I was brought up a Catholc and now I am much older and hopefully a little wiser I understand the teachings of Jesus, particularly as expressed in his parables, as very much the same as the teachings of Buddhism. "The Kingdom of God is within you."
@ngocsieu7 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Diamond you are great. I am a buddist, and I found that the teaching of Jesus is very much the same as Buddha 's preach. But when I met a Catholic friend I failed to convinçe her. She insisted on believing that Jesus is the only all-powerful God, positioned higher than Buddha and any other enlightened man, and that human are guilty by nature and we can never be as good as God :(

Please, Nguyen hong ngoc, stay in touch within. You don't have to lose your joy or your serenity because someone believes something different.
@shunquan15477 жыл бұрын
He admitted it is difficult question. He then gave the answer as an observer and a seeker of God. He points the surroundings which are the creations of God. That is God seeker. Jesus said he is God. That is affirmation. Catholic/Christian is a affirmation faith. Buddhism is God seeker faith but yet reach a conclusion what God is or Who is the creator.
@elizabethdiamond21597 жыл бұрын
It is very difficult for us to say, surely, what Jesus said, believed, knew or affirmed. There is language, scripture, translations, reportage. This things are barriers to the truth. If the heart is open to the teachings of Jesus then it is possible he is speaking as one who is enlightened, Buddha conscious.
@shunquan15477 жыл бұрын
If we don't just stop at the experience but take a step further, just a little further , asking the question why these experiences and surroundings exists, we will be on one step further to find the truth.

His flexibility and humility in answering this child's question truly inspires me. This is Buddhism to me, rather than simply repeating inaccessible Buddhist philosophy. 💜
@petekanter81202 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, Greg. Although, I have to wonder why you chose to -- if I understand you completely correctly -- descibe Buddhism as an inaccessible philosophy. There's no doubt that it is a philsophy. But, to my personal experience, it's only inaccessible in the sense that so very many religions, (such as Christianity, Cathoiicism, Baptism, etc), don't make any sort of efforts to access it. The main reason being, I would think, because of a common misconception I've noticed over the past deacde's time. That being, because they pressume Buddhism dismisses God. But nothing could be further from the truth. (And, just as a final point of mention: I'd recommend any of Thich Nhat Hahn's many books.) Peace.
@JudeMalachi2 жыл бұрын
I'll agree it's more effective than teaching children about the First Noble truth, lol. I also think his answer applies to adults, it's just that few adults at Plum Villiage would dare to ask thich Nhat Hanh about God. It took a child to do that.

Every morning if you say to yourself,I wanna see God in my loved once. In my husband.in my kids or in my lover, you will only serch beautifull love in them and nothing more negative in them. Because you are serching God in them. Its like looking for most beautiful flower amongs millions of flowers. They failed to comprehend that the ONE who is aware of the Shunya- Nothingness, and is a witness to the Nothingness ( Nothing ELSE Exists or is REAL), and declares the Truth of the Shunya, is THE SELF_AWARE Pure Consciousness, the Eternal SUBJECT (not a perceived OBJECT), which Thou Art. Buddha himself was asked such a question by Brahmins and Hindus and he did not distinguish one religion or the other to be the correct path over the other. He didn’t seem concerned with one dogma or another, simply that you practice whatever you believe with a greater degree of mercy and love for self, others and all things, without resorting to anger or violence.

Apostle Paul said the same thing to the people of Athens who were not Christians but all sorts of philosophers saying we are all the offerings of God and in Him we live, move and have our being. It's just fascinating that all people regardless of time or religion if they were serious thinkers they were able to see the same things even if they used slightly different terms due to culture. Nice.

@@TheManofsorrows I wish to save you as I see that you are a serious victim since you left so many messages here. Please check these evidence especially no.1,2,3, 10,11,20 and don't miss the last that explains all: 20 IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE that proved Bible God is likely FAKE, don't miss the last paragraph that explains them all: 1) Jesus similarities with Buddha. Maya to Mary, miracle pregnancy to virgin pregnancy, birth during a journey home to from home, prophesied soon after birth, both had a disciple who betrayed them, walked on water, Gautama left the palace at age 29 and Jesus appeared at 29, Gautama became Buddha at 35 and Jesus died and resurrected at around 35 too, Buddha had a big meal while Jesus had a last supper before they died, after they passed away, 500 arahants witnessed compilation of Buddha's teachings and over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrection etc. All coincidental ? Beside Buddha, Jesus also copied from Horus and Mithra. Surely they ALL cannot be coincidental. 2) Many of the Bible's mythologies was copied from older pagans, Greek, Egyptian or Hinduism religions(note the names too) E.g. Adam & Eve from Atman and Jiva, in Hinduism, big flood and survivor Noah/3 sons same as Manu/3 sons although cause of flood is different. Even the names of Abraham and wife/sister Sarah close to Brahma and Saraswathi beside having quite similar story. Regardless of which religion copied which, it proved this god is NOT the only true god or all mighty as it doesn't makes sense to create or allow more copies or religions. 3) Why a true all mighty, all knowing and only god allowed their people to branch off and kill their parent religion Judaism ? This alone is enough proof that their God is non-existant. "Free will" as an excuse is not acceptable as earlier they claimed their God killed all people with a big flood(without freewill) because they sinned. 4) The Bible condemned non-followers, clearly mentioned in Mark's words. Why should a Creator God's religion condemn non-believers when in the first place, they claimed their God created the world? Isn't this like playing both sides of the same coin, both good and evil ? 5)Not knowing why or how the world exists don't mean that it was created by a god. Now "Creator" idea got stale, they use "Intelligent Design" What is so intelligent in its design? If people don't need to go to toilet and don't have unpleasant feelings and sufferings, then I will call it an intelligent design. 6)Wisdom and meditation are not taught by them because they know meditation can make a person's mind clearer and wiser. 7)The Bible copied very much from older religions but not the theory of karma because karma idea defeats the purpose of the mighty God trick and it will prevent people from doing bad deeds. 8) The way the church preached and claimed simply lacked substance and logic. If you ask them intelligent question, they will always be evasive and say you are not serious or an evil. 9) It don't makes sense to claim that only their believers will go to heaven and others don't since they claimed their God created all people. Such claim is an insult to other religions and cultures and caused people to divide. A good religion should be non-sectarian, secular and treat all people equally. 10) The way they collect titlings during Sunday mass is so tricky. They know people will be shy not to pay or tend to pay more when others could be watching. This is why they don't just use a stationed money box like Buddhism, Hinduism or Chinese temples where people can donate anytime. Catholics and Islam made it even bigger by suggesting donation of a certain percentage of their income. 11)Most major festivals and holidays related to Christianity are fake including Christmas(Jesus can't be born in winter), Easter, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, All Souls, Halloween and even New Year are copied from paganism. 12) A creator god claimed to be all mighty should be the first and only religion but all the pagans, Greek, Chinese, Hinduism religions existed earlier. This proved their Creator claim fake. 13) Using fear like hell or "end of the world" every 2 years but we are still here. 14) The fraud case of Mother Teresa(Google it) and after she died, those money she collected was not returned to India. 15)If their God is all-mighty, why need missionaries to convert others ? 16) The ongoing child sex abuses committed by the pastors/priests that I read so often. 17) The Bible is full of lust(Solomon's part), evil and violence. Their God killed countless people when Satan only killed a few. 18) The Bible condemned dogs because they know dogs are man's best friend. Making men lonely is the best way to keep them dependant on religion. 19) If God created everybody, why then condemn LGBT ? 20) Incidents, eg: (a) U.S., U.K, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico are all high Christianity population countries and more people died from Covid-19, over 200K Americans alone !! (b)The Air Asia plane crash of 2014 killed 41 church members, 2 missionaries and their few month old baby. Only 1 reason can tie up all 20 points above, this God was man-made to con or control people.

Even a little effort at practice, if done correctly, can bring huge rewards. Then with these results you are encouraged to continue to go deeper into the practice. The distractions will always be there. The goal is not to do the practice all the time, though that may happen with in time. The goal is the journey, at whatever level you are at. When you get distracted, a single breath if done in a mindful way, can bring great happyness. This is available at any time, to anyone, at any level of practice.

@@truth8307 well christianity has meditation(contemplation) check out Loyola techniques etc. pray is also a form of meditation, singing etc. You don’t understand Bible. The old testament are beliefs of the ancient tribes(flat earth etc.) new testament is Jesus the reformer of judaism just like Buddha the reformer of hinduism. Old Testament is like an intro before the new one. Both teachings buddhism and Christianity were expelled from the mother land. I agree lot of similarities. The ideas of hell heaven, one God , judgment day, The flood etc were invented in Persia by Zoroaster. Jews learned it during the Babylonian captivity . Zoroaster was the first messiah of monotheism. The ancient prophet just like Jesus. Islam for example recognises Zoroaster . He is older than Gautama. Nobody knows exactly when he lived can be even between 1000 -1700 BC he also like Jesus and Gautama started teaching at the age around 30. He also was teaching that the goal of humankind is be one with Asha :the truth or universal order . He invented the one God concept as a medium to deliver the massage in easy way. he started monotheism

@@Eric123456355 Buddha don't believe in Hinduism completely and that's why he got enlightened but he never betrayed Hinduism. Christianity copied Judaism after they found out their God is fake and betrayed them, even killed the Jews but karma is fair, now Islam give Christianity the same treatment.

@@Eric123456355 I believe Judaism got rid of Zoroatruism after copied from them. All 4 Abrahamic religions proved their their god is fake and a scam. Buddha was different, Buddhism never cheat anybody but filled with useful teachings which treated everybody equally.

Basically his answer is: pantheism. Its not the christian God of the Bible. That God is separate from His creation (humans fallen nature, requires sacrifice, heaven and hell is somewhere else we cannot see, has dissidents - Satan/demons) due to His own rules. From my own observations, pantheism is maybe a bit too advanced and heretical for the average christian to understand.

Sounds somewhat similar to the way Merlin explains the Dragon to Arthur in the movie Excalibur (1981): "It is everywhere. It is every thing. Its scales glisten in the bark of trees. Its roar can be heard upon the wind. And its forked tongue strikes like... like [at that moment a lightning bolt hits a tree] WHOAH! LIKE LIGHTNING! Yes, that's it." He then tells Arthur to put aside his questions, do nothing and let himself sleep. "Rest easy in the arms of the Dragon. Dream." The next morning when Arthur observes that the sword Excalibur is also part of the Dragon, Merlin compliments him on how quickly he made the connection.
