Update: I’ve had a few messages saying some of your full liveries (on average) are around the £550 mark, so my £650-700 number was wrong and.. ps. I’ll be moving north with immediate effect (😂 just kidding). ❤

I know of a local livery that offers full livery for £380 in Cambridgeshire - it's the cheapest I've seen by far! All the others are around £700-£800 so not sure how they are doing it!

Loving the video! I have my horse on full livery 7 days a week, and that is £150 every two weeks, which includes unlimited haylege and also includes shavings too. Owner will also lunge if needed and hold for farrier and vets 😊
@RidingWithRhi10 ай бұрын
That is incredibly cheap! It works out at £10 a day based on a 4 week month. I wonder if/how your yard owner makes any profit with that price? I don’t think I’ve ever read a price that low, even on equestrian money diaries 😱 I know yard owners who struggle to break even at the £700 a month mark 😔
@EllieN200410 ай бұрын
@@RidingWithRhi yeah it’s so so cheap! And he does an amazing job, himself, his daughter and wife take turns mucking out etc etc. I’ve always wondered how he does it for so cheap! It’s the cheapest full livery I’ve ever seen, there’s another full livery place down the road from me and that is £135per week. On my yard there is around 12-14 horses

@@RidingWithRhi best yard I’ve ever been on, there always willing you hope and rug changes, feed picked out, feeding etc Is also included. They always say they do it Help people as they know how expensive the horsey world can be, I’m very lucky!

Yard near me does full livery for £80 per week. I also how on earth they make any money. We are up north and livery tends to be a lot cheaper in general up here

Yes true, the area makes a huge difference. But as you said, I do wonder how many yards make a profit.

We have only full livery (no riding/lunging) in my country and I think we are lacking in other options because when you have bad quality hay you can’t get you own as example and sometimes it’s impossible to negotiate with a stable owner/manager.

❤ Thank you so much for sharing these informative, educational, entertaining & thought-provoking videos. I used to work with horses (at two riding schools, one which took liveries, one didn't - in London, and two in Kent, who both took liveries) but I never managed to get my own horse/horses sadly. However, I've always loved horses and have never lost interest in them ... but as a disabled pensioner (retiree) now, ny thoughts and 'dreams' re horses are all 'in my head' and lived, if I can say it that way, via videos like yours.😊❤ 🐴🐴❤️🙂🇬🇧🖖Live Long and Prosper🖖Rhi.😊🏴

This was really interesting! For me personally I wouldn’t do full livery because I like to do everything myself and don’t like the thought of YO making decisions. Think I’ve just seen horrific things on different yards with full liveries. Whatever works for you and this yard sounds totally professional! Mine live out full time in a field I rent for £240 a month for x2 fields. I have a stallion who lives with my old ex racer and what I found was people weren’t the nicest when it came to the subject of my stallion so renting a field was the peaceful option😂 just ended up moving the mares to the field as well just to get away from the drama ❤

Oh totally - the yard is SO important. For me, if I didn't have full livery, I just don't think I could make it work having a horse - I already start work at 7am and often travel abroad for my job. RE the yard, if you can't trust them, it can never work. I am precious about my horse and how he's treated, but I also did a lot of research into the yard before I moved a horse. Your set up sounds dreamy, particularly for a stallion, I can definitely see why that could be a challenge! And imagine it is a peaceful option for you

So interesting, thank you! I feel like this sort of thing is kept a complete mystery when you're just taking lessons, but breaking it down beyond just 'ownership/share' is so educational! At this point I'm still working towards simply even being ready for a 2 day share arrangement but if I can ever support having a horse I'm even more certain it would have to be something close to full livery now to have a horse but also the job to support the horse is a very tricky balance for most of us for sure!

Livery spaces in my area are severely limited, getting the horse first would be quite risky. I’m currently waiting for a DIY space to become available so paying to keep that open wouldn’t be so expensive. Then when I have the horse I can look at different livery options a bit more relaxed. I currently share a 16.1h skewbald Irish Sports horse 🐴, he’s lovely and reminds me of Woody.

As a non-equestrian I'm fascinated by in-hand pole work and other elements that go into developing and assisting a horse away from riding, like bodywork, so would be super interested in anything like that. Also when you get around to clipping Harley would love to see what he thinks of it!
@RidingWithRhi10 ай бұрын
Ooh thank you - I do have groundwork lessons with Miri - she did actually record one of our full sessions (but it is behind a paywall, on her patreon). Next time he has the physio, I'll try to record some so you can see! Same if we clip him - though we may not this year as he needs his winter woolleys being out at night and not working so hard.

Id love to be at livery, I'm always hacking alone and dealing with the spooks and scares alone 😅 no menage in the winter too is a nightmare!

Very interesting. I was extremely lucky in that we had our own land, about 7 acres, and my parents were the very hands on grooms! Dad loved mucking out etc 😂. You obviously have put a lot of thought and care into your decision about what works for you, your horse and your finance. Love seeing Harley, he's a true gentleman.

Shocked to hear £650-£700 my horse is £320 a month full livery on a estate, miles of hacking large arena and large stables😮 and £120 in the summer (April- early December)quite a difference from Scotland to England £100 a week in Scotland is expensive!
@RidingWithRhi10 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing, fascinating! £120 in the summer sounds quite similar to retirement livery set up, which makes sense if they are out 24/7 for that period. I love these convos!

I am fortunate to rent a solo use yard so I do them myself. Ive support from next door friend and access to an arena and bridleways. Previously I was at a livery yard. I couldn’t afford full or part livery for my two, just too expensive for me. Option of affording my own land and stables is beyond my means. I love doing my own and making my own decisions. But I respect that other owners need and/or prefer full livery and I don’t make any judgement. I enjoy following your videos and am pleased you have found your beautiful horse Harley 🙂.
