Hi Rob, it's all good but I think you should show more in the video how to do it so people can mimic and learn. Theory and why it works is something we already know and that's why we found the video. The question is how to do it. Practical examples are best. So demonstrate. Thanks.

I just want to share a little thought/ anecdote in relation to this subject. I've been going on and off of experimenting with cry mode/ tilt for a few years now and it was hit and miss until recently... It wasn't until I landed in full blown rehab in the last few months for my depression. I worked on actually crying and feeling my own suppressed emotions did I gain access to my cry mode in singing! It was like I could call upon that reflex 10 fold. I don't believe there is any quick fix pill but for almost 4 years I couldn't even cry cause I learnt to bottle up my emotions, and now crying is doing wonders for my voice now, and probably overall health. I've been watching all of your videos on cry mode now since!
@eileensnow61532 жыл бұрын
I did that to myself on purpose! When I was in middle/high school I never shed a tear unless I physically couldn’t help it (like if I was in a cold wind or plucked a nose hair). It can be difficult to get that emotional access back, and nowadays (I’m in my late 20’s) I’ve swung in the opposite direction, and I cry all the time. That’s actually what led me to this video-how am I supposed to get through an emotional song without crying? I’m sure I’m in the wrong place after 2 minutes of the video, but I had to pause it and reflect a little on how much sense it actually makes-I’m an emotional person, so when I sing and push my larynx into that position, my body assumes I’m upset. The human body is amazing.

when you say that when we cry, our bodies puts us into this ' high performance ' position called cry mode , 1)do you mean that the larynx tilts ??? 2) As singers, I thought we were supposed to lower our larynx and keep it down or at a speech level ...so if we raise the larynx up, that seems kind of contradictory, doesn't it??
@Thevocaliststudio2 жыл бұрын
The larynx may or may not tilt when in cry mode. that is a different issue. No you do not want to put your larynx down just because... with no purpose to do so. Having a high larynx position is fine. The issue is understanding why you would be high or low. You can sing with cry mode with a low and high larynx. Cool. glad you liked it. Check out our courses. www.TheVocalistStudio.com

That's so weird I've recently become aware of this co-ordination but wasn't sure what was happening it just felt like some sort of lift in the throat. I thought it was just the larynx raising at first (eee- sound) yet found I could still lower the larynx (yawn-sound) while keeping this raised feeling. Still can't full visualise whats happening in my throat but definitely gonna focus on maintaining this sensation when I sing. Don't know if that makes sense? Anyway thanks for the upload! +1 subscriber :)

@@Thevocaliststudio hey Robert, I have misunderstood this cry mode for the last 4 years. A teacher (Who I stopped going to) told me about ‘cry’ but explained it as a sensation I feel across my sinus cavities in my cheek bones… so it’s been impossible to find! I’ll check out your Pillars of Singing later today. I’m the type of person who needs more info to lead me to connect the physical with the brain 🧠 activity… my whole system needs the learning, then my awareness is rooted in me. Thanks for this great intro video!
Excellent video. Do you have to impose your larynx forward to get into cry mode?

I have a question, I dont sing very often but quite often when i am trying to lean a new song i feel like am am starting to cry. Am i entering cry mode accidentally? The songs aren't sad or anything but feel as if im about to cry. Ia it a matter of just singing through this?
@Thevocaliststudio11 ай бұрын
Great question. Honestly, I think there is a very good chance that you are unknowingly, engaging cry mode. If you think/feel you are, there is a high probability that you are, at least in some small way. I encourage you to get in touch with this feeling by being mindful of it. Notice it. Feel it, get to know the sound color of it, and practice holding that position as you sing. Important tip, the higher you go, the harder you cry. Great Job! It sounds like you are already on the journey to getting to the point of "command and control" of cry mode! We have a special deal going right now. I wonder if cry mode is what is called curbing in CVT 🤔
@Thevocaliststudio3 ай бұрын
Hello, no. I am very familiar with CVT, have studied and admire a lot about what they do. Our Acoustic Modes at TVS are partially inspired by the CVT modes. Anyway, Curbing is not the same as cry mode. The CVT modes are mostly resonance placement techniques, and the Cry Vocal Mode is a vocal fold mechanism configuration. More kin to the EVTS modes. Hope this helps. Thanks for your positive comment! I'm dedicated to supporting singers. Leave a positive comment and get discounts on courses. So,is cry mode only used for high notes? Is their a difference between singing “normal” versus in “cry mode” and does Cry mode help when it’s not high notes?

@@Thevocaliststudio I've been considering it for a while to supplement my in person vocal lessons. I think I am slowly starting to understand how it's suppose to feel when coaches describe various techniques. However, I am still not 100% clear on various things and misinterpretation has made me develop various bad habits in my journey. What is the best way to consume your information because I notice that you use alot of technicality and it's a bit hard to swallow properly myself

@Thevocaliststudio2 жыл бұрын
That's really great, but its not? I'm confused. I am a teacher. I am going to teach this concept, not only demonstrate it. If I don't explain what the hell it IS, you will not be able to do it or appreciate why it is important. If you don't want to learn more and want the easy way, fast forward. Coach

I’m 4 freakin minutes into your 8 min video and you still haven’t even demonstrated what you’re talking about. 5 minutes ago is the first time I’ve ever even heard of this and I’m not sure I want to invest another 4 minutes of listening to you talk about it.
@Thevocaliststudio Жыл бұрын
Oh no! 4 minutes?! You mean, you had to view me teaching you about this important technique so you can sing better THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, for 4 minutes before I demonstrated it? That is just outrageous. Run my name and type in "Cry Mode", you will find about 10 of these. Maybe there is another one that will get to the demonstration in 2 minutes. Sorry to inconvenience you.
@bigl6322 Жыл бұрын
@@Thevocaliststudio you were the 3rd video in a row that did that. I never heard “cry” vocals as a term. I had no idea if I even wanted to learn it cause I still didn’t know what the hell it was. And frankly, still don’t as between a dozen minutes, no one ever showed me anything that clarified anything. I got no problem investing time learning the things I want to, I just need to know what the hell it is. The guitar and drum videos I tend to follow start with a demo, so that you know if your even going down a path you want to, then they break it down. sorry if I sounded like an ass, I was frustrated at that point. mebbe if you lead with a demo…. You know “here’s what I’m gonna teach you” type thing, you’ll get more people 4 minutes into your video that actually want to be there. Hard to follow the teaching, when you don’t start with an understanding of what you’re learning. Be well
