I thought that's just how people are. I didn't realize for the longest time that demi-sexuality isn't the norm for most people. It just seems only natural to me to only fall for someone you have a real connection to. Anything else just seems odd.

Demisexuality is not just being picky, having standards, or choosing to be abstinent. It is not experiencing attraction until an emotional bond is formed. For example, demisexuals don’t see someone in public or see a celebrity and think “I’d have sex with them”, whereas another person might. It is a label some people use to help them realize they’re not weird or alone. If you don’t want a label, that’s perfectly fine, but some people feel better with one.

Savage 21 if you’ve every experienced love at first sight or if you’ve ever been attracted to someone after a week of slightly knowing them, you might not be demisexual. with demisexuals it can take months of talking to somebody for there to be a chance of being attracted to them.

For me personally I've only been sexually attracted to one person in my life. (My ex) I've felt pressured by friends to talk with girls and put myself out there, but it doesn't feel organic just forced. I can see the beauty in a woman and find her attractive, but that is definitely not enough to want to have sexual relations. I have to know the person I have to feel connected on a mental, physical, and spiritual level. It's not as simple as "wow you're hot let's fuck." People (especially other men) act like men have to have this mentality of a predator, When in reality I just want to fall in love.

Knowing what demisexual means shed so much light on my personal life. I had never known why I felt the way I did my whole life. Since so many people talked about “wanting to have sex with a famous person”; I’m mentioning this that I’ve had so many celebrity crushes but never really understood the over sexualization of them in fanfics. I just wanted to get to know them so much and once I felt a sort of bond with that artist (let’s say I figured we have a lot in common after watching a bunch of their interviews) I would start understanding it better.

I am actually demisexual and it's been really hard figuring that out. I always feel like something is wrong with me and that I need to initiate sexual stuff when I actually really don't want to. My ex and I began a very happy relationship after getting to know each other for TWO years lol. I can't do things within a month of knowing someone. I can't. I used to think demisexualism was "just another made-up sexuality" but it really isn't. I have only experienced immediate sexual attraction to like three guys in my entire life (and I'm also bi so that just adds onto the complexity lol). It's okay to not want to be intimate right away. The right person will love you beyond your body and what you have to offer sexually or romantically. You may just be friends. But the build-up is far more meaningful than the end result, whatever that may be.

I'm a demisexual. Since I was a kid, I didn't understand the concept of seeing someone as beautiful or handsome in terms of attraction. Everyone just seemed "ehhh they're okay" to me which my friends found odd. Meanwhile, I find it weird how people easily get "crushes" on certain people by just looking at them. I've only had 4 crushes in my life (excluding celebrities/2D characters but in an artistic perspective and not sexual) and all those had to do with a "bond." Which this spectrum specifically tackles. While I don't have crushes anymore now that I'm older and more aware after realising my sexuality last year, it makes me happy that this concept was discovered :) it really helps to understand yourself and make other people understand your point of view.

It was recently I came to the conclusion that I am demisexual. I won't get into too much detail about how I came to it, but it was a "Something good came from something bad" type of experience. What being demi means to me is partly saving myself for the one God has planned for me, but also the appeal of marrying my best friend. Like, I date my friend to find a husband.

I am a man and have suffered as a Demisexual until recently I found this word and made sense in a lot of areas of my flaws and shortcomings..I blew a lot of my love life because of the timing of things in the friendship/relationship.Either I found the person that I connected attractive,but they didn't felt or saw anything special of our conversation or interaction or we open to deep that the person only saw me as a friend.Eventually it would take months or years to meet another person that I bond deep mutually and have a lot of things in common.But i guess i get too comfortable and didn't make a fast move that the person didn't think much of our connection..I too didn't reciprocate attention from women that showed me a lot of interest at first because I didn't saw them attractive right away or bond in any way.

I hear a lot of people say "Isn't that normal" No Shit, it's normal to get to know someone before sex but with Demi-Sexuality it's NOT a choice, but a requirement to form a deeper bond before I become sexually attracted to you. So if Taylor Swift or Halle Bary knocks on your door and asks "Would you like to have sex?" and you're down for it, Your're likely not a Demi-sexual.

'It's not fair to someone who's wants to date me' to be friends first?? Why on earth not? Its a very, very recent expectation that someone will be willing for fall into bed in the first few dates. There's nothing unusual about needing to establish a relationship and trust before attraction occurs. That's quite natural! I don't know why a term is needed for this and it surely does not relate to being asexual.

It actually does relate to asexuality because a demisexual person is fundamentally asexual UNTIL they have formed a close emotional bond. @NinjaKittkatt 3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to carry the label if you don't want to. I've also realized I'm demisexual, but I don't really care to label myself as such. Using your sexuality as a label to me feels a bit like turning your sexuality into your personality. However, I use the knowledge that I'm demisexual as a way to prepare myself for a relationship. Understanding that I think of attraction differently than most people helps me understand the way I'm presenting myself to a potential friend or partner. I have to keep in mind that even though I'm not sexually attracted to someone I find aesthetically attractive, they probably find me sexually attractive and therefore might misunderstand my actions towards them as showing sexual interest. People do feel sexual attraction to various extents, not every non-ace person immediately wants to have sex with every person they're attracted to (but some do, those are hyper-sexual people) but the key difference is that with an ace-spectrum person there's a bit of a disconnect between sexual desire and attraction. You might be having a great time hanging out with someone and not even realize the whole time they've been imagining kissing you. You might not notice that strangers are checking you out. Being demisexual means you're basically asexual UNTIL you've formed a strong emotional bond with a person and then you MIGHT have sexual attraction to them. Summary: To an ace-spectrum person romantic attraction, sexual attraction, and aesthetic attraction are all different concepts. To non-ace people those attractions are all one of the same.

Okay...I identify as being Demi, but I’m still so confused, somehow. As in, I wouldn’t mind going on fun loose dates or getting in a consensual, no strings attached fun relationship. Mainly because I know I won’t fall for said person, nor become interested...it takes years to develop a crush (and therefore sexual feelings) towards any specific person. The confusing thing, is that I feel as though my attitude sort of counteracts what demisexuality is. Anyone going through something similar? Thoughts on this?
@CaribbeanCitizen
@CaribbeanCitizen 2 жыл бұрын
You might identify more as Demiromantic than demisexual. If you're familiar with the terms Aromantic and Asexual then that helps as a starting point. Basically, it takes a strong connection for you to feel any romantic attraction but you might experience sexual attraction. Alternatively, you could still be Demisexual, but you like how sex feels and that's valid too. Demisexuality didn't really dictate how strong your libido is, so even if you're not sexually attracted to someone if you still want to have sex, I can see why you might choose to enter into a casual relationship for the feeling of sex. I hope this helps.

I have a question. Two years ago i saw my old good friend (that i haven't seen for 4 years) on a basketball match between schools, i didn't recognized her at first but when i did my body started freaking out: My heart was beating really fast, i got anxious, and i wanted to be with her (i think it was sexual attraction). My body never reacted like that, before that the only type of attraction i felt was sensual or romantic. I thought sexual attraction was looking at someone with sexy looking body parts and thinking they look good (maybe fantasize a bit, even so i don't think about it that much). When i look at attractive strangers, i think they look hot but i don't wanna get with them? Can anybody explain what is sexual attraction? Also the person that my heart was beating for was a friend, i never thought of her as a romantic/sexual partner before, i only saw them as a good friend before seeing her again.... Sexuality can be really confusing. Edit: also sorry for my bad grammar, i'm not a native speaker.

Idk it sounds like intense romantic attraction to me. I probably shouldn't be the one to answer (as an asexual) I'm pretty sure I felt it once, and for me it was more like sex wasn't even the thing I was thinking about. The feeling wasn't "I want sex" my thought were more along the lines "this person looks like feel-good" it was definitely distinct from "I want this person around me because they make my heart pitter patter."

I'm just discovering this term after years of struggling with my sexuality. I have had sex with two people, both long-term partners whom I loved, but I have had many potential sexual partners that did not work out because I couldn't get interested in them without deep emotional bond. I am straight, but many people suggested that I am gay when I described my sexuality, however I know that I am not interested in the same sex. I am only interested in intercourse with the opposite sex, but only after I have developed strong feelings. So glad to know that I am not alone or defective.

so basically it's form of asexuality - in which emotional bounding ultimately prevails in sexual attraction, or is just devoid of sexuality altogether?

Not wanting to do those types of things are usually considered aromantic, which is a different subsection. There are different types of romantic attraction too. Sexual attraction = desiring sex with someone, aesthetic attraction = appreciating someone's visual appearance but not necessarily wanting sex with them, and romantic attraction = wanting a relationship with someone. Aromantic means to not want a romantic relationship with someone, which is often confused for asexuality. However, someone can be asexual and romantic, OR asexual and aromantic.

Can I ask why does a lot of internet sources say that demisexuals could experience sexual attraction often? I’m a transgender male that hasn’t gone through my operation yet & I’m talking to a demisexual woman right now & don’t want to fuck things up

I am demisexual but I only recently discovered the term. It can be a curse as well as a blessing. Demisexuality creates artificial scarcity in relationship options and we are much more likely to suffer over possessive attachment styles or develop unrequited loves. People we feel attracted to always feel rare and unique to us.

This explains why I’ve had no problem remaining abstinent for so long. Not solely because I choose to- I just don’t be liking people lol so the urge is never there. Truly very interesting. Hmm let me research further.

I feel like (and speaking as a demi), that many people who aren't demi or on the spectrum will identify with this due to our modern day hookup culture and those who aren't into that may feel they are demi. At least that's how I discovered this. I don't think about banging people or want to bang strangers. If the person is attractive/my type, I would think more romantic things, not sexual. Is this demi..? any thoughts?

I have a question!! Let's say I see this person and I think "oh they're hot" or "they're cute" but I dont necessarily want to have sex with them, does that make me Demisexual? I seem to relate to every thing else here, but I want to make sure I completely understand before I can say i get it. Just trying to understand, thanks!

I think i consider myself demisexual and I also think people are attractive. That's called aesthetic attraction though. The difference is that just because I think someone is attractive it doesn't mean I want to have sex with them. The key point of a demisexual is that you're fundamentally asexual (meaning you just don't care for or desire sex) UNTIL you've formed a close bond with someone. That's actually not a normal thing and it took me 26 years to learn that most people feel sexual attraction simultaneously with aesthetic attraction, but for demisexuals those things are 2 different concepts.

That's called aesthetic attraction, which is different than romantic attraction and also different from sexual attraction. Most people think those things are one of the same, but they're actually 3 different types of attraction. You're aesthetically attracted to women, but romantically and sexually attracted to men. That isn't really demisexuality as that has to do with whether or not you WANT to have sex, but it's worth recognizing that attraction is different than sexuality.

I used to use all these special snowflake terms for my sexuality. But I have found that sometimes, there just is no term for it, also because it varies and changes a lot over time. Now, I am just me and my sexuality is my sexuality. I am not heterosexual, nor bisexual, pansexual, asexual or demisexual. I am a human being with all kinds of varying feelings to all kinds of varying situations and persons. There is no term that could ever descibe the complexity of my feelings, and there will never be one, ever.
