And so he became one of the most important thinkers and scientists in history. But to do that, he had to embark on an extraordinary journey, do hundreds of experiments and write for 20 years.

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution posits that species evolve over time through natural selection. This process involves individuals with heritable traits better suited to their environment being more likely to survive and reproduce. Over generations, these advantageous traits become more common, leading to gradual changes and the emergence of new species.

The aspect of natural selection that is missing in this video is the one that is not obvious to many people: the resulting adaptation applies to a species, not to individuals. Thus some would argue that it is ok if we have pollution; we as individuals just have to adapt to it. What they miss is that it is likely that most of us will not individually adapt and instead will die. The few who do survive the pollution, may or may not have a genetic distinction that allows them to handle the pollution, and if they do, they may or may not pass it on to their offspring. Evolution is a game of chance, usually taking place over hundreds, thousands, or millions of years, and some of our human-made environmental changes such as plastic, global warming, etc. far surpass the typical timeframes necessary for a species such as ourselves to successfully adapt.

You can generally dismiss any comment addressing you as 'mate'. And you are correct. Thats why short lived creatures such as Drosophila melanogaster are used. Of course the colour change by the peppered moth to dark camoflage in the soot laden industrial revolution and back to light after the UK clean air act came into force is a prime example of evolution.

There has been a ton of progress in the understanding of evolution in the last half-century, but the idea of natural selection is still the fundamental basis of it, thanks to Darwin. Natural selection plays out in more complicated ways than Darwin ever imagined, but the fundamental principle of competition for limited resources leading to selection of favoured individuals remains strong, in fact a law of nature really.

It wasn't Charles Darwin that proposed the theory of "evolution". His grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, had proposed that 75 years before Charles and considered all form of life as related. A number of other scholars of the time also accepted EVOLUTION of species. They just didn't know what drove it. Charles was quite clear in the title of his work, "On the Origin of Species by Means of NATURAL SELECTION, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life."

It is crucial to precise that Darwin did not address the problem of the origin of life. Although evolution is an observable fact, we must tell the public that Darwin himself still believed in the immaterial origin of life. This is what he says in the last edition of his book, the one published in 1872. In the last chapter, with the last sentence, Darwin says the following as the closing statement of his book: “There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone circling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved.” Anyone can grab a copy and check it by himself. Darwin didn't deny the immaterial origin of life.

@@bilal535 of course i do, theory cannot be proven, evidents can only support it (even gravity, which many people see as fact, is still a theory because according to Einstein, gravity is not a force). Back to evolution, you can look up things that challenge evoluation theory, to name a few: no fossil records of in-between species, no explanation of the very first origin of species, the complexity of cells to be able to change their functions from 1 species to the next is very closed to 0%. Darwinism does explain well micro-evolution (adaptation to the change in habitat), but not the whole evolution.

I have one issue with this presentation: rather than Homo neanderthalensis being swallowed up and merging with Homo sapiens, what if it was the other way around or in fact completely chaotic. What if homo neanderthalensis genes were "not fit" in comparison with homo sapien genes and were gradually selected out over time. Recent research proposes that we may be 10-20% neanderthal or an even higher % because there has been a gradual eradication of less fit neanderthal genes, which now shows up as 1-3%.

A new book published by Austin Macauley Publishers titled From Chemistry to Life on Earth outlines abiogenesis in great detail with a solution to the evolution of the genetic code and the ribosome as well as the cell in general using 290 references, 50 illustrations and several information tables with a proposed molecular natural selection formula with a worked example for ATP.

I am an Antitheist Atheist I do not believe in the existence of God. There is no evidence to support the belief in any gods or supernatural entities. I am a health scientist, but I still believe in creation! I've read and studied the evidence of evolution and natural selection, and I have come to the same conclusion over and over again, that it requires more faith to believe in evolution (due to the so many missing links) than to believe in the creation theory! I however don't impose my beliefs on anyone. Everybody got his own choice, and that should be respected, especially by those who don't hold the same view of matters.

The comments are insane. People should read: On The Origins of Species before you spew your pre-formed opinion. Or read his journal entries. Darwin simply expanded on already existing concepts. His biggest flaw was he was born and raised in the West. I am a Westerner as well, so this isn't meant as a slur, however, us Westerners have a very linear view point. This limits our understanding of literally everything. I am not the authority on this subject, but one thing I keep in mind that helps me process complex information; I always keep in mind our universe was born out of two opposing forces. To a human, all this really means, is we need to remember to have perspective or the patience to understand why perspective is crucial for a species to survive. It isn't about Darwin being right or wrong, its more about *can we use this technology or knowledge to truly advance our species and other species. Think of Einstein and Newton. Einstein didn't *replace* Newton's theory, he simply modified it.

Currently reading the fantastic book, "Every Living Thing: The Great and Deadly Race to Know All Life" (2024) by Jason Roberts. Charles Darwin is greatly indebted to the groundbreaking work of the French aristocrat George-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon in formulating his theory of evolution. De Buffon also helped lay the foundation for what would later be known as genetics and climate change.

I recommend listening to Dr. Haitham Talat and Dr. Iyad Al-Qunaibi. They have wonderful episodes that expose the myth of evolution and discuss many other important issues. Unfortunately, their content is only in Arabic, but there is automatic translation on the episodes presented. I recommend listening to their episodes, especially in response to atheists and their failed myths, such as the myth of evolution.

What do you define as a species? A species is a category of animals that can produce biologically viable offspring. Two animals that are unable to produce viable offspring may be considered different species. Speciation (the process of more and more species appearing, as well as species going extinct) is literally evidence of evolution and natural selection at work.

Science & Religion - both labels are an attempt to answer the most pressing and fundamental questions, albeit from opposite ends. Both labels run the risk of presenting an exclusively human-centric worldview by dissecting what is otherwise an infinite continuum (consciousness/energy field) into narrow slices, zooming in on those slices, and proclaiming that that slice is the only reality relevant or worth exploring. Both approaches have their strengths and limitations. I think the inclusion of the word "God" into the spiritual lexicon is defeatist and dissuades the younger generation from exploring metaphysical notions, as that word conjures up an image of an exclusively humanoid entity, typically male, and having an affinity for some planet, species, gender, geographical region, race of people, language, culture, etc. Instead it might be more productive for spiritual notions to be framed in scientific terms, as E = M (divine energy manifesting as all that is), an underlying homogeneous consciousness/energy field manifested as the heterogeneous/diverse cosmos that is observed. Like the number 0 remaining in a non-judgmental equilibrium state by manifesting as infinity (experiencing existence from all vantage points; as matter/anti-matter, as both the victor and the vanquished, as both the hunter and the hunted, as things and their contradictions). "Yahweh/Jehovah" is not a proper noun but rather a description of a state (I am, that which is), similar to the Sanskrit "Tat Tvam Asi" (Thou art that).

We ultimately come from fish. But if we want to go even further, we all descend from unicellular life forms. And there is a branch of biology, called abiogenesis, which studies how the simplest life forms originated from non-living matter. Aadam’s creation by Allaah in Named Earth with the feminine noun Al-Jannat, who is one dual representative symbolism of the entirety of Allaah’s creation, and once lowered back as a result of İbliis refusing Allaah’s command to Al-Malaa’ikat (collective feminine noun - and each masculine noun Al-Malak - as representative symbolism of the As-Samaawaat = the Skies / the Heavens, plural of As-Samaa’ = the Sky / the Heaven) to prostrate to Aadam (created from Al-Arḍ = the Earth Al-Jannat), and once İbliis puts his threat to action and Aadam obeyed then Aadam was split into two separate bodies of male and female, and as result all three of them collapsed into forming this Ad-Dunyaa of the plurality and diversity. Hence, humanity (part of animals of the earthy living creatures) is the point of the natural selection of the natural evolution. Allaah’s creation is expression of the İslaam as final selection of what Allaah had already expressed globally; as the Creator to the selected and related individuals amongst their communities as the representative of Allaah’s creation in this Ad-Dunyaa corresponding to Aadam created in Earth Al-Jannat.

FACT: Alfred Russel Wallace was the FIRST to come up with the theory of evolution. But he didn't have Darwin's clout, money or connections.
