Hey I’m really interested And was wondering if u can you give me a well explained definition of what forensic psychology is I don’t get it very well
@juanarocha86293 жыл бұрын
@@samt6840 its psychology in the legal system, but we mainly work with the defendants/prisoners all the way from court to the actual penitentiary centre In court, we look at the people who form part of the Jury, mediation and we can also work as Expert Witnesses, however Barristers prefer to have clinical psychologists for this. In prison we combine forensic and psychological knowledge to develop and apply therapies to treat offender so they become rehabilitated and successfully reinserted into society, and be able to serve sentences in a healthy manner. So imagine you're treating a young kid who misbehaved badly, except that young kid can often be an adult. Its not CSI, Criminal Minds type of stuff where the psychologist goes out in the field, and catches criminals, if you wanna do that you might as well study criminology and join the police. Also remember these are people who committed crimes, in other words heavy stuff, you need to have thick skin and a strong stomach when looking at cases and if someone turns hostile due to poor raport. Hope this helped

I studied half of my BCS in regular clinical psychology and took a step back because I needed to think about what I'll specialise in. I think I know now! I'd love to work with victims and with offenders, or people who are both (as people frequently are). I have a strong background and understanding within crime, DV, SA, I'm from a council estate where half of my neighbours are in gangs, or are active criminals. I know people and I know how nuanced life and humans are, I really feel that the forensic side is suited to me. ❤

Soo do these people study criminals to gather evidence when being questioned for example, body language, eye contact etc or do they help criminals reform?
@tillywhitehouse58504 жыл бұрын
that’s what i’m thinking too
@camillamiti6594 жыл бұрын
both. and depends on if you’re going to be a criminal psychologist or a forensic psychologist. in particular, a forensic psychologist does both equally
@morgantaylor90723 жыл бұрын
body language is deemed a pseudoscience by a lot of psychologists. A forensic psychologist will do research into who is committing crimes, why they commit them and how do they help them to not reoffend going forward. They will do risk assessments for prison release, risk assessments for them in custody etc. Practically, they will apply their evidence from research to improve peoples lives. There will also be forensic psychologists who might lean towards cognitive psychology and maybe look at eyewitness testimony, memory in eyewitnesses etc
@laurenxf13 ай бұрын
