When I worked at my buddies speed shop, we would receive tires that were up to an inch off on circumference. Same spec tire, set it side by side and you could clearly see one tire was taller. So we would do our best to make pairs.

When you want your vehicle tires to be nearly perfectly round, and who doesn't, the tires have to be "MATCHED" to the wheels they will be used on. This is a very accurate grinding process that is slow and labor intensive done with some now expensive equipment. If you are running tires at very high speeds, this process is mandatory!!! Have you ever noticed that Michelin tires do not have the "normal" knubs on the tread from the injection mold? That is because they are 'matched" to a standard at the factory, this additional step done by a low volume tire manufacture could double the price of the racing tires.
