how does the coil stay energized after releasing the green button, i understand that you use a parallel no contact but i don't get how it stays active after a single press, i mean how the current continuous to pass through the contanct mechanically. In my mind releasing the button even with the no contact shouldn't it stop the whole thing?
@electricallectures3 ай бұрын
This is very basic usage of contactor. It energizes as soon as you press the push button. And when it energizes completely and plunger pulls the contacts, then it's auxiliary contacts also change their state. When no is used it change to nc and continue power across coil. This is called holding

can I use contactor to switch 24VDC 100aMP (source 1) OR 24VDC 100aMP (source 2) to a single load which need 24VDC 80AMP. When my source 1 fail to generate 24VDC, the load should automatically switch to source2.
@electricallectures Жыл бұрын
Be very careful to switch 24vdc . Bcz contactor rating are for switching AC. There are special DC coils to switch 100Amps

When using 3phase contactor, do I still need a separate 120v circuit to energize the coil ?
@electricallectures3 жыл бұрын
Contactor comes in different coil voltage range that depends on control voltage. If it is 120v then u connect phase to neutral across the coil.

24v dc 2no 2nc - 230v ac contactor will work on solar panel dc volt 0to30v. I am taking solar volt as reference to connect 230v ac line 1 and 2 switching function. When solar available line 1 to be connected . If solar not available then line 2 to be connected. My doubt is will this contactor work on solar dc volt.
@electricallectures3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Solar voltage is higher than rated contactor voltage. And normally for dc voltage you need dc components

What is the voltage applied for coil to make it electro magnet. 12volts, 24volts? How can we know the same. Is this voltage given saperate from addaptar?
@electricallectures3 жыл бұрын
Its mentioned on each contactor. You can have different coil voltages ranges from 24v to 230v ac or dc. Its important you must apply voltage equal to rated coil voltage to make it electromagnet. High voltage will make it burn

how much the load or amp will be use by the coil?
@electricallectures Жыл бұрын
Very less usually 25w to 100w coil. For 11kv contactor coil is around 220W. So it means less than 1A @220vac

Why don't we give a direct 3 pole switch to the load??
@electricallectures Жыл бұрын
Because the contactor is mainly used to remote switch on and off the load through push buttons. Load switch cannot have this provision

Because of its duration. It's happens so fast that magnetism retain which attracts the plunger.

@@electricallectures okay , few days back , one of the auxiliary contactor coil got burnt, how to avoid these issues of coil burn outs ? is there any predictive method for these kind of problems ?

Not at such. Main source is voltage spikes which damage the coil. Normally in general maintenance of contactor we dont consider the coil . Only overhaul the contacts
