eye coordination, basketball players are equally as athletic.

@Jack12today There is no vertical jumping involved in Football. Also they get to wear so many guards and protection. Also Soccer plays have the same agility as football players. When you make a football player stand beside a basketball player, you'll understand the difference.

@Jack12today that's true but also unfair because around half the league are 7 foot giants who cant necessarily jump high. also the tests arent always true as russel westbrook was listed around a 36 inch vert which is definitely not true

Everyone knows Rose was, and still is athletic. We are trying to outline the subtleties of basketball athleticism, not the explosiveness and 40-inch verticals that literally anyone can understand.

I can see what you mean, but truly I think that personally that athleticism is is based on how athletic a person is. Even if it is only basketball specific. Although I may be wrong and I would love to hear your reasoning behind this video

A tennis athlete might not be able to excel at basketball, even with his athleticism. Sports develop specific athletic traits because of how they are played and practiced.

dont Square your feet to the basket when you shoot, it will Hurt your shot. sure for some players is works but for most, if your righthanded your Right Foot should be a little in front of your left Foot, feet turned away from the basket and so do the hips
@ByAnyMeansBasketball
@ByAnyMeansBasketball 8 жыл бұрын
Again, square doesn't necessarily mean pointed directly towards the basket. When we say it, we just mean on-balance with the toes pointed to where the natural position is for each shooter.
