Personally I believe one of the main reason why her first album was so big is because her management was still riding the fifth harmony wave. Her breakup from fifth harmony was so dramatized and talked about in the media that people just had to look and listen to what she was doing now as a solo artist. Her first album did have quite a few really catchy song but her dramatic leave from 5h definitely caused her album to get so much hype and attention.

Also the breakup was so unexpected and dramatized and people couldn’t help but watch it as it all unfolded. But that’s just my opinion.

While I understand that people make mistakes, racism is a very big mistake, as it is difficult for people to forgive racist actions/statements. The problem is that she was a new upcoming artist and these allegations decided to show up. Cardi B has said plenty of racist shit and yet she barely receives repercussions. This has almost nothing to do with gender, but everything to do with how famous a celebrity is. The more famous you are, the less consequences you will face. A prime example would be of the R. Kelly pedophilia case, where there was so much evidence against him yet it wasn't until now that people really acted on the evidence (better now than never I guess, he deserves to rot in Hell). Edit: Forgot to mention: She is getting what she deserves, but I wish that celebrities more famous than her would receive such consequences or even worse depending on how far they went. Edit 2: I am a big Camila stan but even I am not deluded into completely defending her every move, especially her mistakes. Seeing things like this is disappointing, and a betrayal to her fans.

She wasn’t accused of calling Normani the N word she DID do it!
@bossbabyfuyuhiko66575 жыл бұрын
Not even just normani but she called all of the members the n word (which doesn't make sense). She also had a blog dedicated to being racist. And one year her fans were attacking normani and all the bandmates wrote long letters to the fans to stop attacking her, while camila wrote something quick and vague. Why did the rest of fifth harmony check HER fans.
@sifyh.95615 жыл бұрын
Camila never called Normani, or anybody else she knew in real life, the n-word. Those screenshots you saw? They were proven to be fake. She tweeted on her old stan account, calling Obama and George Washington her "n-words" (she meant it in a positive way, she didn't quite get what the n-word meant or she wouldn't have been using it for a white person if she truly was racist), and she reblogged some insensitive and offensive jokes on her old tumblr. Those things are real. The Normani thing is fake, the girls who created those screenshots came out and said so. I'm all for holding people accountable but we have to understand that Camila wasn't racist, she just didn't understand what she was talking about or dealing with. She was a 15 and it's quite clear she didn't hate black people (as even in the stan account tweet she praises Obama, a black man), she just didn't understand how offensive and hurtful those jokes could be. We need to get off our high horses and forgive her, especially since she's already apologized for it for years now, and raised awareness for POC issues. I mean, let's not act like none of us ever made fun of south east Asians for their different eyes and the languages they spoke. Let's not act like we never pulled our eyes back to imitate being east Asian. Let's not act like all of that wasn't racist and we didn't do those things when we were younger and dumber. Let's not be hypocrites.

@@sifyh.9561 That "the dms are fake" bullshit has been proven to be fake as well. Also, camila has never denied that those dms were fake, and owned up to it. Yet y'all defend her. And "she was a kid" is bullshit too because she was FIFTEEN! That wasn't that long ago, as camila is only 22. And that means she was still a racist while in the band (because she joined 5th harmony at 16). Who knows how she was treating the girls behind doors? And what do you have to say for when she didn't defend her fans from racially attacking Normani? Because you can't use the "she was a kid" excuse then. She had countless of post and evidence, this is more than some dumb joke. Numerous of offensive jokes, and not just on tumblr, but on other social media as well. You can't change overnight, that's a product of years and years of racist upbringing. And "she didnt realize how offensive it was", DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? This is america! By 15, you know what slurs are. She's from miami with a big population of black. SHES NOT STUPID. In order to find all those racist jokes funny, she has to understand the jokes. Meaning she understands how offensive it was. Why do you guys defend this bland and boring person? Her niceness that y'all praise is only a PR stunt, just like her fake ass relationship.

I think the problem boils down to bad PR : 1. The relationship w shawn was great for Señorita but it was timed so poorly everyone speculated it was just a stunt plus the rumours regarding shawns sexuality. 2. The album is BORING and the singles are too. Liar was not a bad choice for a single but poorly timed and tbh as soon as i listened to it I noticed the Karma similarities. However pop music is basically a recycling bin of old sampled melodies and beats so I let it slide. Immediately came Shameless and Easy which were...ok? There is nothing new to them. We have seen Camila do great ballads but these songs had nothing original going for them. And the whole album has this problem. It’s a corny muddy mess of cheesy lyrics with no track exploring the darker sides of love and attraction, etc. Sonically they arent too different either. It also tries very hard to sound sincere and it just feels fake. Like the romance stunt. 3. The era itself had a very rushed artistic vision that did nothing to improve on the adapted material. Inspiration is great but if you don’t build on it...the project will seem dated. And this is what happened. 4. Never addressing the feud with normani until it was too late. Camila is very easy to target on twitter bc of all these allegations of racism as well as being seemingly unaware of her poor dancing abilities. When compared with normani and framed as the aggressor, she becomes the perfect target for bandwagon hate.

We all know when Camila get's it right, she's onto one of the biggest smashes of the year! but.. Romance was a hard listen for me, the falsetto on alot of the songs was a little uncomfortable on my ears. I don't think it suited her tone or brought out her strengths. I still see her more in her element in Spanish vibes and working with producers looking to push the boundaries within that genre. I like Camila has a human, i think she doesn't have those artistry abilities like Taylor and Lana have to build strong concepts, songwriting and melodies in an entire embodiment of work. I think time can help but it doesn't come naturally for Camila so i hope on the third album she realizes its very important for her to surround herself with people that know how to work her strengths :)

I can personally tell that she put effort into these songs so that's why i like this album. The thing is that the promo is very weird. She is performing liar,easy, living proof, shameless and my oh my all in once in different shows and i think thats pretty bad. She should have put her first single( my oh my in my opinion) in 2020 bc people are sick of her and the reason is Señiorita. She should promo that song and then drop the album after 2-3 months to hype the fans and then drop a promotional song like shameless and then after 4-5 months the next single for example liar and it should continue like that. Now it's just a mess. Many songs were released before the album and many people were disappointed bc we only heard 4-5 new songs in the album. The rest of them were already known and performed so it wasn't that exciting for the fans. Anyway she's really talented i hope the label treat her better

Thank you for your refreshing approach in your videos. I can feel a genuine interest in investigating the diverse factors and reasons. A flop can mean a drop in sales, and it seems like this is a recurring pattern for a lot of artists. But at the same time a commercial flop does not mean that a creation is a flop. I think the real measure is not commercial, but spiritual, and only the artist can feel whether they were genuine and honest with their art or not. Creating based on what others want, results in losing touch with our soul, purpose and mission AND THAT IS A FLOP. Seems like a lot of people just love criticising what artists and creators create because they cannot create original content. So what is a flop, really? It is purely a matter of perception!!! Anyway, I am not a fan, I was sharing my general point of view. But I love the song Living Proof.

That's a very interesting perspective, thank you for sharing! Wow! I've never thought of it like that! And thank you for watching, it's very interesting to uncover external factors that affect a record cycle. People focus on "the music is bad" or "the music is good" but I honestly think other things such as poor promotion, bad single choices and / or controversy very much impact a record a lot more than one's own opinion of the music.

@@popdissected4400 Yes, and I think it is also about a time in the artist's life when there are personal struggles, relationship issues, management changes, a disillusionment with the fame culture, when the intial high from being famous is wearing out, so they have to dig deeper for true happiness and contentment. It is very interesting that I discover similar patterns in my own life although I am not famous - thank God. After several socially, financially successful years I have "flop years" recently, but the spiritual growth in my inner world is immense. I feel a new wave of more successful years are coming, even in worldly terms. So all this feels very similar to this rollercoaster ups and downs cycles of many artists. It’s not pr but yeah the constant pap pictures is just bringing more hate and affecting the music. I dont know if their team just let the overexposure happen thinking it was gonna help, or the fact neither of them cooks so they go out to eat or have breakfast ( and we cant expect them to stay locked in their room because they are famous, and they deserve to do couple things instead of hide all the time like taylor and joe who we have literally only seen together like 3 times from going from events to the car). But yeah, the overexposure is making ppl think is pr which is not, and bringing more hate to them, and sadly ppl will only realize with time . I just hope her team figures something out to make the hate stop

@@wendyl0v3 oh come on! They're grown adults, they can cook well enough to feed themselves! And if they didn't, there is such a thing as room service. Or take out. Which your personal assistant can be sent to collect. Laying aside all that, everyone knows celebrities call the paparazzi on themselves and this "relationship" was cooked up to promote their duet. It worked, clearly, so now they're dragging it out for the tweens. And the rest of us have to endure it. Joe Alwyn is an obvious beard, but at least he and Taylor Swift are subtle about it, and that's obviously a vastly different situation to just, thirsting for publicity. I root for Taylor to be able to live more authentically (and yearn for the day Pop Dissected can openly discuss those themes in Reputation). Camila and Shawn though, I'm on the fence about.

@robertl.26765 жыл бұрын
I think due to her playing the SAME cards she did with “Camila” that people lost interest, whenever an artist tries to use the same formula on an album, the album suffers. She should not have included Senorita, being as Shawn used it to hype his album, if she released a different first single (I.E. My Oh My, Cry For Me, First Man, either a bop or a ballad, to catch the listeners attention.) in December not November, Senorita should’ve died out. Her idea for listing was alright, but I think that she could’ve done better, like the slower songs put first to build up to the more catchy up-beat songs, since she wanted to make you feel the album. The videos could’ve been better as well, the looks were good but the Liar video shouldn’t have cut the song off in parts, it was also not too fitting for the song, I get she was a literal liar in the video, but her dying when she speaks the truth is a bit dramatic. Shameless video was alright, I didn’t care for Living Proof’s video, it wasn’t suiting for the song In my opinion.

She should not have gotten into a clearly fake relationship with a boy who is obviously in the closet, and then proceed to release an album with like sooo many co-writers about her "authentic" feelings of love. Thank you for watching! And yes, I think maybe she might have tried to capitalize on the success of "Senorita" and it just backfired because the song was too powerful to compete with - with her OWN music. It sucks, but there should have been some foresight. And speaking of Katy, I think that's why her own "Birthday" didn't do as well as it could have. It released while "Dark Horse" was still huge, and the song had to compete against another one that was much more recognized.

I also think the album is mediocre. It's not bad at all, she sounds great, production is mostly good and the lyrics are not bad either...but it's just too lackluster. There's no flavor to most of the songs. They all sound the same, and it's not a good sound...there's nothing that stands out besides shameless, this love and maybe my oh my. But the only song I REALLY REALLY like is shameless. It's such a shame (no pun intended) for her to downfall this bad cause I do think she's talented but this entire era & album felt rushed and i feel like she just took advantage of señorita's success and thought the album & the singles were going to be as succesful if she released it at that moment so she rushed everything. I get that every artist in the music industry wants to sell, but that should not be the priority and sadly I think Camila's priority in her entire career is to sell and that's it. And look how it went: really bad. She just should've waited until next year or maybe until she was artistically in a good place to give us the best she could offer, cause I'm SURE this isn't the best she can offer.

Living Proof and Easy aren’t official singles they were released as Promo singles to promote the album.. For the Romance era she only has 3 official singles released Liar and Shameless. Which was released together. Señorita was the first official single for her album and also a single from Shawn Mendes deluxe edition. Havana was a huge hit but it also wasn’t her debut single either she had released a few songs prior like OMG, Crying In The Club, Havana also took some time to work its way up it was was released 5 months I believe before going number 1. I think why this era isn’t working is the whole sophomore slum sure but she has a very confused image many ppl say she comes off a bit arrogant and full of her self which I mean having a huge hit can do that to you. Her music and sound isn’t very original either I gotta say. She’s good but there’s a dozen of great female artists right there where she is as well.

Very good points you bring up! And, Señorita, while appearing on her own record, is not officially the lead single off the record. It in fact is "Liar". But, I think she should have just made it her lead single if she was going to include it on her own album as well. Missed opportunity.

Pop Dissected I totally agree. It’s a missed opportunity. She also mimics or copies the artists you talked about. Also vocally she was NOT the strongest in fifth harmony but she had the “it factor” and also the youngest I think out of all of them. I feel execs saw that and pushed solo career just cause they felt she was more likable at that time and “safe” When the other girls actually were more talented but didn’t have the confidence it seemed at the time. I believe over time ppl got tired of her. Her departure and silence toward her past group members is also a factor...and and the whole “relationship” with Shawn Mendes as well.

I will always say this: SONGS CAN SOUND THE SAME WITHOUT THE INTENTION OF COPYING ANY. Many people can easily call other artists' song as similar to another and the others will already conclude that it is true. It will spread like wildfire and many will believe it. I just don't understand how easy people do that. Music is wide, large and various songs have the same beat and melody. It cannot be avoided considering the fact that, even though not intentionally, many take inspiration from different songs to different genres, either from the past or the present. Artists write their own songs, yes, but the influence from the past will always be a factor in it and some just coincidentally sound the same. It doesn't mean that it is already copied or plagiarized. Same with the album art or the concept. The things they are accusing her are pure childish and very shallow. Those concepts have been around for ages and the artists who have used them don't own them. They were also inspired by past works. It saddens me how these people from different fandoms pull the other artists down. It is unfair and it needs to stop. Camila is a talented artist, a story-teller, a composer. She deserves all the praise, love and support. The industry is just so toxic.
@lailaguled8425 жыл бұрын
Raphael Garcia I agree that some of these concepts have been used before and that may not be considered plagiarism. However the Halsey situation is pretty damning. We’re talking everything from merch to multiple uses of artwork. Halsey introduced singles using tarot cards for her era. Camila did the same. One of Camila’s live performances for living proof had dancers in floral blending with the background just weeks after Halsey did the same thing with her graveyard Spotify video. Halsey’s graphic designer has already called out Camila’s and her team and may be on his way to calling for legal action. This industry can be toxic but this may be the clearest case of plagiarism I’ve seen yet.

I have never before in my life thought (or even cared) about singles / promotional releases, and how the campaign surrounding the music affects it, and that whole thing of when to release, why, how, that's so interesting, I don't actually understand it or get it yet, but it's another face of the music industry that's actually very important and I'm learning to care and pay attention to it. As for the album itself, I actually loved it. I've found it diverse, engaging and with a particular texture that I can't define, it sound big and bold, and the tracklist pretty much flows seamlessly (not without its bumps).

Idk the album just seemed super rushed and the sound isn't really relatable. It's too cheesy for my taste I mean, Taylor swift sings a whole bunch of songs about love and romance, but it's still relatable -- people like it cause the sound is relevant yet evolving. Romance just sounds like she's in her own "shawn mendes bubble" and people are tired of it, i mean we see them making out everywhere and that doesn't help make the album more interesting cause people are already like: "we get it, you're super in love with shawn". It gets boring. The mystery is what sort of sells the songs. It just lacks originality I guess, or maybe I just expected more since she hyped up the album so much. I wish her all the best tho, I hope she finds herself again. I really loved her first album! "All these years" was my favorite.
@miajames36515 жыл бұрын
And who to blame? Roger Gold, aka Camila's manager. I'll tell you EXACTLY why we should be blaming him rather than putting the blame on Camila's shoulder: 1) His team allowed a leak of two songs before 2 weeks of the official release of the album. Viewers knew what to expect from this type of era due to the leak that had happened, including the song "First Man". He's the manager, he's supposed to be the responsible one, not only for camila, but for the whole team. Any leak that happens is 100% Roger's fault along with his team. 2) Roger has been posting the FULL performances of Camila as well as the songs on Instagram rather than giving snippets for people, because YT streams plays a huge role in receiving awards and getting good promotion too. 3) Poor promotion for the whole album. I can guarantee you that they fully depended on this "shawmila" relationship (which I find fake af) in order to get views. They thought this relationship would help in getting the listeners + viewers attention, but oh god how wrong they were. The list goes on. They should've waited till the rise of senorita would end, this just destroyed them. Half of the blame goes to the relationship as well. People (including me) are tired of hearing their relationship whenever she describes one of her songs from this album. She has been including him in every god damn interview, and honestly it's getting out of hands. He has been doing the same too, every q&a he has to include Camila's name in every answer just to fit the narrative of being in real "love". Take Taylor Swift as an example, she did write few songs about her partner, yet, have you ever seen her talking about their relationship 24/7? Absolutely not! Why? Because they're being PRIVATE, and that's something shawmila lacks from. They're giving their fans the content that THEY need, but not the content the rest of the world has to see. Moreover, they're thinking inside the circle, not the outer side. Instead of releasing songs that circles around the singer itself, it's now isolating TWO people, and that's just not it. We wanna hear Camila's music, not about her relationship. And not to forget this point: Camila has been lying about this album for ages. During the era of her 2017 album, "CAMILA", she would describe the album by saying "in real love" or in a "real relationship" yet for this album, she's repeating the same thing and denying what she said from the past! For example, she said that the album "Romance" talks about being in a real relationship "for the first time", but wait.... didn't she say the same thing about "CAMILA"? She's confusing the viewers and giving more than one interpretation which is very hard to some people to be able to understand. Romance flopped because of many things, including her relationship. While in "CAMILA", she was RAW, she was real, most importantly, she didn't fully depend on a relationship with anyone just to get the promotion off of it.

I know this is an old video, but I am Camila fan and I’ve been wondering when she will release new music. So I decided to come back to re-watch this video to see what was wrong with the “Romance” Era My thoughts are that her label relied on the fact that Camilla released two singles at the same time once before “OMG” and “Havana” and figured that one of the songs would skyrocket or at least semi-sky rocket like Havana did. In my opinion, you can’t always rely on the same thing to work all the time. Also, I think that “Liar” and “Shameless” are great songs. But, to be honest they don’t exactly sound like big singles, And “Liar” didn’t sound like a good first single because there was too many songs that sounded like it at the time. I think Camilla should’ve released “My Oh My” as the lead single since it features DaBaby and he was getting really popular at the time. Then, she should’ve released “Living Proof”as it was a unique sounding song and people sometimes lean towards songs that sound different. Also, she could’ve waited until Valentine’s Day to release the album “Romance” so the title could tile along with the day. Let the success of the album grow, and then release more singles.
@lexbryann15855 жыл бұрын
Idk I feel like there’s a disconnect with the new album. Cause all the singles were thrown in our face along with Shawn mendes romance which is what the whole album is about and it feels like there was this whole length of time inbetween that we are missing between albums.
