Could be just a college/high school thing because I don't watch that much NFL, but I've seen teams line up in a Cover 0 to stop the run. Virginia Tech vs Ohio State in 2014 is a prime example that lead to a massive upset

For sure - it's all game plan specific. Typically coaches will marry cover 0 with a blitz. However, if defensive coordinators feel as if their defensive backs are better than the other teams WR's, they will play cover 0 across the board.

You'll see it much more against double threat quarter backs in the NFL. The high risk/high reward analogy goes both ways. Bruce it or not, arm talent quarterbacks love "threading the needle" and "run threat quarterbacks" love disproving haters. Zero blitz has been working well against elite level Q's in 2022.
