In the Netherlands, we tend to sell colored carrots (mixed bundles) in the fall/winter, because of the earthy colors it fits well with cold-weather dishes.

This is truly fucking amazing! I came into this video thinking the answer had to do with the color orange in a way that sport cities/regions have team colors associated with them. I had no idea an actual King Orange existed and was influencing the color scheme. And in california, I can still get all those other colored carrots at farmers markets, but to think that every orange carrot I've ever eaten came from Dutch meddling = mind blown!!

You can buy so-called 'forgotten' vegetables at supermarkets and green grocers, mainly carrots, like Pastinaak (parsnip), Schorseneer (salsify) and Mierikswortel (horseradish). Taste is different, but you can essentially prepare the first two as you would the orange carrots. Mierikswortel is a little different. And easily my favourite! The Danes call this vegetables 'pepperroot'. I'll let you figure out why, if you want

Yellow, purple, white and red carrots are still a thing. Landrace, variety, heirloom and genetics are something your should read up on. William can't change the colour of a vegetable, he can choose which one he would like to grow in his dirt. It is most likely a happy accident from planting red oxhearts next to a variety of yellow wild. The texture of soil plays a huge part in what the carrot will do. Now Monks for sometime had been using punnet squares to improve vegetables aspects. Nevertheless: A Market Scene by Pieter Aertsen,1569 (oil on panel; H 835 mm W 1,695 mm; located in Hallwyl Museum, Sweden) This shows the range of carrots available in Holland in the mid 1500's - ORANGE, white and purple varieties are clearly shown.

They are definitively less common, often sold on farmers markets as 'forgotten vegetables', in the supermarkets you won't see them very often. Perhaps during Christmas, when more people like to cook, and like to cook something special, but during the year, supply just isn't big enough.

Elisa Bird it’s unlikely that the restrictions will be lifted this month. On april 21th the Dutch government will asses if some of the restrictions can be lifted. However these are unlikely to include the restrictions on tourism. Missing out on a vacation should be the least of our concerns in a time like this though.
