17:08 Hassan "of the Hundred Faces" was one of the nineteen people to hold the legendary Persian title "Old Man of the Mountain". Given to te leaders of the Hashishin (origin of the word Assassin). They were a religious sect of Ismaili Shi'a Muslims (from the Nizari lineage) originating in Persia, during the eleventh century C.E. This secret society was known to specialize in terrorizing the Crusaders, against whom they fearlessly executed political assassinations they are seen as the first assassin sect in the world some even say the only "real" assassin sect in the world.

The anime actually cuts out a lot information around ryuunosuke (caster's master) so heres some stuff about him from the original light novel: His ancestors in the mid 1800s were Mages but at some point his family forgot about Magecraft and stopped practising it. However the people in his bloodline still have dormant magic circuits, which is why ryuunosuke is eligible to be a Master. Ryuunosuke found a book his ancestors left behind in his parents storage shed. It has information about the occult and demon summoning through human sacrifice which piqued his interest. It also had information about the Holy Grail but because that wasn't about murder he didn't read in properly which is why he didn't realise the incantation hes using is for Servant summoning not Demon summoning. The book likely means ryuunosuke's ancestors had intended to participate in the 2nd holy grail war in the 1860s but if they did is unknown. Ryuunosuke's first victim was his own younger sister who he killed in his parents storage shed 5 years ago. Her body was never found and it is still hidden in said shed, visiting her body to get back in touch with his "roots" was why he returned to the shed in the first place when he found the book. He has killed 29 other people in the 5 years since killing his sister and leaving home. He only ever killed one person in every town in Japan he visited which is why his crimes aren't more known. Most of the Victims are still just missing person cases. Following finding the book he killed 3 other children in his attempts to summon demons, the first time hes killed multiple people in one city in such a short time frame which is why the News has now got wind of his serial killings. These previous attempts failed because there wasn't enough blood for the circle so this time he killed a whole family. When a relic isn't used in a summoning the Grail chooses a Servant that matches the Master's personality which is why Bluebeard is just as deranged as Ryuunosuke. edit: the blood used for the circle is also sorta considered the equivalent to a relic in this case.

You probably know by now... Yes it's Thorkell, been recommending this show to you since your early Vinland Saga reactions just because it has Thorkells VA in it lol. Hope you continue the series up to Fate Unlimited Blade Works and Fate Heaven's Feel, this is the main Fate series along with Fate/Zero. There are also some interesting spin offs like Fate Apocrypha and Fate Grand Order.

the assassin servant is hassan of the hundred personas. the hassans were the worlds first recorded assassin organization they operated in the middle east and were an islamic cult. they dont ever bring this up or explain the character at all in the show which is the only reason im telling you here. no spoilers
