So I guess we don’t remember contracts like Hosmer, cronenworth, Boegarts. Now let’s sign another high price guy for a lot of years, oh yeah he’s also 31 yrs old.

People dont understand how this team Is draggin terrible contracts, Hosmer, Darvish, Bogarts, Cronenworth
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
The Padres have an excellent chance of signing Blake Snell, but only if he is willing to accept 1.5 million a year because that's all the Padres can afford now. I think teams are deathly afraid of signing him and ending up with a Financial disaster on their hands for 5 years. The guy wins a Cy Young and then goes another four or five years of play pitching only decent at best until he wins another Cy Young. Does that mean another 4 years of below average pitching? That's what teams are afraid of.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
You are on point with your first thought of people not remembering. Unfortunately too many fans have no clue of how hamstrung this team is with money because of those stupid long-term 300 + million dollar contracts.
@Wolfpack207710 ай бұрын
Snell probably wants to go with a contender as well (not just the money) so Angels are out.

If we get Snell we would have to go get Gary Sanchez I believe snell had an ERA bellow 2.00 with Sanchez and an almost 4.00 with other catchers
@tygrunge10 ай бұрын
That's my concern. Snell found his dude and if we kept Sanchez would have been worth it to sign Snell. They are inseparable imo

Sanchez signed with the Brewers
@tygrunge10 ай бұрын
If we were going to go after Blake this year, would of wanted a pairing of Sanchez as the two were the best team in the MLB. Not having Gary to call tbe game for blake could be a detriment. I would still be down to have Blake for 1 or 2 more years, max.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
One or two years as just an average pitcher worthy of being a number 4 starter but being paid as an ace. I'll pass on him 100% unless he's paid as a number four starter.
@tygrunge10 ай бұрын
@@mike-vq8zw just am average pitcher? Who said he's going to be average. I'm just saying I don't think he'll win a CY Young. If he's on the Padres, he's our #1 SP

At this late in the game, San Diego would be best fit any other team. He might have a rough year with the adjustment. As he already proved with us on in his first year.

New York will eat him alive
@mike-vq8zw9 ай бұрын
The Padres aren't going to spend that kind of money even if it is a reduced price it will still be more than the Padres are willing to pay. The Padres are DONE spending big money. They're not interested in anyone who wants more than 2 million a season regardless of the position he plays.
@jayv760410 ай бұрын
Yankees are being used for leverage. There is no market for Snell. GMs are not allowed to say they are not interested in a particular free agent PER collective bargaining. If Yankees sign him, they would need to pay 40 million in luxary tax in addition to what he signs. I would not want Snell. Traditionally a slow starter. They added a few more seconds to the pitch clock. It would not be a good year for him. The only place that would pay 30 mil is Angels.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
I can't see New York fans having patience for Snell. A few Rocky games in a row early in the season and he'll be the new Ed Whitson of the Yankees. If you're not familiar with old Eddie, he also left the Padres as a free agent and took the big money in New York. The last time anyone saw him in New York he was running red lights trying to get away from angry fans trying to catch him😅. It's true, look it up.

You are looking wayyyyy too hard into this.... The thing is Snell wants a certain amount and no one is meeting it. The Yankees offered an amount and for some reason he is not taking it. I have no faith in him coming back to SD. He would have already.

Snell being a creature of habit will suffer 100% this season. I could see him come back just out of comfortability factor.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
It doesn't matter the Padres simply don't have the money to even give him 15 million let alone 30. The highest they would probably go would be 7 or 8 million. They're broke!!!
@WetBanditBaits10 ай бұрын
@mike-vq8zw agree I more would see him returning on a discount basis and make it known he available to trade if padres slip. Defer the 15 million if need be to make it work maybe
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
@@WetBanditBaits I don't think the Padres would even defer the money. I don't think they want to take on any more big salary because they are stuck with so much down the road already. They just simply gave too much to too few players instead of spreading it out and making a STRONG lineup throughout. One or two players on 10 year contracts was enough but they extended it too far and now can't even afford to pay the going rate on outfielders even if it is just for one year. It's sad, AJ was given all that money to spend and he blew it.
@tonysu886010 ай бұрын
If the Yankees are being used for leverage, it's been happening since... Forever. I can't remember any year in the last 20 that teams have been used for leverage but if a team really wants the player, they'll figure out a way to get it done. So, no matter what is being said about the Soto trade and the Yankees "giving up too much" that's really not true. The Yankees got an opportunity to bring in one of the most talented hitters if not the #1 overall hitter in OBA, hits and slugging in exchange for only one possibly ready starter (only a half a season experience as a starter) 3 promising arms but not yet ready for the Bigs and a backup catcher. That's almost a handful of beans for the pot of gold. A bean could grow into "the" Beanstalk, but that remains to be seen.
@tonysu886010 ай бұрын
I suspect that the market for Blake Snell is reluctant because recently Snell doesn't pitch beyond 5 innings. Don't know if that's just Padres policy or if it's Snell's capability or some combination or other reason but based on his recent seasons in San Diego, you need a strong bullpen to win games. Snell has gone far enough into games to go directly to the Closer or even the Setup man. Snell's still valuable, he'll reliably handle the first 2 times through the order and a lot of pitchers can't do that.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
Snell has always been a 5 inning pitcher capable of blowing up any point from the fourth inning on. Runs against him usually come fast with home runs and that's always been his history even with Tampa Bay.

Snell is overrated. It will take a dumb team to pay him. my money is on The Angels.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
He is completely overrated, and unless a team has a deep effective bullpen it will end up being a disaster for whoever signs him. When you think of a two-time Cy Young Award winner, his history of pitching doesn't match. Whoever signs him will regret it if it's for 5 years. The Padres can't afford him at any price, they can't even afford an outfielder making more than 2 million. AJ is going to sit back and dumpster dive if his prospects don't cut it.
@jamesyoung11679 ай бұрын
He has 2 Cy Young’s He was great last year ! I hope he Re-Signs with The Padres !
@mike-vq8zw9 ай бұрын
So he has two Good Seasons in 10 years. What about the other 8 years. He wants at least a 5-year contract again and if he stays consistent you're going to get one good season out of him in those five years. He wants 200 million or so, you would pay that kind of money to most likely get one good season out of him? You think he can repeat last season again this season? Leaving all those Runners on base again? Not to mention he is a five inning pitcher and I don't see a five inning pitcher as an ace or worth that kind of money. Especially when it comes to the Padres who consistently have at least three of their five starters who also aren't going to pitch past five innings. Once again the bullpen would be dead by the All-Star break. He only fits in with a team with a strong bullpen and at least three starters that consistently go deep into a game, giving most of the bullpen a break. Unfortunately that's not the Padre rotation and hasn't been for years. Teams are afraid to give him a long-term contract BECAUSE of his history. The Padres especially with so much long-term money on the line already, couldn't afford to be burned by a long-term Snell contract. Few teams could and that's one big reason why he is still available. He is just not your typical two-time Cy Young winner. It's very deceiving.
@mike-vq8zw9 ай бұрын
Also, keep in mind, his age is a huge Factor along with his inconsistency.
@mike-vq8zw9 ай бұрын
@nf_100 I think the Yankees have the best shot at him because they have the money to waste in case it doesn't work out. By taking our left fielder off our hands and making other trades and signing Marcus Stroman it looks like the Yankees might be really going for it this season especially since the rest of their division seems a little weaker than usual. True, he may not get the numbers he wants both in dollars and years but I don't see any way possible, not even for

In 10 years though how many of his young players have ever accomplished anything either for the Padres or any other team they were traded to. He is overrated in every facet of the game except spending money.
@mike-vq8zw10 ай бұрын
Because Gary Sanchez wanted more than 2 million a year. The position doesn't matter, it's the money. They aren't going to pay anyone more than 2 million a year no matter what position they play.
@tonygallegos616410 ай бұрын
Who cares if they sign snell, this franchise is going nowhere. They don't have the money to compete, so they should quit talking like people will care for this team, it will be just a minor league team and within two years the attendance will drop to under a million. Until we get new owners why even waste our time with baseball. Baseballs economic structure makes it not worth watching, everyone knows the Dodgers will win the division, and should win the world series with the amount of money they can spend. Baseball is dead in San diego, go blow your sunshine up someone else's behind.
