I think the point was to communicate with what’s app type connectivity but with out the distractions that a cell phone connect to the internet brings like you tube and stuff .

We used Echolink on our local 2meter repeater several years ago... Mobile hams with 2meter HT's or 2meter mobile radio's in their vehicles driving around here in East Ky and Wv in qso with hams driving the streets of England .. or any other country or state world wide that we wanted to link into. DMR sounds about the same as what we did here locally with our repeaters. 73 WR8D

Yes, I was thinking exactly the same thing I have the EchoLink app on my phone and I can pretty much talk to anyone in my car driving to work and I don't even need a radio
