Fellow Devcomm grad here. Graduated in 2013 and I worked in an LGU for 4 yrs. Now I’m making a career change for growth. I wanna utilize my being devcomm in another area. I feel like I’ve forgotten the essence of being a devcomm somehow because my nature of my job was different. Haha so thanks for your informative and cute presentation of the basics of Devcomm. 😊

Hello...I really need your help...im pursuing dev comm as a major...i just wanna know which direction I'm heading and what short courses to take so that I get a step a head...kindly
@kelmalazarte3 жыл бұрын
Highly considering taking up the same course in UPOU as well. Aside from I'm a person with different advocacies, I just feel that with the current work I have in an NGO and also as a freelance photojournalist, this will help me nurture. I can understand articulate pieces or writings but if I'll be the one doing that, I am really having a hard time. Does someone with average/below average skills in writing can survive this course? I am more into multimedia (photograph, graphic designing, and a bit of video editing).
@maomacatangay3 жыл бұрын
Hi JM! I always believe that you can be good at something if you try your best. I think just the fact that you're a reader will help you if you ever choose to take DevCom. I would say that you would survive the course with average writing skills. I could always rely on my classmates to bounce ideas off, not to mention the professors were really helpful and interactive. I definitely think you should pursue it! If you feel a bit scared to take this on, that's a good thing! Being a bit scared means you're onto something good 😊

Is it possible for an Education Student major in English to take DevComm. for Master's Degree? Thanks for the response.
@maomacatangay3 жыл бұрын
I don't see why not
@brydenkim3 жыл бұрын
It is possible. there are individuals who are taking devcom courses even their professional backgrounds are from education, information technology, criminology, and etc. as long as you have the sincerity, passion, and motivation to use communication as your tool for planned social change.

The major subject ~is~ development communication. Under it, there are subjects like photography, science communication, print and broadcast media, communication in the ASEAN context, research, and more

Hello. I have questions po. I hope youll be able to see this. Do you need to be really good in english if youll venture devcom? And does devcomm and mascomm have the same job opportunities? Also do you need to have a camera for photography purposes or not? Thank u so much!
@maomacatangay4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Being good at English isn't a requirement but it definitely helps. Development communication is very theoretical so you need to have a good grasp of the language so that it'll be easier to understand and absorb the lessons. Mass communication and development communication are different. Mass comm has more to do with mainstream media where as Dev Comm is more on the development side. Dev Comm is guided by the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN and the ultimate goal is to see these targets in a more local setting. This means you will have different job opportunities. I am currently working in international development, specifically in achieving SDG Targets 3.6 and 11.2 and my background in dev comm has helped me tremendously. Mass comm is also great but it would do more with breaking into networks, stations, and other forms of mainstream media. Finally, I don't think you need a camera haha I didn't have one in my bachelor's degree and I don't have one now 😅 It depends on which aspect of dev comm you want to focus on. I'm working more on writing, communicating, and design. Hope this helps!

Hello po. Just wanna know if devcomm is good for pre law course?
@maomacatangay3 жыл бұрын
I think so! I don't really have much experience with law - I think if you want to get a better idea, you should go with political science. But I would say that development communication is also really good - it gives you an idea of how you can communicate information and how you can connect best with others
@nursingaficionado40274 жыл бұрын
Does the course revolve on communication through writing or speaking po?
@maomacatangay4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes it does! Development communication is guided by the sustainable development goals set by the UN. The goal is to communicate these clearly so that more people understand it. You can write, speak, create videos, use photos, or anything at all! As devcomm students, we are trained to communicate well whatever the medium 😊
@nursingaficionado40274 жыл бұрын
@@maomacatangay I love speaking so I'm considering this course, thank you for the insights 🤗
@maomacatangay4 жыл бұрын
@@nursingaficionado4027 you can go into something more specific if you prefer speaking - something like broadcasting (although definitely my elements sya ng writing) 😊 I wish you lots of luck! Any communication course is loads of fun!
