Scattered with no central command? So exactly what imperial intelligence thought about the rebels as expressed in andor? You’d think the former rebels that used the exact same tactic of appearing disjointed until it’s too late would be wise to the tactic being used against them

The former Rebels (Hera, Leia and Mon Mothma) are aware. Senator Ziono, who admitted to not being a part of the Rebel Alliance, is not. Based on the glance the two other senators made to each other when Hera called out Ziono about not taking part in the war, I think the same can be said about those two. The only reason Mon Mothma isn't siding with Hera is because she's trying to appear impartial to prevent the government of just making her another Palpatine. Why do you think she allowed the obvious fabrication of Leia approving the mission knowing full well that she hadn't.

The Imperial Remnant in Legends still had fully active fleets, major shipyards, multiple SSD scale warships and held significant territory. They were a legitimate threat, even when most of the Empire had fractured into Warlord States. Hell, in Legends, the Empire long outlives the Republic under a new Imperial Dynasty, descended from the Skywalker-Solo and Antilles families.

The other thing to keep in mind is that someone like senator Xiono would have been in his late teens or his 20's at the end of clone wars, he lived through the transition from a republic to a despotic totalitarian state, and if you look at history a majority of dictators end up replaced by a system no less despotic.

Something tells me, even if Hera had proof they would just cover it up, or imprison anyone whom threatens/won't drop the imperial remnant topic much like when the Jedi order during dookus youth they would cover up any sith findings and proof the Jedi found or imprison those that threatened their duluded mind of the sith being completely extinct. Perhaps I am wrong, but as Allen had said a lot of the new Republic don't want/afford another war, so there's no telling how far they would go to cover up any evidence or continue the illusion that there's no more Empire so yeah I see this similar to "Jedi orders arrogance"when the Jedi refused to believe that any remnant of sith had actually survived, instead of investigating as Galadriell had made Gandalf to make sure Sauron was destroyed as everyone in middle earth believed he was.

Let me start by saying that this is far and away the best SW channel on the internet. Thank you so much for doing what you do. Then let me urge you (and everyone) to actually read Fukuyama, or listen to any interview he's given in the last 30 years. End of History's reputation is rooted in media misrepresentation a generation old that has been perpetuated by people who want to decry an idea that he never actually put forth. All based entirely on the title and a few contemporary reviewers who did not understand what he was saying. I'd particularly recommend "The Origins of Political Order" and "Political Order & Decay", as well as the recent interview he gave a few weeks ago on the podcast "The Rest is Politics: Leading". He never said we were at the end of history, yet that idea amounts to almost his entire mainstream reputation. And I can hardly blame you for running with such a well-established narrative, and don't hold it against you personally in the least. But, the man deserves better.

Does he have any easily articulatable points that you could give as sample summary examples? Because being told "oh just go away and read these two books" without even a hint of how they differ from existing ideas about them sounds like a lot of homework for no guarantee of a reward.
@FancyHatProductions
@FancyHatProductions Жыл бұрын
@@Capt.Thunder Do I have a one-sentence sound bite that makes my point clearly and articulately? No. But here's this, taken from an auto-generated transcript of the interview he gave on Leading, which aired July 9, 2023: Alastair Campbell: Now, Frank, I I don't do an interview when I'm being interviewed rather than interviewing as we are now, I don't do an interview of longer than five minutes without the interview. I did one this morning with a Belgian newspaper without the interviewer saying at some point. “Now, I really must ask you about your role in the lead up to the Iraq War” And then, and I go into autopilot. And so I feel your equivalent Rory mentioned in the introduction is your book and this phrase, The End of History, and Rory mentioned Hagel and I believe the phrase was, was originally his. Francis Fukuyama: Yes. AC: So what, what did you, first of all, what did you mean? Secondly, has it surprised you the extent to which you have become so attached to this one phrase? And what has that whole process kind of taught you both about yourself and about the world? FF: Well, OK, so just to to turn the autopilot on *all laugh*, so what was the end of history? You know, history with a capital h you would probably describe in other terms as modernization or development today. And the question is, is there a progressive evolution of societies over very long periods of time that leads to certain forms of institutions? And my answer to that back then and today is yes that I do think that there is a coherent process of modernization. And I think people that don't believe that should go live in Guatemala or Myanmar or some other, you know, very poor chaotic country. That doesn't have, you know, the advantages and opportunities that Britain or the United States or Canada, many other countries offer. So that's the basic meaning of history. And then the end of history is where does that process look like it's headed? And for many decades, the Marxists said it's headed towards communism and there will be a higher form of civilization that will displace, you know, what they call bourgeois, a democracy tied to capitalism. And my argument was, I don't see that higher stage. I, I don't see a preferable form of government and I think right now the only rival, right, that seems plausible is China, which is definitely authoritarian, it's quasi capitalist, but they've certainly been very good at providing stability and growth. But is that actually going to displace, you know, the Democratic model? I have my doubts about that, but I'm open to the possibilities. Rory Stewart: Frank, can I come in just to reinforce Alistair's question? And Alistair of course, often makes jokes at his own expense that his obituary is going to have the word Tony Blair in the title and probably Iraq in the first line. And you achieved extraordinary fame in your late thirties, I guess you were sort of 37 38 when the first article at the end of history came out and it's still something that literally I can stand up in almost any the audience in the world mention you in this book and everybody's heard of it. What does it mean for someone's life to be, as it were, defined in your late thirties? And you're now talking to us when you're 70. What, what, what's the psychological experience of this? FF: Well, look, I've learned to get over the, the frustrations that a long time ago, when I post something on social media or elsewhere, I almost never read the comments because inevitably somebody's gonna say, “oh Mr end of History, you know, what about this? What about that?” And, you know, it's been going on for more than 30 years. And so I, you know, who needs it? You know, I do think in terms of my subsequent career, it's been actually a great boon because, you know, it got me a good academic position. I could write, you know, so I've written a total of 10 books. Now. I actually think that the two volume series I did on Political Order was really my effort to rewrite the end of history with much more knowledge about the world than, than I had when I was in my thirties. And, you know, I made some corrections. And I think that, you know, most people on Twitter have not worked their way through those 1000 pages. *laugs* But I think that, you know, in terms of the, you know, the more elite perceptions of what I stood for, that may count for more than the meme that's out there. AC: But in terms of how you explained it and defined it and how you were defining it at the time, you've kind of not been proven wrong. FF: I don't believe I have because I think if you take a long term view of historical progress, you do get these setbacks and, and, and recessions. I mean, you think about what happened in the 19 thirties, collapse of democracy in Germany was a much bigger development than anything that's happened in the last 10 years. And then the world managed to recover. And even, you know, in the sixties and seventies, you had military coups all over the developing world, all over Latin America and that got reversed. So I just think that you can't make these big judgments based on the experience of the last 10 years.

@@FancyHatProductions I appreciate you taking the time, thank you. It was interesting. I do find it funny that it's Tony Blair's spin doctor and one of the cringiest Blairite members of the Tory party who are doing the interview. That said, I've read quite a lot of different authors, including the Elite Theorists, and I think that Fukuyama's take is still rather flawed from what he describes it as here. The reason why liberal democracies established themselves throughout the world is not because they're a better or more effective system, it's because the current world hegemon (the USA) wants it that way and has a massive amount of both soft and hard power influence, which it exercises regularly. To quote Henry Kissenger: "To be an enemy of the USA is dangerous, but to be an ally of the USA is fatal." The incentive structure is to appease the hegemon. Those that don't wish to play along are rallying around Russia and China in a bid to build a counter-network that is resilient to USA pressure, with so far only limited success. Western liberal democracy, as we have it, has been around for barely 100 years at this point in its current form (i.e. with universal suffrage), and in most countries around the world it has been around for noticeably less than that (nor do they have as robust institutions as we do, although you could argue that our institutions are also better at hiding their corruption). We've barely begun this liberal experiment, so it's quite laughable to suggest that this is the system that is the indisputable default, especially when he attributes it to the system's merit. I mean, have you seen the absolute joke-like state of western democracies these days? I'm not convinced it's working very well at all.

The biggest problem with the New Republic is that they are *politicians*. Politicians who are more concerned with maintaining their own status instead of actually *listening* to their advisors. You know, the ones who got their positions by actually being proficient in their profession. You do not hire an electrician and put them into a role as a dentist! It's too damn easy for them to dismiss the writing on the wall because they are *comfortable* as politicians and the perks that come with it. Including the arrogance. I'm sorry. But when a expert on the practice of war, who has fought her life in the defense of something better than a totalitarian regime has a terrible feeling about an outside threat, (or even an inside threat) *I* will *listen* to her, not turn her into a galactic "meter maid". The problem with the map is that in that condition you need expert and time to obtain some data otherwise is just an old piece of junk and regarding the scan, i think that Xiono and the other Senators will have found other reason to dismiss them, frankly the entire hearing give the vibe of an old italian saying: non ci stà peggior sordo di chi non vuole sentire there is no worse deaf of somebody that don't want to hear

@@Capt.Thunder the fact that there is a spy in the senate is not for Hera to not say anything but for the senators to use their braincell as it's a sign among many that things are fishy enough to warrant an investigation. There is no map, the map is gone the artifact is just some fancy junk that had millenia thanks to Baylan lightsaber, sure Hera can say that's a map but at this stage is just her words as there is no way to confirm this. Regarding showing the scan of the wing, ok what you are showing that someone that you don't know had created a ring that had go somewhere as they don't have a damn mean to trace them hell even the hyperspace lane that they have used are so difficult to get that only the Purgill can access it unless you have the map and the mean to use it. @@Lobsterwithinternet The issue is that in a democracy everyone who gets power (politicians) are people who greatly desire power. Most people who want power don't want it for noble reasons. Most want the power to feel superior to others. Even those who may go into it at the beginning with high ideals will have to compromise and make deals with compromised people. Power also has its own tendency to corrupt. Over time corruption tends to fester and grow until the whole system is consumed by it, and it breaks down into authoritarianism and dictatorship. Now what you want may exist in the theory of a Constitutional Monarchy, where there are elected representatives but ultimately the Monarch must give assent to anything and is the commander in chief of the armed forces.

"From a certain point of view" is certainly a theme in SW. Though despite their differing roles, there should still be some commonality in their shared goal of keeping their New Republic safe from potential ruin. Constant vigilance. Adapt or die. Mothma wanted to forgive and move on in peace, however as we had seen, not all of the "Former" Imperials shared in that ideal. Sending a scout - it would've been proactive to investigate, but may have tipped off any enemy to an impending assault. Sending a task force - would have been proactive to investigate *and* deal with any problem they encountered.

It is literally like the empire waa the first form of a final boss with the remnant and the First Order being the second and third, each time the new republic thought they had defeated the enemy, not watching carefully and got bitten in the butt. The fundamental condition to winning a war is removing an enemy's capacity and/or willingness to fight, and the republic politicians could not get the job done. It takes an armada of civilians sick of Palpatine's shit to truly, finally win.

I get what you mean. I remember the scene where Carson brings up Moff Gideon and then gets shot down by the claim that he was an individual actor. It reminded me that we as the audience where the only ones who had seen his meeting with the other faction members, and him requesting. support. Story of reminded me about just how much of a bird's eye view the audience has had. Now I still think that a lot of the new republic officials are being a little naive. Gideon was maintaining a Star Destroyer and had a major factory operation (the one Dinjarin, Cara Dune and the ex-Imperial blue up). Not to mention his people got the coordinates to extract him from custody, and this after he faked his first death. The thing is, Gideon's is dead, a lot of the New Republic, are probably thinking, here is someone who could have brought order the Imperial Remnant but thank God he picked a fight with the Mandalorian and got himself killed. It can be easy to assume that with him gone, everything that propped him up is gone as well. Hell, a lot of popular media like to treat things like this. The whole trope of the Bid Bad, is centered around the idea that if you take out this one guy all his resources will disappear into the ether. The Mexican government, DEA for the longest time promoted the Kingpin strategy for dealing with the drug cartels, the idea that if we took out the head of these super cartels, then the organization would just be destroyed, without even considering that all its members wouldn't just retire, and as smaller but still dangerous groups could still easily reform and keep doing the exact same thing. It is easy to convince yourself that if you take out this one problem you solve all the systemic issues propping it up disappear, or that a series of related events are indications of a systemic problem but an outlier. Especially, sense the latter case is true, confirmation bias is a dangerous thing, human are great at seeing patterns that don't exist. That is probably why is so hard for them to buy into things individuals like Hera say. Because while they might happen to be right, they are also bias. Part of her reason for being so sure that Thrawn is coming back is because of how much his actions, traumatized her during the war. Even Mon Mothma calls Hera out on pretending like she does not have a personal stake in this.

I still hate the concept of "Operation Cinder" as lazy storytelling. The far more interesting storyline was that in Legends. The instantaneous power vacuum brought on by the deaths of Vader and Palpatine following the abolishment of the galactic senate, left only fleet admirals and moffs with any authority. They immediately started fighting each other over power and resources. It's actually crazy how quickly the Empire could have descended into anarchy while the New Republic picked off their fleets and planets one at a time.

My only problem with your defense of the senator is that you forgot to put in the balance what Hera asked.... she asked for a task force to find out the answers to the senators had questions about. She didn't ask for mobilization or 5 fleet! Just a task force to investigate. I hear and agree with what you argument about hindsight, check and balance and doubting echo chambers. However, I do believe that a decorated general, a war hero, who comes to warn you of a possible great threat deserve at least a scouting party to help assesa if the threat is real! The way the senator framed her asking for ressources as a way to bolster her image/agenda irks me a lot. So I understand the arguments you are bringing in these few videos about the subject and I agree with them. However ignoring a threat without taking action to valid/invalid intel is a serious flaw of procedure and a lack of prepardness. I adore your vids, great work on your part as always

yep, in the end she accomplished the mission with the Ghost (her personal ubertricked ship that frankly make any imperial pilot not called Darth Vader in dire need of their brown pants) and 4 X-wing...i understand that resource are thin but 4 men and 4 starfighter to follow a lead to a warcriminal that escaped with the help of force wielder mercenaries, expecially after the event on Mandalore and the scandal in Corellia it's not that much. Sure the argument in defense of Xiono and the Republic behaviour are sound and vey belieavable but frankly the 'good' senator vibe is someone that want starve a possible rival of both resources and potential news appeareance. Because while Hera is a military revolutionary leader, she is also a very famous one with close connection with many republic leaders and she is the daughter of Star Wars version of Che Guevara (only much more succesfull), the day she decide to become a politician she can pick her senate seat and many like Xiono fear that

First, just let me say that like so many people here, I absolutely love your content. You give a lot of thought to these things, and it shows. That said, there's a couple of points on this one that I think bear mentioning.. First... the general populace is often a lot more perceptive than politicians realize. You bring up Colin Powell and Iraqi WMDs, something that happened when you were 11 or 12... at the time, not only was the UN itself through the IAEA saying Iraq had no WMDs, but the American intelligence community was telling the President that, too. Powell knew he was lying as a result of Cheney telling the IC what cherry-picked conclusions needed to go into the official reports, and plenty of regular people were able to see what was going on, too. Hans Blixt, the UN chief inspector in Iraq, was openly saying there were no WMDs, and Saddam Hussein was _complying_ with US inspection demands. That's why in the end, Bush demanded he prove he had no WMDs, knowing it's impossible to prove a negative, and actually started the attack before the 72-hr deadline was up. And plenty of us watched it play out live, and were calling our Congresspeople to yelll at them. Again: the general populace pays more attention than pols think. The second thing is something @Thisgraincharacter mentions: If there are scattered, disorganized elements of the Imperial Fleet out there... you have to hunt them to ground. There's just no excuse for the Defense Council not doing that, and unfortunately, that's a thing Leia should know. They may be disorganized and scattered now, but the more time you give them, the more likely they are to get organized. That's what people do: they connect with others who have similar goals and agendas. And that's something every successful politician understands. It's also something Hera should have pointed out. Between that, and neither Hera nor Carson presenting the scans and telemetry of the massive hyperspace ring even though multiple astromechs could have corroborated one another's readings (including telemetry of its departure heading, showing it wasn't going someplace within the galaxy), the court-martial scene, as much as I loved Chopper's outburst, fell a little flat for me. The New Republic government is clearly plagued with people who just want to put their heads in the sand, and Imperial loyalists doing everything they can to help them do it, on a very real level, there's an unforgivable failure of leadership here, including Mon Mothma. She may not want a strong central government, but until the last pockets of the imperial war machine are destroyed, she needs it to be stronger than _this._

These senators live in a galaxy where some humanoids have fish-heads, some have three eyes (both types present at these senate meetings,) a galaxy that is known to have giant Zillow beasts and Rancors and Banthas, etc., and then, add the fact that the Purrgil were witnessed by thousands if not millions of citizens on the planet of Lothal. Also, the citizens and senate should know the truth about the existence of Jedi considering it was only 30 or so years ago when thousands of Jedi, who, as it was also known, could do "impossible" things while they protected the galaxy. Whether or not the senators in question believe the Jedi guilty of a coup attempt or not, they know they existed. All these bizarre, "unbelievable" elements, from a Earth human point of view, is fanciful indeed, but in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, it's ridiculous for a galactic senator to not believe in the idea of "space whales" that were witnessed by so many people and even acknowledged as the co-liberators of Lothal. Basically, Senator Xiono's questioning rant about "things that they should believe," is absolutely ridiculous. This rant proves that either he is completely out of touch with the galaxy, completely incompetent, scared out of his mind, or a supporter of the Imperial Remnant. No matter which way you slice it, this senator is nearly as dangerous a threat to the New Republic as Grand Admiral Thrawn is. Gather all the clues together and you end up winning the game. And remember, a clue is a clue regardless of how believable it is. Context is often the key and experience counts.

@@Lobsterwithinternet fair enough, but Senator Xiono lives in a galaxy that has more varied lifeforms and planetary civilizations, religions, species with abilities that are extremely unique from others, that, as a competent senator, Xiono has to realize this fact about the galaxy. And since he is a galactic senator, it's not like he's confined to his home planet like so many others in the galaxy are. There are citizens in the galaxy on republic member planets that have never been to space and have little real idea of what else is out there, but not a galactic senator. For Xiono to be that narrowminded of a Galactic Republic Senator, and further, on the defense council is dangerous and/or ridiculous. Perhaps he genuinely doesn't believe there is a threat, but to blanket deny the existence of possibilities has to be an indication of one of three things, 1. fear 2. stupidity 3. treasonous intent. All that being said, I can believe a person like Senator Xiono to exist in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. After all, unfortunately, authority figures like him have existed throughout Earth's human history.
