If you actually read your Bible. You can see here. That the rich man even followed all of the ten commandments, but he lacked FAITH. To go through with the work. Even though, in the eyes of man. He might've seemed like he had a good "character". Its not about looking good to people. It's about being justified in the eyes of God. Being justified by works through FAITH.

@@jordanpeterson3979 it might be that what thrown you off was the word --bingo attached to the word faith. 2 Peter 1:5. shades some light on the character part. Faith can be fleeting if it doesn't hold up against the wind, let alone a storm a hour away. God test ones faith in fiery conditions just to see if there's any value or character for the long haul. It might be a matter of ones interpretation.

Romans 5:1-5 - Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ You either have faith in Jesus or you don't. It's not a character issue. I'm sure the thief on the cross seemed to have a poor character, but he's still saved. Yes, God works on our character over time. The point was. There's a lot of false preachers and teachers who seem to have "good characters", but aren't saved and lead many astray.
