What is Fermentation (Anaerobic Respiration)?

Fermentation, also known as anaerobic respiration, is the type of cellular respiration that occurs without oxygen. It is far less efficient than aerobic respiration and usually only occurs when oxygen levels are depleted. There are two different processes of fermentation. In plants and yeasts glucose is broken down to produce ethanol and carbon dioxide and release energy. In animals glucose is broken down to produce lactic acid and release energy. See the video for the full chemical equations for each process. The energy released from fermentation is used to fuel the ATP cycle which then provides energy for the cells work. Really excellent videos. That goes for the dozen or so of your videos I've watched since i found your channel last night. I've been watching videos on the subject for about a year now. But your videos some how sink in way better than any thing else I've watched. THANKS!

Anaerobic respiration is completed a lot like aerobic respiration because it uses a carrier chain the same as aerobics electron transport chain. The big difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration is the O2 as the final electron acceptor. Fermentation is not the same thing as anaerobic respiration.

Fermentation is NOT anaerobic respiration!! Anaerobic Respiration uses the ETC but Fermentation does not. Also Fermentation does not use oxidative phosphorylation.

Andrea Bauers Isn't the Electron Transport Chain the same thing as Oxidative Phosporilation? And also, isn't the ETC an aerobic process anyway? How can it be anaerobic but use oxygen for the ETC?

My question is, after running or working we drink normal glucose for energy that means the process is fermentation? If fermentation that means drinking alcohol? pls make clear . the 2nd question is in fermentation process glucose break down without any external force? pls explain which will be helpful. thanks

How can fermentation possibly occur in plants? Can plants run out of carbon dioxide or oxygen?

My Question is, What triggers the Glucose fermentation? There should be some external force or energy which causes the breaking down of glucose. What it is?

Hi can I ask you? Why are methods of anaerobic respiration, such as fermentation, less efficient than aerobic respiration?
