This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Desire manifests itself as images in the mind that one is drawn to. A want for the perpetuation of the longing for something that is imagined. Where there is desire there is no presence and with presence there is no desire. This is because with presence you experience what is and with desire you imagine what you want on top of what is. It is a veil over what is.

My question why we desire something and not the other thing... Does the inherited and acquired personality and character come into play?
@SpeaktheTruths

@@sampaite3370 if there is a "me", "I" and "my" that can desire then what is desired will perpetuate the illusion of "me", "I" and "my". "I" desire food because it keeps "me" alive or "I" want to live because "I" am afraid of death. "I" want a relationship because it will make "me" happy. People desire what will support the "I", "me" and the "my" because there is an identification with a sufferer, one who is lacking. A victim of the world. If one feels they are lacking "they" will desire fulfillment in the acquirement of a temporary comfort because of a perpetuatal state of fear and insecurity which is unhappiness, this is the work of the so-called ego which is really a false identity which doesn't exist. An illusion. "I" want to get "my" car repainted because being in a freshly painted care makes "me" look better in it. If "I" got a job "I" would have a better chance of getting a girlfriend.

@@sampaite3370 I guess from here the key question is “Who Am I” for then we will see who is projecting a desire onto reality….

It’s clear where your level of understanding was when you posted your comment. You couldn’t have said it any louder than you did, I praise your eloquence. It could be said that one could find great value in returning to their posted comments after a year to see how they feel about them.

I have a desire to write a comment on this and the comment to be noted. The hidden desire is, "I want to be noted" by others. It is the same human desire flowering in a different perspective. We can not take each desire separately & deal with it to eliminate same. To be noted in our every day life is not futile. It has its own benefits in our mundane life. But psychologiclly it may be harmful & has no value. I think the root cause of human desire is, "seeking". Human brain is "seeking" constantly & eternally. The habit of seeking is as old as the human civilization. Unless we stop seeking, no end to desire. But unless we cultivate "seeking", there is no growth or developments of our mundane life. In 1800 we had very basic of a motor car. But today we have the most sophisticated cars & we are "seeking" to develop more. So what do we really want ? I think its the insight into human desire will only give us the benefit of having desire & eliminating same.

It is worth watching the full talk. The link is given in a reply to a request in one of the comments here. If you can discover the Art of Listening, the Art of Seeing and the Art of Learning - then these Arts bring Clarity and Order. ART means - - Putting Everything in its Right Place - Where it Belongs. When Everything is in its Right Place then there comes Clarity. Clarity is not born of Logic, Reason or Objective Thinking. But we must have Clarity to Act Wholly, to act Completely. Action based on Skills leads to fragmentary action. Our Education, Environment etc teaches us to develop particular Skills. These skills give us a sense of power but the action based on these skills is always very limited. The structure of the Ego / The Self, is built upon these Skills. First we need Clarity. After we have Clarity we can act skillfully. But Being Skillful first does not bring Clarity. The Arts of Listening, Seeing and Learning do not have Ulterior Motives. So when SEEING (Observing without the Observer) - Pleasure or Desire, there is no Seer, no Listener, no Learner, to generate Thoughts that want to Possess the pleasureable or desireable experience. The pleasureable experience is Experienced and Life Moves On. The Experience is not put into Rememberance so as to come back later and Repeat.

This is what the Buddha meant by cutting off karma before it begins. Karma IS our memory mixed with the sensation of intention.... Desire/ I want/I wish... is very much karma.

Do we desire to know where desire comes from? Do we desire to think, just about this? Knowing where desire comes from is the same as knowing where our thoughts come from.
@SpeaktheTruths

The origin of desire is the designation of "I" the identity, what it is and who it is that desires. When the illusion of "I" is realized there is nobody to desire. Thoughts come from a thinker and without a thinker there is nobody to think. Like this example Baker baked bread. The Baker of the bread has to exist or else the bread would not. The bread has to exist to verify the existence of a baker. No bread no baker. No baker no bread. If the illusion of separation is realized it is obvious that the baker and the bread are the same in this way.

Funny how pleasure is a mechanical process. Pleasure is usually associated with wildness and spontaneity. In a 🌎 where artificial intelligence is growing, what is left of human desire? Luckily, observation in and of itself is an act of love. One that is not a system which grows exponentially and halts all attempts at its destruction.

Two big categories would be biological desire and non biological desire, as part animal we are caught in an endless cycle of smaller desires. Here in we are not the big actor, nature uses you for its destiny and harmony. Non biological desire is not over powering, there is a kind of non animal volition that may lead to a grand fruition and fulfillment, many non biological desires are far too fictional, we are consumed by fiction than feeling a real.

You will get more context if you listen to the whole talk. There is a link in one of the comments. Developing the Art of Listening and Seeing (Observation) and Learning, is essential to understanding Pleasure and Desire. Listening and Seeing (Observing) and Learning happen when the Self is not interfering, with its opinions and knowledge. Just that dynamic alone is a 'step back' from indulging in pleasure and desire. The emphasis is on observation not on titillation. The Arts of Seeing (observation) and Listening and Learning require restraint - they just do. You can't thread a needle if you are trying to use it at the same time. With regards to actually touching a beautiful woman, that requires you to know that the woman is operating with the same Artistry as you.
