As a hardcore simmer of DCS since 2016, I warn anyone who wants to enter this black hole created by Eagle Dynamics. You will invest piles of money and time, which may not be worth it unless you have tons of those most important resources. ED is the most horribly chaotic developer in the gaming industry. Be very careful about it! I have invested a lot of money in numerous hardware upgrades, and I own almost all the aircraft, maps, and campaigns in the ED shop. Be very, very careful!
@ashitaka74
@ashitaka74 29 күн бұрын
So don't be like me? Don't spend your money in the game I love so much that I decided to invest so much money in? Besides not agreeing with your opinion of ED, I find your message very confusing; I don't know if you're being ironic or talking seriously.
@LeggyDogg
@LeggyDogg 26 күн бұрын
@@ashitaka74 I think they mean that if behaviour of ED in 2024 was anything to go by, you could invest a lot of time and money into a company that ultimately might pull the rug out from under you at any moment :P A chaotic company can make a cool and interesting product but you can still acknowledge their limitations and things they do badly. Nowhere else can you fly so many different planes with such detail, but that's also a problem because if you don't like the way ED do things, you basically have no other option to get a similar experience besides falcon BMS for f-16 or f-15C

Been playing for 4 years now and I still remember the time I got my first A-G kill in the SU-25T with my PS4 controller after watching Tuuvas's SU-25T controller guide because I couldn't afford equipment to start back then. That was one of the best feelings ever and I'm glad I got hooked ever since then. This tutorial was really well made man, this is some great stuff for new players looking to get into DCS. Outstanding summary, the best I've ever seen! What I also love about DCS is that it covers a massive time period. You can fly WW2 warbirds, Korean war, Cold war jets, or 80s-90s modern air combat, all within the same sandbox.

Exactly what the community needs to pull in the new players, I think it is great to highlight it is only 60$ USD to be playing 11 aircraft on multiplayer servers. Most titles push $75 or more for a new game and in game purchases are crazy expensive. Super idea of a series looking forward to it!

Friends with the guys at AWG. Been flying DCS since 2020. It has advanced greatly. Many of us have invested thousands of dollars in the combat simulation. Most lose interest because it's treated as a game, not a combat simulation. I invested in new HOTAS system, rudder pedals, and flight seat. Built my own system in the summer of 2023. I enjoy the enhancements with DCS, even though we always get frustrated, we enjoy it.

Having started with F15C and Su25T and jumped to the uh1/a10/f16/18/ah64 (soon tobe f15e)modules let me tell you this game will drag you down the rabbithole. I am not the guy to learn easily but with all the guide out there and people to teach you while flying it has been a breeze. The past 10 months i gathered way to many hours on dcs. And learned way more i did in school back in day. Make time and you'll fly full fidelity modules in a few weeks time dripping warheads on foreheads with ease. DCS is a game you will not regret spending money on.

One more thing I think you should mention, and that is the spec requirements of your computer. That can lead to a LOT of money so that it works as well as it looks on this video. A lot of valid points, but you do need a pretty powerful machine to run DCS. Trial it before you buy anything, and then decide how much you want to spend on a gaming computer.

I am slowly learning the Vipers, but what I still struggle with, is DCS itself. I mean just setting up a mission for myself to practice what I've just learnt through either the DCS Viper Early Access Guide, Chucks manuals, or your videos is seriously a task!

Excellent video! The only thing I would have insisted on more is making them understand how much the $80 they spend will bring them in terms of hours of fun. People pay 80 bucks for games that give them a couple of dozen hours gaming. I've juiced thousands of hours from every module I've bought and there are probably thousands more to come! If you take your birds seriously and you want to really learn them, the fun is incredibly long.

Been flying DCS for about 6 years now. Very good vid! I am a simulator guy, so I fly full-fidelity models. When you learn the knowledge that it takes to kick the tires and light the fires, two words will scream in your head: Bragging Rights! :) I fly the hornet mostly, because adding the supercarrier module CRANKS UP the reality of Naval operations when operating off the carrier. That said, my first purchase was Flaming Cliffs - so many different aircraft to fly and learn what you like.

Just downloaded DCS today. A few years ago, I REALLY liked planes. About when Top Gun: Maverick came out (great movie by the way), and I said “Hey, someone probably made a game about planes sometime.” Turns out, it was a lot more than just someone. In my search through the sea of games about military flight, I saw a video called “Idiots learn DCS”. I watched it. It was the wildest thing that my 11 year old brain could comprehend. I spent hours watching DCS videos because I had a suboptimal, to say the least, PC and had never heard of a HOTAS before. I was also scared of commitment and the 5 hours downloading plus the 70 dollars for the Hornet sounded quite like commitment. I ended up playing AC7, which me and my dad got for the ps4 in the times of the Ice Age. Seriously, that disk was ancient. 2-3 (I’ve lost count now.) years later, I find myself kidnapping my mom’s computer because mine is STILL incapable of running most Roblox games past 30 fps on high graphics (new computer feb 15 for my birthday hooray!! hopefully a thrustmaster t16000m too, but idk :p) (before you call me spoiled, it’s mostly my money, zip it), plugging in my Logitech Xtreme 3D Pro or whatever it’s called from my short-lived MSFS days, and downloading DCS (but not before asking if I could get the hornet, which I did.) and finally facing my fears. And by fears, I mean the 784 page manual. Reading is my worst enemy. I have no idea what an HMD is or how to tune it, I can barely start the plane without forgetting some crucial step, and the only kills I have are from the AA tutorials. I can confidently say, it is the greatest experience I’ve ever had.

I've got addicted and bought almost all modules, but in the end it usually boils down to only 2-3 planes on 3-4 maps i fly regularly. For me that's the F/A-18, for multirole, the P-47 for WWII stuff and the Mirage F1as my personal odd ball challenge. For the terrain it's mostly Caucasus and Marianas, Syria and Normandy where i fly.

As much as we love DCS, it’s easy to forget how inaccessible it is for newcomers. Make sure you continue to highlight how good campaigns are because most of the online community (Hoggit) are very multiplayer biased, and incredibly useless when it comes to singleplayer. Also, be sure everyone knows that contrary to popular belief, DCS is really not overpriced or expensive at all. A FF aircraft, map and campaign (on sale) is the same price as a AAA game, and ED have sales constantly. Anyway, thank you, this is perfect and I wish it existed years ago. Amazing work as always, welcome back and happy new year BD!

Bogey Dope, please use your influence in the community to help get this resolved.

I hear ya @dueydrew and you should always hope for the best in this situation, but prepare yourself for the worst. Have you looked at the conditions in your ELUA on exactly what your license to access DCS and any of its modules? Just like the HAWK 1A by VEAO (not VNAO) a dispute between the developer and third-party providers, could cause a module to go away or in this case many of them. Basically your ELUA states that you have a license to access the software as long as the company provides it.

I think the biggest issue with DCS is the community itself, there are too many “individuals” out there who are really hard pressed in the armchair warrior role and continue to perpetuate bold claims about how accurate DCS is to real world. What are some servers that have realistic ATC and procedures?
@BogeyDope
@BogeyDope 29 күн бұрын
Almost all of the realistic ones are password protected to keep people out that shouldn't be there. Private groups run them. So the easiest way to get on one is to find a private group. A big one is DCS Red Flag. They run a massive mission about 4 times a year and it is fully controlled by Human ATC and Human AWACS. They only accept full units, not single lone wolfs. So if you have a group you are flying with, you could sign your group up and get on the list. You wouldn't be able to join by yourself. Other than that, private groups are the way to go!

I bought flaming cliffs and tried DCS last year, but felt like I was just kinda lost when it came to finding content to do. Most of the campaigns for things like the SU27 are pretty much broken since they were made on such earlier versions of the game. I like the idea of the sim but it really seems like you gotta make your own fun and either play multiplayer a lot, which I'm not always that interested in, or master the mission editor which is just incredibly tiresome. Despite falcon BMS being even less accessible, I've found it's got a lot more game in it out of the box with its dynamic campaigns. Not sure if I'm just approaching DCS wrong or something.

@@1Kapiii Not that I'm aware, but I will be making a tutorial soon on that in this series. Depending on the server, if they are using SRS (Simple Radio Standalone), you can look up tutorials on it. Or if the server is using the built in radio, Matt Wagner goes over this in his video here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmLamKKQgZmShZI
