I heard once that approximately 3% of the egg layers had been destroyed, but egg prices have doubled. That to me is just plain price gouging.

There is no such things as prices gouging. If the a good is priced to high the consumer will quit buying and that will drop the price. If the price of eggs didn't go way up stores would run out of eggs. Having higher prices will cut demand down.

I can’t agree with you more! I live in Ohio ( right now 16” of snow) it’s colder than normal even into the negatives. I also feed corn to my chickens. I did my research and bought cold hardy breeds. My first year of chickens I did not and when it got cold. Those poor birds that are hardier in the warmer temperatures suffered and some even died. I learn all the time about chickens. Today I learned that they can have whole corn. Ty for that. For those who aren’t aware how viruses work there is always a new variant. Each time any virus comes in contact with a host it changes and therefore it creates a new variant.( that’s a simple way of saying it. So please don’t let that phrase scare you. ❤

There are several more issues leading to immunocompromised chickens. GMO feed being a big one. Hormones and the broad use of antibiotics as a preventative. Messing with nature usually doesn’t end well. Getting friendly with government agencies isn’t the answer either. The USDA and FDA HINDERS the small, local farmer in more ways than you can imagine. They routinely go after small farmers who sell their perfectly safe food locally.

When our son was 1, he was given DQ ice cream for the first time. Broke out in hives within 15 seconds. We found out he was highly allergic to the pasteurization process of milk. He could only drink and eat dairy made from/with raw milk. Thank the Lord! we had a close friend with a dairy cow.

Six older chickens, one egg a day. Time for young chickens in the spring. They are getting corn, worms and regular feed and a warm home. God bless y'all and keep warm! Would it not be better to quarantine and see what survives and can beat the virus????? Isn't that what Mother Nature does, survival of the fit? I agree with you. Things have gone too far.I have 3 chickens that I raised in a bird cage in the house until it was warm enough for them to go outside. We built their coop and run.The city has regulations about the size,, height, and sq. footage of the run and coop. We had to get a permit and pay to have our facilities inspected. My chickens give me eggs that I can't afford, because the prices are just so high. Eggs are six dollars a dozen.The law will only allow me to have 3 chickens where I live. They used to be illegal.Some cities don't allow any chickens at all. I can't own a rooster. Free-ranging chickens is also not allowed. My neighbors have eggs because of my chickens too. I know they are not sick because I see them three times a day. I love my chickens. God bless you for speaking the truth.

Do the commercial farms pasteurize their eggs before sending them to the grocery stores? Pasteurization is suppose to kill bacteria and viruses, am I wrong?

I'm not sure you can pasteurize an egg without hard boiling it - it has to hit an internal temperature high enough to kill bacteria, and that would probably mean cooking it in essence.

@ in researching pasteurization of eggs, yes they are pasteurized both in shell and out of shell before being sold to the public. The pasteurization only kills bacteria not viruses. Another reason eggs are pasteurized is to extent the shelf life of the egg.

Purchasing eggs is not a staple at these prices. There are eggs here and many near shelf life end. There is no dairy here. We had dairy but it is gone to big corporate farms in states with big money. The homestead trend to milk a cow will motivate them to squash that out. If I google map satte😅 the big farms of my youth, gone are the family home. They want the land to build the 40 acre lawn for the three story billions dollar home. You would be hard pressed to find pastures of my youth
