You know it would've been interesting if the New Republic/"good guys" were the dominant power while the First Order/"bad guys"was the one doing guerilla warfare hit and run attacks considering they're supposed to be a small remnant of the Empire.Instead of just being the Original Trilogy but replacing Rebellion vs Empire with Resistance vs First Order.

Regardless of how they actually get their ships, I definitely feel a few things. 1) Resistance is still outmatched against the First Order, even if they get ships who would pilot them? 2) They better explain where the ships come from in the new movie because one shouldn't have to read comics to understand how things happen between movies. The movies alone should be able to explain everything related to their story, that's good writing. It's not good writing if you need external sources to fill in your plot holes.

I think the problem is they're trying to do all forms of media at once and then tie them in together. Lucas only ever focused on the movies and the comics, books and games came in much later to fill in the gaps. It gave a much more cohesive narrative that wasn't being pulled in 20 different directions.

When you need a handbook to understand the backstory missing in a film, you've messed up. The Republic has been around for around 40 years, almost twice as long as the Empire. Even if I bought that the WHOLE fleet was at Hosnian Prime, the bureaucracy just disappeared from every member planet? There are thousands of systems in the Old Republic and one would assume that they'd be in the New Republic. The governments of every system just gave up? The First Order was a splinter group. How do they have all this military might and how does it dwarf the Republic? Where do they keep getting ships and people from? Why is the Republic so blind? I would expect the Resistance to be one little rag tag group out of the Republic Navy. The sequel trilogy does no world building. All fluff and fan service that falls flat.

@@asator0505 I think even in such a bunch of ragtag "freedom fighters" you could hardly choose to come and go as you like. Many would call it treacherous to leave the ship in such a situation without even trying to get a permission. Most armies let you not leave at free will during war just because you sneak out. And yes, Rose did use the stunner because she was told to do so, I think. Of course he was a traitor anyway, the way he butchered light-hearted his fellow former child-soldiers...

That's the problem with a lot of these new movies. In order to fully understand what's happening on screen, moviegoers are forced to read novels and comics. When a movie requires outside research to make any sense, it's a bad movie.

The prequels were contextualized by their opening crawls and established knowledge from the OT. For example, the Empire was already the dominant faction before the events of a New Hope so it stands to reason that they'd be able to Strike Back after losing a battle station. The First Order was not the dominant faction before the events of the Force Awakens and only destroyed one system along with one fleet yet somehow conquered the galaxy and tracked down the Resistance off screen after losing Starkiller Base?! HOW?!

This is the stuff that drives me nuts about Star Wars even in the originals, there's never any consequences for failure. What you whole straighter corps just got obliterated in the hanger? That's okay we secretly sent all the important people away on a secret mission that we never mentioned before. Your whole force was militarily annihilated to the point the Japanese Navy after Midway is looking absolutely lucky by comparison? No problem we have secret fleets squirreled away in every nook and cranny! The FO (if they kidnap their future pilots, too) could teach and indoctrinate them better - but they have to "grab what they could get". Plus, their "hunting grounds" are not that much populated with humans, and I have so far not seen non-humans in the FO armed forces. I do not think FO-pilots are bad, I just not sure if they are better than imperial.

Also here is a fun fact that most people don't know. Stormtroopers are neither clones or child soldiers kidnapped at birth. Every last stormtrooper, from the Coruscant Guard, to the Tatooine garrison, are all volunteers. The Empire didn't even have a draft, every trooper was recruited, and trained for service.

How Did the first order have enough ships to conquer every planet in a matter of a week? The Empire had 25,000 stardestroyers and 50 super star destroyers. Even then, the empire didn't have near the resources to control the entire 3.2 billion habitable worlds in the galaxy. You can't tell me the First Order even had 1/3 the troops, star fighters, and star destroyers the empire had. Not having the New Republic in the sequels was a lazy excuse to reuse the Empire vs. Rebellion story.

The Last Jedi feels its short like they focused on one topic which is help the Resistance escape this chase while Rise Of Skywalker was too rushed Kylo Ren found the Sith Finder and found Palpatine and his 10,000 Ships (thats what i heard) before 15 Minutes of the movie while Rey finding thr Sith Finder was too easy and the space battle at Exogol was too short and didnt show more detail in the battle like show an over look veiw of every ship fighting.

Some supposedly captured, others lost in battle, and after surrender, the rest dismantled. This is why the Empire can still hold SOME planets after Jakku, but be considered disarmed. Meanwhile though, it seems like Palpatine hid at least SOME away, per the new trailers.

Honestly I have to admit that the general plot of the new trilogy makes almost no sense, and considering what we've seen in the new trailers I'm pretty sure that I'm just going to be disappointed again. But at the same time showing off Imperial 1 class Star Destroyers and the giant Aqua Droid in the comics has made me unreasonably hopeful for former Seperatist elements to be in the movie. Who wouldn't love to see the CIS resurgent? If the First Order can do it why not the CIS? *coughs in Seperatist true believer *

The way the sequels have handled it is terrible, we’re basically back in the same place the OT was at. I think TJ had the most potential to be an interesting character in 8. The idea of in war there is money to be made on both sides and some people r just interested in surviving in the middle of the war not fight it. I really like how the republic was screwed over by demilitarization then the new republic made the same mistake and was also screwed over as a result, even though mon motha had been around for both these 2 eras. Sequel Trilogy rely too much on off screen stories(i.e. books & novels) to explain things in the movie. That's how I see it, at least. When I was still a small kid back in the 80's, watching the Original Trilogy, I understood the situation of the story. The novels at that time were mostly side stories, even in between Episodes. But take TFA, we don't know why Hosnian system became the New Republic central government. Or who the hell is the First Order and The Resistance. You have to read the novel to understand the situation of the galaxy at that time. That's why I like older movies(not just Star Wars alone). They would explain almost everything about what's going on in the story, without needing to look for outside source.

Great video :) ... I hate to be all doom and gloom about the fate of the star wars rebel alliance/resistance but ever since Luke, Han and Leia died i am kinda rooting for The First Order anyway! ... Seriously what is the point even resisting them at this stage? I think J.J. is trying too hard to save a story that already died after the removal of 3 crucial characters that gave this saga hope.

The sequels did a poor job of "scaling" the conflict. In the original trilogy, the Empire was everywhere, even Tatooine (the planet farthest from any bright center of the universe according to Luke). Lando has to explain to Han that he's kept his operation away from the Empire but lo and behold there they are again. The prequels showed for nearly two whole movies a galaxy largely at peace, despite small conflicts arising and trouble brewing. In the meantime, we get to see the Republic that's being fought for and what the stakes are. The sequels didn't do any of that, just two militias that can't stand each other having at it. The closest they got to scale was the Hosnian Prime scene (which still doesn't give a sense what's at stake) and the fleet of ships that arrives at Exegol (a lot of ships sort of appearing out of nowhere). Sure we can go to Canto Bight and try to judge the state of the galaxy from that, but from their apparent lack of zeal or distress, the New Republic was utterly nothing anyways and we shouldn't really care too much that it got blown up. Again, it just seems like two random militias just going at it with some collateral damage, one of which strangely is well funded for no apparent reason. Yes, the expanded universe is great for answering these questions but the story shouldn't be full of so many holes.

would have liked that the FO could have steam rolled over the scattered NR remnants like the ww2 germans but start to over extend themselves the NR get regrouped and fight a defensive hit and run war waiting for their midway like battle to turn the tide which could be a massive shipyard that could help solidify NO gains or replenish the NR fleet making less of the whole little guy vs big guy and into the clone wars as in 2 massive factions having a slug fest but of coarse hit and run still play apart after a while the NO get dwindled down and the NR makes a final push which is bloody but it looks like the war will be won but at what cost and what kind of dark side force bullshitery is put into play
